I’m in the minority on this forum and think the B25 looks cartoonishly small. I am similar in height to you and find the B30 perfect. I echo what others say and would take a B of any size to a casual dinner only. I’m of the belief that totes are not evening bags. I wouldn’t take out a Dior book tote to a formal event even if it was a mini therefore I also wouldn’t bring a B of any size. In the end, go with your gut. What size will you get the most use out of? I don’t find the 30 size heavy however I also live in a sprawling metropolitan where everyone drives so I’m not walking NYC blocks carrying it.

I am 5'5" and I vote for the B30. Trends will come and go, but years from now, if bigger bags are the style, will you feel like your bag is a bit too small? The Birkin is a casual bag and making it smaller doesn't make it dressier, it just makes it smaller. If I'm dressing up, I carry a clutch or small formal bag. I carry my B30 out to dinner all the time, but it's always somewhat casual and i have an elevated casual outfit on. Buy what you love, but I also think if you're looking for timeless and longevity, the 30 is the way to go. Good luck with your decision.

I have both a B30 and B25. The B30 is what I reach for much more often than the B25 due to the short handles. I'm 5'3" and I don't feel I have any issues with the B30 being too large on my frame. In fact, I prefer it, since I can carry it very easily on the crook of my arm.

IMHO the Birkin was meant to be a tote, and not really an evening bag. Perhaps you can use the K25 as an evening bag in the future?

I turned down a B25 retourne and opted for a B30 retourne as my first B. I'm only 5 ft 2 and carry very little on a daily basis. The B25 looked really tiny to me then. Recently I acquired the B25 sellier, I'm not sure if the rigid structure made it seem bigger but definitely more formal looking. I think your decision will depend on how you intend to use your first B. Daily or for special occasions only?

B30. I am 5’2” and my one and only is a B25. Sometimes, I think maybe I should have gone with a 30, although my friend thinks I got the perfect size for my height. When my friend who is 5’8” tries it on, she thinks it looks comically small on her. I don’t carry too many things, so it is never full. I would wear mine to a casual dinner.

I’m also 5’3” and I only have a B30 so far. Before deciding on the B30 my friends kept telling me to get the B25 cuz B30 is very big. Good thing I went to Real Real to try on both sizes and decided to go with B30 even though I don’t carry much in my bag. I couldn’t put the B25 handles comfortably on my arm and I don’t like to hand carry my bags. Pic of the B25 I tried on. The handles are very tiny.

I second (or is it third or fourth) the opinion to wait for the Kelly if that is the number one on your list. True, it will take longer to get, but consider that several months from now, you could have your dream bag, or you could have your "also ran" bag and be that much farther away from having your dream bag. Unless your income is such that you can afford both right away, you will have to start all over with saving for it (not sure how long that will take, depending on your income, it could be no time, a month, a year ... only you know that element of course), and you will also have to wait again at that point, as supply is unlikely to be any different then as it is now.

Best to be patient and get what you really want. The time will pass either way. Might as well have your dream bag at the end of it.

When you say your SA is leaving, are you saying that you are trying to make a buying decision based on letting this person have the commission? If so, that is overly generous of you and I would suggest strongly that you make your buying decision based on what YOU want, and not to benefit the salesperson.

Best of luck with your decision!! :)

Thank you so much for your response! I would love to know why k25 is your preferred size? The Kelly is actually my number 1 favourite bag but going for a Birkin first simply because it is easier to get in my timeframe (my SA is leaving soon). Do you use your K25 for night & day? Thank you!!

I love K25 sellier - I prefer how it actually looks, its the perfect size and I think its great for day time and more suitable for day to night than a Birkin (although I wouldn't use either for evening). It can be casual or it can be super smart and elegant depending on how you dress. I also like epsom a lot because I find I don't need to worry with it (although I have scratched Epsom before). The shoulder strap is also so great and I like that I can alternate between shoulder strap and wearing it handheld with top handle/on the elbow.

I agree with comments that availability of K25 depends on your part of the world. I am in the Uk and personally I have waited the around the same length of time for all bags regardless of spec.

With H - my personal advice is do not compromise and don't be afraid to turn bags down (although I wouldn't personally do this at the start of a relationship with an SA). These are expensive bags and they should be exactly what you want even if that means waiting significantly longer.

Hi all, I would be grateful for some help on which Birkin (retourne) size to go for. I am really torn between the 25 or the 30.

I am 171cm (5’7) and this will be my first quota bag.

My hesitation is that the 25 is too micro for my height but the 30 is too big to take to dinner? I have been able to try on the 25 in store but my SA didn’t undo the wings so it looked smaller than what it may actually look.

Thank you!
Hello,
For your height, you can go with either.
I am 5'8 1/2 and I find that 25 looks too small for me for every day use (suitable for evening wear). But I don't go out much in the evening due to my little daughter.
But for your height, both size works. It would be best to base it on color.
I have chosen a bag based on my preferred color more than the size since both size are not too much different...unlike comparing a size 25 and 35 which is a huge difference.
and i did not regret when I chose the color I prefer.
