I really wish I had been on the forums and noticed they were planning to double the price last year, I would have taken it in then. I hate to pay $610 when the bag cost me $1900. I saw another thread that said the bags are sent to Leather Surgeons in Doylestown, PA which is where I'm assuming mine will go to since I took it to Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia, PA. Apparently they are contracted by Chanel and their website states "The Leather Surgeons are the gold standard" - Chanel Paris so I'm hoping they can work some magic. I will definitely post photos once it's returned. I was told 14-16 weeks.
Chanel seems to use different service providers in the US, but you should be OK with the Leather Surgeons. I had a bag cleaned by them in the past (I know because there was a tag with their name inside the pocket) and they did a great job. At the present time, I only have a metallic bag that needs minor service, but I want to make sure it goes to the right place. I saw a refurbished metallic bag done by another company that also provides service for Chanel, and I was not very impressed; the touch ups were done with a different metallic color.

A different color? Yikes! I don't blame you for making sure it goes to the right place. While browsing the forum yesterday, I did notice someone mention they had a great job done for metallics but I can't remember where or which thread. Maybe try a search. It may have been in NYC. Ugh! Sorry my memory is terrible.:shame:

The fee before the increase was $30 for replacement crystals/pearls. I see absolutely no reason to have costume jewelry restrung at Chanel when any competent jeweler can do this. I had some of my grandmother's costume necklaces restrung at a jeweler at a significantly lower cost.

Oh great, I just checked my earrings and necklace and saw that 1 small pearl on one of the earrings is missing (again!). Necklaces can be restrung at a jeweler, but to replace a pearl, I probably have no other choice but to do it via Chanel?

I just drop my Biarritz at NM (I did not purchase there and they did not ask anything)
They just emailed me for replacement eyelet (ring), grommet and 1 button (all missing) $195
Replace strap $195 (one strap has rips) I'm still thinking . Are these reasonable price?

There are bead shops that you can get pearls (and stones) from. I'd do an online search to find the size and color that you need before taking it to Chanel and paying what is now a very high price for those. Some stores are online only, and some have a physical store. Usually the people who work there are really nice & will help you to find what you seek. :)

Thanks Tutu :smooch:, I just saw your post now (there's something wrong with my quoting notifications ). I'll do a search online. I had one little pearl replaced last year (for $30), after 1 wear now another one is missing. Current price for replacing 1 tiny little pearl is $80 (or was it $110?). Ridiculous really.

Hi,
Just purchased a pre-owned chanel jumbo single flap lambskin. The bag is really in a dreadful state. Discolouration and color transfer all over the bag. The straps thread is loosening. The corner are rubbed off. The hole (that's where the chain goes) is coming off. Is it possible to get it repaired?

that sounds terrible... did you know it was going to be in that kind of a state before you purchased it?

Hello, I just picked up my Chanel GST from Neiman Marcus last night and, sadly, I'm not happy with the results. They replaced the grommets although they are still sticking out away from the bag which concerns me. The cleaning was not worth the money paid, there's still traces of dirt and some dog hair inside the pockets and the leather is no longer shiny like it was when I dropped it off 7 weeks ago. I sent an email to the SA who I've been working with as she wasn't there last night when I picked it up but I'm not sure there's anything that can be done. Unfortunately, I didn't take a before pic but here's the after if anyone is interested. I can say it's not a big improvement, certainly not worth the money I paid.

I really hope they can do something with the dents. If not, I may be forced to purchase a new GST and try to take better care of it in the future.

My poor GST was looking so sad and then when the grommets started poking through the caviar, I just couldn't stand to look at it anymore. I was really hoping they could get all of the dents and wrinkles out but the SA didn't seem too confident. She said they would call me in a few days to discuss what can/cannot be done so if they say they can't get the dents out, I may just ask for a cleaning and repair of the grommets for $420 instead.

It is pretty bent up now from shoving it under airplane seats and the grommets were all poking through the caviar. I decided on a total refurb but I've asked them to keep the original lining since it's not that bad and it's black. I just hope she comes back looking new.

I just wanted to get an idea of what your bag may have looked like as there was no photo. So I'm guessing it had the typical GST slouch plus a bit more, since you say it was shoved under airplane seats, plus the SA didn't feel too confident about them being able to get out all of the dents and wrinkles. When they called you back after you took it in, did they say what they could and could not do? Can you show a close up photo which shows the grommets sticking out? When you said initially they were poking through the caviar, did you mean they were making a hole in the caviar?

It had the same slouch as shown in the current photo but they stiffened it up a tiny bit. I was told that they probably wouldn't be able to fix that so that's not the issue. My main concern is that the caviar is not shiny like it was when I brought it in. It looks like they dyed it which was never discussed. I just wanted the bag cleaned. Unfortunately, I don't have the bag with me at the moment but the grommets had pushed through the original holes in the caviar so they were hanging, no longer attached. Now it looks as though the replacements are loose, they are not closed all the way down into the leather. I'm not happy at all with the work that was done. Now I'm starting to think I should have just put that money toward a new bag. :nogood:
