Very helpful article! It hasn’t occurred to me to use a backpack, which will fit so much more, and be more comfy to carry. I’ve been leaving my Birkin and Kelly at home when I travel, and take a Chanel mini, which fits into my Longchamp shoulder tote. But it gets heavy and uncomfortable, once I throw in my toddlers toys, snacks, books, diaper, and whatnot.

Took my b35 once on a flight to Vegas, where the flight attendant insisted that I stuff my bag into the overhead cabin, instead of having it on the floor. Before I could figure out how to best do it, she just grabbed my Birkin, and shoved it in. I was mortified! My seat was the first row on the plane, so I couldn’t put it under the seat in front of me. It was business class too, where you’re supposed to get a bit more “service”. Ever since that incident I’ve never taken my hermes bag with me while flying.

Your article gave me hope. I’m now on a hunt to find a pretty looking, light weight and simple nylon backpack.

This! This is why I bring bags for my bags (and why I use the quilted MZ Wallace which are super lightweight and add a little padding).

Ladies, my husband is a State Farm agent. I have specifically asked him whether my handbag would be covered and he has assured me that yes, it's covered. The loss is subject to your deductible, however. Anywhere in the world, as it is your personal property, it's covered under your homeowners policy. Although, if the bag, plus contents was 12,000.00 to replace and your deductible is 10,000.00, you would only receive 2,000.

This is how I plan to travel Abg12, I used to travel with my LV 5 Hanger Garment Bag, but it's way too heavy when using at the airport. I want to purchase a LV Horizon 55 Roller for flights and add the painted stripe and "J!m" in the same color as the stripes in place of my initials. (more than likely a really bold yellow paint.. like the LV is bold enough.... lol) I know it superfluous, but I can't help myself. I am trying to pace myself to purchase it for my Birthday in August. How is it for you using this item ?
"J!m"
It is absolutely amazing. The way the Horizon is designed makes really good use of all the space. The wheels glide super smoothly you can probably push it with just one finger. The canvas is sturdy enough and overall the case looks really modern. Anything else I need at the airport like passport and wallet are easily accessible in my B.

Splendid. How does it fit in the over head compartment ?

I tend to take a more practical approach when traveling with my good bags.
Let’s continue the conversation here!

Great article! I nearly had an anxiety attack when I saw you climbing those rocks with your Birkin on your back (!!!) but I’m definitely on Team Backpack now after seeing that!

My go-to has always been an old Hermès Fourre Tout GM to carry my good bags hidden inside but I’m going to try your tip next time! Looking forward to reading more of your work :)

My B35 is my travel bag. I wear it openly at airports and have never thought to hide it. I love the bag and it’s so useful for travel and so much of its convenience is because it’s open tote easy to access my things like passport, etc when I need to. Can throw my sweater in there when I’m not wearing it. I’m not going to cover it with an ugly backpack that on top of being ugly is a pain to get into. The only time I put my bag in another bag is when it’s going through the security machine and once I’m on the plane to protect it. I use the Hermes bag cover and then put it in a large grocery type tote bag. Other than that I figure I own it and I’m flaunting it. I guess I’ve never thought of airports as more dangerous for theft as other places. And once I get to where I’m going I’m perfectly comfortable leaving it in my hotel room. I’ll use my other crossbody bags for sight seeing. I take the bag that’s appropriate for what I’m doing at the time. I really can’t understand rock climbing with a Birkin in a backpack. Just take the backpack as that’s what’s appropriate for that outing!

I agree... it seems so 'extra' but to each their own I guess...

Like @abg12 I travel with my Horizon 55 and whichever hermes bag I fancy as a personal item and use the dust bag when it goes in the scanner and when it goes in the overhead locker. I also pack a couple of other smaller crossbody bags for day to day sightseeing inside my case. I've never thought about putting my bags in the safe I always lock my bags in my case when I'm not in the room.
