Quota Bag Thread

Hi Genepi,
Which city are you in? As I am not a VIP at all, I spent less in Canada for non quota bag items than in Paris as Paris stores do have more items I am looking for (EXCEPT appointment/bags LOL).
But my connection is actually through my dear mom who had been a loyal Hermes customer since I was born, so, thanks to her, I am able to spend a certain amount and grab a bag. The special bags are limited to 2 per year per person as you mentioned, So, I manage to get them either through my own account or through my husband etc. But all through the same SA.
But here in Paris, spending does not actually help.... I have no idea why.... makes me feel like Hermes shopping in Paris is so much harder than in my home country as far as quota bags. So, I am glad all the items I got here are still items I enjoy and will buy even if I don't get any appointments. I refuse to buy anything that I don't absolutely like, so, I do wonder....maybe I am not buying from the categories they want? maybe i have to buy things I hate but they have to sell like a horse saddle even though I have no horses? hee hee.
I think all the cities are 1 quota bag per year in Canada so you were very lucky! :)

Hi,
In western Canada quota bags are B/K and C and are limited to ONE bag per year not 2 like the US. In theory you can buy 3 non-quota bags per year but in reality I have not been that lucky! In 4 years I have only been able to get 2 quota bags and 2 non-quota bags. If I purchased furniture then I could get an offer but I really don't want or need a 150K sofa I have kids and a dog. My family has horses in the states so I have more use for a saddle than a sofa! In the last year they have merged accounts at the same address into a family account to prevent you from getting a bag on your husbands account to avoid the 1 bag limit. As always with Hermes there are exceptions to the rule and you have a fantastic SA!

Hi Tpfers!
I posted this yesterday but due to the corruption that occurred yesterday, it got deleted. I think my question and situation is relevant and helpful to others reading the thread and also interesting to see other peoples experiences.

That being said- here is my question(s). For those that are seasoned special order goers, I wanted to get your experience post covid. If you picked up your SO bag during covid 2020-2022, and with the current US rumors of maybe limitone QB per client so that there are more to go around to others clients, what happens to all your spending you had been doing prior to getting the SO bag? Is your SA still letting you get a 2nd QB within the same calendar year? Or is she telling you that all your spending will go towards a QB for next year?

Curious what’s happening with others?

I haven’t asked my SA yet this question yet because I don’t want to seem ungrateful when I pick up my SO bag in a couple of weeks.

So wanted to obtain insight and experiences from others who have picked up an SO bag during COVID times.

thank you all as always for sharing your experiences !

Re the US, I’ve read on TPF recently:
1. Anything with a K in the name is considered QB; and, the opposite
2. A K pochette may be offered to regular clients in good standing, independent of QB (and sometimes at the same time)

My SA has told me
1. My K acquisition at FSH does not count towards my local QB (I actually spoke to him briefly bf accepting the FSH K25)
2. The QBs and other history are not yet in a worldwide data base
3. The QB is still two bags officially, but it remains to be seen whether supply chain and management will allow SAs to offer) (in other words, SA does not have full control over what happens)
4. This is also consistent with what I was told by my (new to me) FSH SA and an SA I spoke to in London,CP

I’ve decided not to worry about these inconsistencies, and that my local SA will let me know when something comes up that he thinks I will like (I have no precise wish list per week and my annual spend is at least 3X). At this point, I’m trying to get RTW that both DH and SA like for me lol

ETA: while I have a good relationship with my local SA, I’m not a VIP and I am relatively patient (I have a lot of QB already). I also accept that my preference for PHW in neutrals; as well as VIPs and long standing customers of the house; are factors that may push me further down the list (that’s just life lol)

@Genepi and lovely TPFers, does anyone in the United States know if husband and wife accounts are merged into one family account because of same address? My SA told me that as a couple, we could potentially get 4 b/k's a year together in the past. My husband only shopped one time with me in my local boutique. The rest of the purchases are under my name. Husband likes to shop when we are on vacation, but he will almost never go to our local boutique. If he wanted our vacation store (Hawaii or Vegas) to be his main store, would that affect my account with my local US boutique? Thanks in advance for any input! :)

You’ve read different things because it’s not a one size fits all answer. In the US, there isnt even a real ratio to work toward so the question becomes impossible to answer. When people say they are “spending 3:1 to get a bag offer” that’s just an indication of how competitive the market is these days; it does not mean that the store is waiting for individuals to hit 3:1 spend before offering.

In direct terms, will buying other non quota bags as part of a balanced profile help get one closer to a quota bag offer? Possibly. Is it as “helpful” to one’s profile as the same amount spent in other categories? Probably not. Could getting a coveted non quota bag (ie Constance, mini lindy, KP) hurt your chances for a near term quota bag offer? Possibly.

There is no equation, no set rules, and far too many intangible variables at play to give a blanket answer here.

Does all Hermes leather goods not count toward the pre-spending? Belts, shoes, small leather good (wallet, charms, etc), leather bracelet, and non quota leather bags? Does anyone know? Did my list miss anything? Thanks in advanced!

They all count toward pre-spend, it just that the SA get a lot less commission from those products. People who really want to make their SA's happy be buying fine jewelry and home goods as they have the highest commission rates, or sometimes people just don't want to buy a bunch of stuff and rather just hit the pre-spend with one product, that's easily achievable through fine jewelry.

Everything helps your profile. Though not all to the same degree. It’s all subjective per store, per country, per client, per relationship, per SA. There is no set “prespend goal” so working toward it is an unanswerable question. How long is a string?

SAs in the US will balk at this question and say there is no need to buy anything else to get a bag offer, they just don’t currently have any in stock.
Then it’s a dead end. Haha….

since in the US some customers really got their quota bags with low pre spend, maybe the rules don’t apply. Just be best buddies with the SA?

I think you hit one of the variables spot on. SAs will always have to check in with their SM whether they can sell a quota bag to anyone. But if they like you, they’ll definitely push for you, regardless, sometimes, of how much you pre-spend.

Just keep in mind, as others here have better explained, that there is no magic formula for getting a quota bag. There are an enormous amount of variables coming in to play (pre-spend, likability, availability of stock, professional relationship between a SA and the SM ; I‘ve even heard stories of people getting a quota bag early on but getting offered sizes or colors that were rejected by bigger spends, etc.).
