Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

I’ve had 3 kids in the last 4 years and am a few years younger than MM. I did wear high heels throughout, even as late as a couple of days before giving birth to each of my kiddos.

I also didn’t gain much weight DURING the pregnancies but then bloated and swelled immediately post partum.

It’s entirely possible MM wore high heels and squatted down and then looked super puffy after delivering Archie. But the weirdness of everything else surrounding the pregnancies and deliveries make them suspect. Who really knows what transpired? Wish I did!

A picture paints a thousand words. Again.
The thing is that the royal tour people have briefs for them and all the requirements are known well ahead of time. I can't believe that Meghan was not briefed as well. If this is her interpretation then it was a huge fail. For someone who studied international relations, she should have paid better attention. In some countries, wearing the wrong color garment or sending the wrong color flowers could be considered an insult.

I get the impression she thinks she’s the exception to silly old rules.

My local store (Waterstones) ordered 15 (still available half-price) as reported earlier in this thread.

I went in yesterday (bought Dana Thomas Gods and Kings: Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano- I know late to the party)

9 are in the window with promotional bumph (taking up half a window)

4 were on the half-price table

1 in the autobiography/biography section (where I went to look for my book - but it was under 'fashion')

That means, based on the evidence by my own eyes, so far they've sold 0 copies.

Oh no, I can't count, they must of sold 1.

Wasn't me!!!! :ok:

This is why I don't think it will happen. They will be invited, but I don't think her balls are that big that she will insist on attending. She was iced out at TQ's funeral, and that was before the show and book. How big would one's ego have to be to show up in spite of all that? And how could he look anyone in the eye? I guess we'll find out.

She wouldn’t miss it. Historic occasion, opportunity to cause drama/steal attention with photos going down in history books, wear jewels and an expensive outfit. She will do something to cause a scene.

The thought of the attention alone probably gives her a narc high.

And they need to show royal adjacency - for their next book, tv series etc.

Jewels? What jewels? That baby jewelry for an 8 year old? She could have a miscarriage of a non-existent baby? Slip and fall and sue? Find egg in the food? Toxic mold at Frog Cot due to a roof leak?

I was never attracted to Louboutin pumps, but used to have my fair share of Ferragamo high heels (and Chanel too). The last time I wore them, I still remember a beautiful pair of framboise Ferragamo pumps, I had almost to be carried by DH to the car after a party. TW and Kate wear heels almost the same way I wear flats, impressive.
Love Ferragamo shoes, had a gorgeous pair of heels which I gave to DD after my diagnosis of MS
Worked for Ferragamo while doing my degree and yup, hard not to buy their shoes!

On M's (and PoW) shoe habit whilst pregnant or not.

Ultimately, it's the lady's choice.

1. Pregnant in 4"+ heels, sets unrealistic expectations (no pun intended) for other mothers-to-be.
2. Pregnant or not, narrow, high heels have not been particularly fashionable for a while, I can't believe it wouldn't be more comfortable, fashionable and every bit as appropriately formal to wear a stacked, block, Louis, block, cuban, cone (other heels are available) rather than totter around in CL So Kates 120 and Aquazzura Purist 105.

However, I can see that M's slender ankles do look proportional in a fine high-heel. She is also much shorter than she claims. They are so dated, especially with a stuffy outfit, but they definitely suit her.

All I can say is, that if I were 5 + months pregnant and on walkabouts and guided tours, I'd be wearing loafers, rubber soles and sensible lace-ups - and hang the aesthetics.

I'm sure there are women who are very fit and can crouch in heels while pregnant. I wouldn't use that solely as an indicator of whether MM was pregnant or not.
I was attending dance classes until two weeks before DD was born, modified some exercises and my teacher kept a close eye so yup, crouching was not an issue but cannot remember doing much of it
No heels though

Unless one is not aware of the Harkles' saga, it's difficult to sympathize with them. More books and interviews they release, more people realize what they are and less sympathy they have imo. :girlsigh:

"I think they thought there would be a similar level of sympathy to that following the Oprah interview so I think they probably have been quite shocked.

"Americans in general are a sympathetic bunch and I am generalising when I say that and I think Harry and Meghan have enjoyed that level of sympathy that they perhaps weren't given in the UK.

"But I think they will have been shocked by some of the negative pushback, I don't think that was expected it at all.
