Yay my Pro kit came in today!!! Did my first Mani with it can't wait to try all my other colors;) Pics are "Midnight Affair" with "A Night To Remember" as accent nail.
Good job! I can see that you tried to keep a margin between the polish and your skin. I still sometimes have a hard time with that. Probably from so many years of wearing acrylics and always wanting to have it as close to the skin as possible. Now I realize a margin is better, but I really have to focus in order to do it. You did very well.

Thank you. After watching my Nail tech for years and reading all the posts on here and looking at all the pics you guys have posted on here I really tried to keep a lil margin and remembered to cap the edges;). Thanks to you guys and all your wonderful tips us diy newbies have several references!

Bummed I missed Draped in Rubies on ulta.com I did pick up An evening to remember. In fact I got two ............just in case I found someone who purchased 2 Draped in Rubies and might want to trade one :search: They have it on red carpet manicure but full price and shipping is expensive! Don't know if I want it that bad. Wish I had an Ulta close by.

Where do you live? Aren't you in the bay area also? I live in Brentwood and if you want I can check my Ulta again to see if they still have Draped in Rubies. Yesterday they still had a few when I picked mine up.

I got two of each w/ the intent of giving one set away for Xmas... but I love them so much I'm holding on to them!!! :graucho:

Just a quick question. I have been using Gelish for over a year now, using a UV Lamp to cure. I have been looking into LED lamps and plan to get the Gelish 18G.

But when I saw Ulta had a sale on the RCM kit for $59.99 + a free bottle of color, I decided to give that a try instead.

I got the kit today and instead of a black RCM lamp, I received a white Gelish one? Is that normal? The box didn't look tampered with.

I used the kit tonight and it worked great, 30/45 second cures and no problems. I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen?

They are the same. The gelish brand is interchangeable with rcm, the colors are dupes, the lights are the same except for the color of the casing. The only difference is that they are aimed at 2 different markets. gelish toward the professional and therefore available at Sally's, rcm to the public and available at ulta.

I have heard this but I wasn't sure if it was a rumor or true. Good to know.

The gelish light worked great so no complaints. In fact, I am thinking I might just skip the Gelish 18g for a while, this one did so well. So nice to be able to cure black polish in 45 seconds instead of 3 minutes.

How long do you guys here typically get from a red carpet mani. And when it's time to change it has it just grown up or chipped or anything?

I am on my 3rd time using it and this time reached day 11 with it absolutely perfect despite cleaning out 3 fish tanks and scrubbing the decorations. Now day 12 it has slightly lifted again on the same two fingers as before on my dominant hand. Around the cuticle area at the bottom.

Am I expecting too much for it to last longer than that without starting to wear? My left hand is totally perfect still.

If you are doing heavy housework with your hands staying wet for long periods of time, it is wise to wear rubber gloves. Soaking SOGs in water can cause lifting.

The other thing that comes to mind is prep of the nail before application. Some people have lifting if all the cuticle is not removed from the nail. It is also very important to clean the nail very well (really scrubbing it) with alcohol (or the equivalent nail dehydrator for your brand of SOG). Any oil or dampness left on the nail can cause lifting. Some people have a few "problem nails" that consistently have the same problem of lifting or chipping. If all else fails you can use a small amount of "bonder" just in the problem area. Bonder can make removal of SOGs very diffcult so it is best to use it only in problem areas.

Everybody is different .... some people are luckier than others. Lots of people get less than 12 pretty regularly while some lucky girls can get 3 weeks. Not me. I can often go a full 2 weeks, but most usually get in the 9-12 days range when I get a finger or two that starts to lift. And if I had been scrubbing fish tanks it would be closer to 9. ;) I hardly ever get chips tho.

It looks like you are leaving a nice neat margin, so I can't think of any obvious reason why you'd get the same lifting at the cuticle side except that maybe you just have more left behind on those fingers that you're not fully getting off before your mani.
