Thanks jjtt. The color is a brilliant emerald green which is not captured at all in the photos. I had a hard time being sure whether the color is natural. Last night, my husband set up the gemological microscope and we looked under intense magnification for signs of dye and there were none! Now I think it could use a repolish and a gold band around an area where two major stone fractures/lines are very close to each other and close to the edge. It is an example of a jade bangle with both the best quality and the worst quality in it. The stone lines are natural though, and it looks like it went through a tough, rough time in it's formation.
I am so happy for you!!!!!!!! You got such a great deal. How cool is that.

Regarding the decision to keep the green bangle or not, the question has come down to; would you accept the worst quality in order to also have the best quality? Hmmm, almost a philosophical question. I'm going to keep it because I love how extreme it is in both ways. It's got character, that's for sure.
A wise decision Clairejune. This bracelet deserves a fabulous owner like you that loves it and protects it. Jade are around so long but it is the lucky one that finds an owner like you.

Thanks Silver, I will love it and care for it. To me it's a metaphor for growing older as the body breaks down more and more, the spirit becomes more full, rich and mature. And beauty is rarely created without strain and hardship and endurance....

Good one Clairejune! There is beauty in imperfections.

When you put those band on it, it will be AWESOME. My brown bangle that I put the band on was not a very pretty piece. That is why I put the diamonds on it. Now it looks exceptional. Your piece is already exceptional and with the band it will last FOREVER. Wise jade to choose you.

You know what? I really do believe it chose me! Regarding the band, I see how gorgeous yours is with the band, and it makes me think I'd do it without any fractures. Yours is so beautiful and warm...and the white metal and diamonds are like a cool glass of water on a hot day next to the colors of the jadeite. I was thinking 18k yellow gold with an ancient gold look. I was wondering about stones. Here the question comes up again....should I put diamonds in this bangle which was inexpensive? They are the only thing that would be tough enough besides sapphire, which could also be nice. It would be a green and blue look which would match my sapphire engagement ring. I'm thinking little diamonds or sapphires placed in a swirly curves, like the peaks of sand dunes. Or, just gold?

I have an affection for diamonds so I would choose that. LOL I really love diamonds. I put them on everything. My brown jade bangle was not expensive too but now it looks much nicer. You will have to get a really good jeweler tho to do the job.

Claire, if you want it to look really antique you could have yellow gold without diamonds and then have the jeweler carve chinese pictures or flowers or characters in the gold. You could research some old chinese jewelry to get ideas. Cool! I saw some hinged bangles with really pretty carvings when I was younger.

Hey Silver Mom, thanks for that great idea. Hadn't crossed my mind and would never have thought of that. I'm going to google to find inspiration images. I also love diamonds, and how they enhance, but don't compete with other stones.

Desingningstyle, It is a lovely bangle. I don't know about how much it might be worth. Assuming it's grade A jade, maybe $700-$1800? I haven't bought any jade like that before. This is my best guess, but am no expert. If you really want to know, you could spend $80 and send it to GIA for basic jadeite evaluation. They will determine whether it's A, B, C, or B+C jadeite. This is an identification few jewelers-gemologists can make as it requires special equipment that large gem labs have. Then, with that info., take it to a jeweler who knows jade and its market for an appraisal of market value. Thank you so much for posting it. Do you wear it often?

Thank you for taking the time to look it over. I wear it a couple days a month. I very much like it. Thanks again.

I have another piece of Jade to share. Again, I do not know much about it. I purchased it at an auction outside of Philadelphia. It is a donut shaped piece of Jade surrounded by 58 diamonds and set in 18K white gold. I would love to know more about this pendant. If anyone has any information as to its origins, the value, or anything at all I would love to know. All, I know is that when I previewed it prior to the auction, I knew it had to be mine!

What are your thoughts?

Regarding the pendant above, the jade donut measures 5/8" in diameter. From the bottom of the bale of the pendant to the bottom of the pendant the overall measurement is 1 1/4". It makes quite a statement.

This piece I wear a couple times a week. I get a lot of comps on it every time I wear it!
