Preference for LV made in France/USA/Spain...??

I haven't bought any LV bags this year, but bought some last year that were made in the US. They were leather tags. Although the place it was made shouldn't matter, using cloth tags instead of leather tags is disappointing for LV. Would rather them just stamp made in the US where it usually has made in France

Do you think Louis Vuitton uses clothe tags to save money? Are you that naive? The bags have x8 markup ... It makes no difference in profit what these tags are made of... Don't create drama for no reason please!

Nope I was wrong! I hadn't seen them for awhile so I thought they were phased out. Sorry!

My neverfull I purchased this past weekend has a cloth tag as well. HTH

Thank you both for answering my question. Like I said earlier, just got a bit nervous b/c I thought they had been phased out. Puts me at ease knowing that other new bags have the cloth tags too. Thanks again! :flowers:

This need to have MIF is part of why the bags now have the leather tags and say Made in Paris on the outside.

^There's no such stamping on LV.

LV has long been a globalized company. There's an old thread on TPF about the cloth tag, and lots of info on the multiple places LV is produced.

Thank you so much for replying!!! I just got a little nervous b/c I thought all the tags were leather now, but then I figured there was no way I'd get a fake through the official website. Thanks again for putting my mind at ease! :D

You're welcome. Mine is the new model with the zip pocket so they are definitely using the cloth again. I was surprised when I saw it. Not a big deal to me though.

As some people put where they're from and some don't do people think wanting MIF is more an American thing than other parts of the world?
I hope I don't offend anyone, I've got bags from France and Spain as I'm in England, I've never purchased in the US due the price difference, exchange rate in our favour.

I was thinking the same. I am quite new to LV but every time i've been in store I have only ever seen Made in France, the two bags I have purchased are MIF. I was wondering if the ones Made in USA are only for the American market? I've never even seen Spain on a label. I guess I should feel pretty lucky to live in the UK if that's the case.

An SA told me the ones in the US that say "Made in the USA" tend to be the more popular bags that do really really well. They import the materials from France and I guess the people who make them go to school for 3 years. At least, that's what she told me. But importing the materials then making it in the US is cheaper.

Personally, it doesn't bother me if I end up getting a bag Made in the USA. It doesn't make the quality any less in my mind. If it was made in China, then that'd be a different story.

LV can be made in several countries including France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the US. Italy is most notable for sunglasses, shoes, and even bags while France and Spain cover predominantly bags and SLGs (of course this isn't a precise detailed list but hopefully you know what I mean).
These countries are responsible for covering the global market but because the demand in the Americas was so high LV in Europe couldn't keep up and outsourced production to be local and to produce the most popular designs such as the Speedy, Keepall, Neverfull, Delightful, Totally, etc. (again not a precise detailed list). Occasionally a MIF or MIS bag will become available for sale in a North American store but it's fairly rare and is a result of Europe helping to fill an order...although I've never seen the SLGs MIU before so I have to assume that France and Spain are still in charge of those.

It's cheaper to import the material and build the bags in the USA than to import the finished products, because that's taxed differently. That's the real reason Louis Vuitton has factories in America.
