Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

Does she think that the small pieces keep her looking young because they are what a younger woman starting a career would choose? She is way past the sell by date for that.
This is a good observation. She may think pieces like the ones Catherine was seen wearing at the Queen's and PP's funerals are matronly, and god forbid anyone call her matronly. Her Cartier watch and bracelet can be seen on countless young women in LA and she probably viewed them as a sign that she had "arrived".

Very interesting about Diana's jewelry. I guess when you marry the Prince of Wales there are expectations of having access to the jewelry box and later controlling it as Queen. The late Queen certainly was generous with Camilla, Catherine and Sophie. They have all worn lovely borrowed pieces.

Interestingly, KC3 has gifted his wife with quite a few outstanding pieces, such as her pearl choker that she wears on the regular. It would look like he really did not gift Diana much at all.
He was generous with Diana, but most of the things he bought for her seem to be smaller and more sentimental. A necklace, with gold charms engraved with the boys names. A charm bracelet with a tiny St Paul’s, Ballet slipper, boys names, ect, an eternity band, a black Pearl necklace with startlingly large black pearls, Diamond butterfly earrings.

Which, since she had access to the big guns from an early age, those sentimental pieces are filling the gap. Camilla had a lifetime of sentimental pieces, but didn’t have access to the big guns until they married

At the very least she should have worn a hat to cover that disgusting hair. Looks like she just rolled out of bed and forgot to brush her hair. How disrespectful to show up looking so unkempt for her first outing with the Queen.

Exactly! I was about to say the same thing. Not only was her hair messy, it looked greasy and filthy, probably used 10X amount of product. She'd have been better off washing it and starting over. When you're going to have a huge outing with Queen, wouldn't you spend a little more time than usual getting ready? I have to wonder if she not only ditched wearing a hat, but purposely showed up in long crappy hair. That was embarrassing.
Given that she was told to wear a hat for this trip with TQ, there had to be a certain amount of arrogance mixed with I'll do it my way for her appearance. I will mention once again, that in the documentary about the Royal Train, there is a split second of footage of MM debarking with her hair flying all around. There was no footage on the platform with her next to TQ when she was being greeted by the local dignitaries.

Considering that MM is an actress, did she did not realize that she was playing a role when she was invited to accompany TQ on a trip. When TQ went about her visits, she knew that there were certain expectations that her subjects had and she didn't disappoint them. The old Hollywood studio system operated the same way with actresses. They made sure that they were made up, hair done and dressed beautifully for appearances. Catherine understands this perfectly. Her look at the funeral of Prince Philip epitomized this and was really iconic. MM managed better at TQ's funeral than I would have expected. She actually looked as if she took styling advice and kept her hair under control.

Thanks and that makes perfect sense. This also sounds like jewelry for a younger woman.

Glad you see you posting again! Missed you!

This is sort of what I am thinking. She is more interested in accumulating actual money in the bank than jewelry. She figures that when she has the mega bucks, she will buy the bling she wants. Most of the pieces we have seen her wear are what I call junior or starter jewelry. Does she think that the small pieces keep her looking young because they are what a younger woman starting a career would choose? She is way past the sell by date for that.

Thank you! It’s nice to be back :hugs:

By her age she should have at least one or two statement pieces in rotation, especially since the blood diamond earrings seem to be shelved.

It’s entirely possible that she/they simply can’t afford it so she goes with borrowed and simple?

The two of them are still about getting whatever they can for free. She'll merch, borrow and take for free whatever she is given. As for the blood diamond earrings, I think they were either sold and/or broken down for the stones to be used in other eventual pieces or sold off. I think sold off is more likely. She made Harold sell the guns, so I suspect she sold the earrings. Cash is King!

The Wikipedia on Diana’s jewelry lists where the pieces are today, if known.

Her sons have more even if we’ve never seen it publicly.

That’s a good start, but a little limited. It also mixes the pieces Diana wore and the pieces she owned.

The blog dianasjewels.net is a lot more exhaustive, but tough to navigate. My favorite https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/ has photos and details of how pieces have been worn and who wore them, but Diana jewels seldom come up unless they’re currently being worn. Ditto for https://theadventurine.com/

The OG is, of course, the “Royal Jewels” book by Menkes with some details in “Diana Style” by McDowell

Butler and Wilson had a store in BH years ago. I went in there once with the DH and came out with a great brooch that has a military shield kind of look. I wore it on a navy blue blazer. Super quality costume.
I have lots of B&W Simon is such fun - I have the large crystal spiders , dancing couple and the skeleton - the latter was a fav of Michael Jackson’s too
