Portero & Fake Louis Vuitton

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

So their policy is "If we get caught selling a counterfeit item, we will refund the customer's money. Of course, we hope our customers aren't very savvy and that they will never figure it out so we can keep the money."

Just deleted their bookmark on my computer.

Brilliant!

I wasn't even aware they were selling fakes. I totally believed their bogus authenticity guarantee. I only found this thread because I was googling the prices on their site. Their prices, even if the items are real, seem incredibly inflated for second hand goods. I was hoping to get some deals on Hermes scarves, but it seemed like all theirs were selling for higher prices than what I paid in the Hermes store. Much higher, like 130 - 150% of the original price. I looked it up on the Hermes website, and I was absolutely right. Portero has several maxi-twillys selling for $500, but new ones at Hermes.com are only $335. Same dimensions, fabric, etc. The only difference is the more expensive ones are used. I haven't checked on the other sizes yet, but I'm fairly certain the square scarves are listed for about 50% more than what I paid new. Now I'm wondering if the same is true of the jewelry & watches. And I wonder if those are fake too. Overly inflated prices, counterfeit goods.... Why can't anyone just be honest with consumers? I hope they get sued by the design houses for this.

I think the description is rather funny.. "This rare and unique Louis Vuitton golf bag is in excellent vintage condition. previously owned by famed female golfer, Nancy Lopez, this piece was originally produced sometime in the 1970s. The exterior features the signature LV monogram canvas and is trimmed with tan leather and brass hardware. There is light patina on hardware and light scuffs/wear throughout the exterior due to age and gentle use. This only adds character to a fabulous collectors piece. This is a true one-of-a-kind Louis Vuitton find. It is not available anywhere else in the world and would make an excellent gift for any golf or Louis Vuitton enthusiast. "
I'm kind of a dummy when it comes to fakes. I can only tell if it's REALLY obvious, like if it says CHANNEL instead of CHANEL, or it's made of plastic. Please don't laugh, but how can you tell this is fake?

Thank God I did a search at TPF first. I was searching elsewhere and it indicated that they have an item I want so I quickly search TPF about them. No thanks. I don't really care if the item I am interested in is authentic or not. The fact that they have been caught posting fake items more than once (and how they handle the situation) is enough for me to not want to do business with them.

Still looking for my first pre-loved item.

Hi
Just thought I'd copy and paste what I found at Bella Bags. I found it after looking at a bag I'm interested in on the Portero website, then looked for Portero reviews and I came across this thread.
Bella Bags (obviously untrustworthy going by what I've read on this forum) says they have:

"13 Point Authenticity
Here at Bella Bag we are dedicated to authenticity, it is the foundation of our business and we pride ourselves on our 13 Point Authenticity Inspection. We have in-house authenticity experts that review and assess each bag using this step-by-step process. Our process is based on authenticity elements ranging from font type and size to stitching, and everything in between.
Authenticity Guarantee
We guarantee that all of our bags are authentic and ensure a 100% guarantee on all of our items or we will provide a full refund. Each item we sell is assessed based upon our 13 Point Authenticity Inspection, to guarantee that our customers always receive authentic products.

We Are Trusted
Bella Bag has been a trusted source for authentic, pre-owned, luxury bags for several years, and continues to be a leader in the pre-owned luxury goods industry. We have been a Limited Liability Corporation, based in Florida since 2009, and we serve as an active member of numerous organizations including:

  • The Purse Forum
  • The Better Business Bureau
  • The US Chamber of Commerce Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy
  • The Global Intellectual Property Rights Center"
So apparently they're active members of purse forum? Interesting. Disturbing.

Having said this, I would be interested to hear of people who have had good/honest dealings with Portero.
Cheers

Thank you soooooooo much for this thread.

I had searched previously for "trusted luxury consignment" on this forum and found another thread listing Portero as "trusted". I would have never heard of them otherwise.

I was super close to buying something from their site this evening, but when I read their guarantee, something about it seemed fishy to me. Couldn't put my finger on it, but I did a google search for "reviews of Portero Luxury", and came upon this thread. So glad I did! :nogood:

I was looking for something that was 'safer' than ebay, but I'm beginning to think the only "safe" place to purchase is LV itself. :thinkin:

Thanks, Everyone - you all are amazing!:supacool:

Do NOT buy from Portero. They have an awful fake Balenciaga bag. The date code belongs to 2004 season which never even had that color. Their authenticator didn't even know that?

Thanks, guess I'll add both Portero and Tradesy to my "never buy from" list. Tradesy just had a woman purchase a bag and instead of receiving a bag she got a box of rocks.
If you check their website you can probably still see the warning from this unfortunate buyer.
Be careful out there!
