Red Carpet Manicure

Thanks to the advice here, I purchased the RCM starter kit and have done 2 manis so far. The first lasted about a week before I started getting some lifting at the base on a few nails; maybe this one will last a bit longer! It is 2 coats of Red Carpet Reddy + 1 coat Award Winning (picked up on clearance for $2.50!). In some lighting the gold on top makes the color a bit orange looking for my taste, but otherwise it's an ok layering combo. I would have never picked up Red Carpet Reddy on its own, but I was surprised at how nice it looked--probably not the best red for my skin tone, but not bad either. I wish I had a true burgundy to try, but looking at the RCM swatches I couldn't really find one--anyone have any burgundy SOG recs? I was thinking possibly Gelish Black Cherry Berry or ACG Fab.

Definitely need to work on my technique a bit--capping the ends gives me trouble, and on my thumbs I got too close to the base of the cuticle. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with how it looks considering I don't even really have much experience painting with regular polish! [It would never last more than a day with the way I treat my hands so I never bothered.]
I always get lots of complements when I wear gelish My Forbidden Love. It' s very nice burgundy with a shimmer to it. Your mani looks nice. I also wear colors with the gel polishes that I never dreamed I'd wear before.

Try Lechat Red Bird. It's more of a burgundy red. I love it and it is perfect for the holidays with IBD Moroccan Spice glitter on top!

I never got manicures and rarely did my own nails because they never lasted, however I loved how beautiful polished nails looked. After reading through this forum I bought the RCM pro starter kit at Ulta. Am in love and totally addicted (I did have a few Gelish manis at a salon but too pricey). Have never gone more than 10 days because I keep changing colors. Just want to say thanks for all the great tips and encourage anyone who is considering DIY gel polish to try it. If I can do it, anyone can!
Colors I've tried
RCM- red carpet ready, haute couture, plum up the volume. I have my favorite designer but haven't used it yet.
Gelish- glamour queen
No problem using gelish with RCM system.

Gelish and rcm are, basically, the same product. Just different packaging and target market. Most of their colors are dupes. So they will work together very well. You can also use other brands of gel polish colors with your rcm base and top coat products. Enjoy your beautiful new addiction and...:welcome2:

I've just done my second Christmas manicure as I really didn't like the one I did earlier.

This time around I've used RCM Glitz and Glamourous and sponged on IBD Moroccan Spice. I'm really happy how they turned out!!

Just did a holiday mani, 2 coats of RCM Thank You, Thank you, 1 coat Gelish Water Field. So lovely. Thank you, thank you is a deep red with purple undertones. Water field adds some nice holiday sparkle. I love layering these polishes. Also realized that I had a $5.00 off coupon from Ulta that was a going to expire today. Dashed off to the store and picked up Draped in Rubies to try next week. Happy Holidays to all.

On further inspection, thank you, thank you is probably more purple with a good dose of deep red. The purple is more apparent in outdoor light. I also did a quick pedi with RCM My Favorite Designer. Still very sheer after 3 coats but nice. No one sees my feet in winter so I'll just leave it on until...

I was at Fred Meyer today and they have select RCM 'discontinued' colors for 50% off. I picked up Midnight Affair (my Fred Meyer's has been picked over for quite some time but they had a lot of colors on sale!) Wonder if they're getting new colors or just getting rid of things since most brands have huge sections of 'last chance' stickers! Hope someone else can benefit ; )

I picked up (another) An Evening to Remember, Show Me The Money, & Tangerine On The Rocks for .99 each at Ulta yesterday. YMMV.

Wow that's such a great deal! Are the sale colors normally where the RCM display is? I tried looking a while back when they had the sale on draped in rubies and an evening to remember and could not find it...but then again my ulta has low stock on everything in general..

Never with the display, my Ulta has a section for clearance items.
