I may be wrong, but I think the value is determined more by the translucence and color saturation rather than the actual color itself. I have seen some green bangles (very beautiful n translucent) in stores which cost more than icy white ones. I guess it's more of a quality issue.

Thanks for all your helpful answers. It is a very interesting topic I reckon.

What do you mean by colour saturation?

I agree! Jade is determined by the translucent factor. In general, a rich imperial green colour with high translucency is most sought after. Icy jade and purple jade is also quite rare and expensive :)

But yes. Flawless, defect-free and translucency play the biggest factor in determining the quality of jade :)

I read somewhere that a Grade A piece with rich n even color is deemed more valuable. Not sure how true that is. But it can also be down to personal preference. Some pieces have diff colors which can be very pretty too.

I see. These days I notice people wearing lighter coloured jade bangles. Does anyone notice that too? Is that perhaps a fashion reason since the more intense colours are actually more valuable?

Thanks! Yes, I wear it daily. It hasn't left my arm since my mom put it on (probably bc it hurts like heck to put on even with soap). I would love a lavender one for the other arm but I can't take the pain lol

I personally find that lotion works better than soap. Get the thickest, most slippery lotion u can find and slather a lot of it on your entire hand before putting on the bangle. U can try that if u find a lavender bangle u like :smile1:

This thread is so interesting! Does anyone know where to buy good quality grade A bangle in Singapore? I am planning a trip there soon, and i hope to buy one there. Thanks!

I heard that Li Hong Jade is pretty reputable and that they sell only grade A jade. I made a trip there once but only bought an inexpensive souvenir piece. Their pieces are beautiful but can be expensive, especially the good quality ones. They have a store in Chinatown (Singapore). U can probably find the full address if u google it.

Hi BreadnGem, thanks for the tip. I googled and found the address. Definitely check it out when i'm there.

I must have gone through every post as they are so interesting. I just received my first translucent jadeite bangle last week. It was agony getting it on, and bruised my thumb quite badly, but I love it. These photo were taken at night and I'll see if I can get daylight one's tomorrow. It has a light green hue and when the light hits a certain way there's a moon glow , crystal, affect. The pictures don't do much for it as my camera's horrible but to be honest, I'm not use to the less translucent jadeite and looking at this I thought maybe is could be fluorite, but it has all the signs of real jadeite and was sold to me as such. Just hope I wasn't duped. Still love it either way.

Did it come with a certificate? I could be wrong, but from your pictures, it looks like nephrite.

Both jadeite and nephrite are considered "jade" in China - jadeite is known as "hard jade" whereas nephrite is "soft jade".
