I want the black one but w/ a fluted bezel and diamond markers, retail is $7950.
The jeweler told the Omega is more of a "jewelry watch" because of all the bling. Tough because there's a $2200 difference and a lot less bling :-s
If I got the Omega w/o a diamond bezel and just the diamond markers = to the Rolex then there's closer to a $5,000 difference! :faint:
Here's the equivalent Omega version:

here's what I'm replacing:

swanky - my honest opinion, the Omega Aqua Terra is going to look similar to the Tag Link that you already have. Now, ask yourself a question 'Am I going to think about the Rolex after getting the Omega' and vice versa. I think you will stop thinking about the Omega after getting the Rolex.

If you have decided to go for either watch, why consider getting pre-owned? What if your Rolex/Omega cannot be fixed by 'gray market' resellers....I don't think any AD will want to accept them after that. At the end of the day, it's peace of mind.

yeah, I worry about that. I tend not to buy anything pre-owned, not cars, bags, etc. . .
I like to take it where I bought it and know there won't be any issues w/ coverage.

samiyahk, any news for you?

Grey market is not just preowned watches. Grey market means they aren't authorized dealers.

Most carry many that are brand new, with boxes & all related paperwork.
I bought a new Harry Winston watch this way, (62% off retail) its even got 'factory' diamonds on it. (Which is just another marketing game to charge outrageous prices for the exact same diamonds you can buy somewhere else for a fraction of the price.) It was not the current years watches that were being sold in HW stores. HW sells last years models to grey market stores. (HW only makes a very small number of each watch, maybe one or two will make it to the grey stores.) So its not like they don't know these stores are selling this stuff. When it finally needed repair, it went to the Harry Winston store & was fixed there. HW isn't paranoid about where I bought my watch. They could trace it back using the serial numbers but they get I'm a customer. They treat customers respectfully. They made their money so why should they care where I buy? I get as good of service from them as my DH does with his HW store bought watch. Have a Patek watch bought the same way & the Patek dealer services it too. No problems.

Rolex is one that continues this AD marketing game with their customers.

I can't help how I feel. I don't have a problem w/ grey market at all. I'm just more comfortable knowing I can send it to the company if I had any trouble.

Rolex with no bling over the blingy-Omega anyday. I think watches look better without any diamonds -cleaner/sleeker look. When it's a nice high-quality watch, I think the watch speaks for itself - no need for bling. Save the diamonds for earrings, pendants and bracelets.

The black face Rolex is nice. I considered the Omega with the diamond markers. I do not regret getting the Omega. It's a great watch. Originally, I was all for the Rolex, which is a great watch as well, but I knew in my heart I would not be ok with spending thousands more on a watch that was comparable. But it took several trips to the jewerly store to make up my mind.
I had to choose between the 2, Omega with diamond markers.

yeah, a $5k difference for same style watch is tough to get over. I'm not a collector, I'm not looking for a watch w/ resale value, not looking for an heirloom, etc. . .

tough one!

I'd actually be willing to buy a preowned from an AD so I could still work w/ Rolex.
But not comfortable in relying on a jeweler instead of Rolex for the life of the watch.

KWIM?

Is the AD willing to give you a deal on the Rolex? I am currently looking to buy a Rolex, and they offered 25% off most of them. I am looking at a midsize black with diamond markers which has the discount and a Submariner which is not discounted.

I didn't haggle, but they offered 10% off w/o asking. I'm assuming when DH comes w/ me to make the purchase he'll get them down more.
25% is pretty generous on Rolex, no?
I was offered 25% off Omega w/o asking but not Rolex.

Over 10 years ago my my mom was given an Ebel by our 2nd dad. I know for sure that his daughter got it in NY wholesale and not necessarily an "authorized" dealer. It need a new battery this year and our local and excellent jeweler sent it back to Ebel. we had no paperwork saved or anything and there was no problem. I bought my Michelle at Jomashop and no problems and saved over 30%. If a place is reputable - I have no problem saving
$$$ to say I got it at Neiman's, etc.
