So does it mean that u may not see the "flies' wings" structure as much in old mine jade? I once had a chance to purchase one of those from a reputable store but i didnt buy it in the end cos the colour wasnt exactly what i was looking for.

Basically yes.

It's a common misconception that "old mine" = better quality. Not necessarily the case as you can still get very coarse looking old mine jades.

The old mine thing is tricky and I'm not sure that there is any definitive way of testing/knowing. I once saw some rather plain, grey bangles with tough/coarse texture and no translucence sell for $1500 in a shop because they were suppose to be old mine. I think sellers may take advantage of this and get more money for plain bangles. I would imagine that the safest way to get old mine is to buy an antique or vintage burmese bangle.

I also can't tell old mine just by looking, but gosh did it sound good! Such an incredibly high clear chime as compared to the other grade As. Appearance wise, that particular bangle was a dark spinach green, colour was quite even but not very translucent, and it had grains for sure. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Hm, that does sound interesting. Did the seller tell you it's an A grade? I would love to see it, sounds gorgeous!

That's what the store owner told me. I can't believe that I dream about it last night too...so I guess it is calling me to bring it home with me...lol:p I would definitely post a pic here tomorrow if he can give me a good price.

OMG, Ying Yu is totally dodgy! When I found out that the river jades are not nephrite, I asked if she sold any nephrite. She emailed me a snippy response that since she only sells bangles from China, of course she does't sell nephrite. She told me before that there is no more nephrite in China. I had to tell her that there IS nephrite in China which they are still mining, with new deposits found in rivers, (which is why her term 'river jade' is so misleading). Furthermore, that China imports lots of rough from British Columbia and other places for processing. Therefore, her excuse for selling non jade from China as the best she could get is exposed as a lie . This woman is either increadibly ignorant or a liar. She must think we are stupid or something. What is really annoying is her rude and snippy tone.

Glad you caught her and thanks for warning us about her ...so many tricky ones out there

Here is my bluish green/red jade bangle along with my red jade beaded bracelet.... I haven't post pic for a while...hope this work...

Here are more pictures of my bangles! Hope to see more of your's too. I have a terrible camera and these pictures really don't do anything to show the visual qualities of the bangles, so much so that they are almost unrecognizable! Oh well, you get the idea I hope....

Petals, oh that is gorgeous! What a rare color combination, and I love how you wear them all together. Will you tell me about the red and green bangle like when, where, why? So cool!

Thanks clairejune :) Luckily I have a local jade store that's close to home...it's only 10 mins away...haha...dunno if it really is a good thing for my wallet or not. I alwayz love usual jade colors, and this one really caught my eyes. I am still looking for a jade bangle that has more red in it...but oh well...3 patches will do for now. :p I bought this couple months ago for about 1800usd. It's from the store owner's old jade collection. She told me her family has alwayz been in the jade business...actually has been for 3 generations.

I am just so glad that I found this thread to share some of my collections...hope you all enjoy it as much as I do :)
