What about thinking of the Birkin as a shopping bag? Would you be more comfortable carrying a purse the size of the bag you get when you buy lipstick or perfume? Or the size of the bag you get when you buy a single pair of shoes (the one that’s half the north/south size, if that makes sense)?

The 25 is rather a small tote bag; can’t do too much toting with it. If you want a smaller purse I’d go for another style, Kelly, Lindy, etc.

Sometimes it’s difficult to accept that H bags are not always the right bag for what you want/need. I don’t think you should force yourself into choosing a bag that’s too much of a compromise just because it’s Hermes.

ETA: I think the 30 is the perfect daily carry and I love the 35 for a little extra space when needed, but that’s JMO :flowers:

I am the same height as you and I personally really dislike the B30 on my frame. I feel like it looks far too big and I never carry enough to justify the size. I also think that the B25 isn't that small - but I am comparing it with K20 (which I wear often) and K25 (my number 1 preferred size). I agree with other comments that neither is a true evening bag but I feel the B25 is more versatile and goes with everything I wear. It depends on your style - I find the B30 very elegant and mature looking and the B25 more fun and youthful
Thank you so much for your response! I would love to know why k25 is your preferred size? The Kelly is actually my number 1 favourite bag but going for a Birkin first simply because it is easier to get in my timeframe (my SA is leaving soon). Do you use your K25 for night & day? Thank you!!

Curious why you think the birkin is easier to get than the Kelly? Recently it seems the Kelly is far easier to get/in greater supply than the birkin so I’d truly advise you to always just ask for what you actually want and let fate decide.

Hi all, I would be grateful for some help on which Birkin (retourne) size to go for. I am really torn between the 25 or the 30.

I am 171cm (5’7) and this will be my first quota bag.

My hesitation is that the 25 is too micro for my height but the 30 is too big to take to dinner? I have been able to try on the 25 in store but my SA didn’t undo the wings so it looked smaller than what it may actually look.

Thank you!

I have both and am a few inches shorter than you. I suggest the B30. While I love the lightness of the B25, the tiny handles drive me nuts. I have very small hands and arms and even so, I have to carry the B25 in my hand rather than the crook of my arm. Both carry options would be ideal. The B30 would look nice with dressier work clothes that you could wear to dinner, though I wouldn’t wear it with a cocktail dress, etc

I like your thinking and I would be very happy if that is the case:loveeyes:! Truthfully, on my wishlist I have K25 as my first preference but realistically I think my offer will be a Birkin… but let’s see what fate has in store for me as ideally I would like to own both eventually:blush: To answer your question: what I have seen from friends in my country is that they have had to wait a lot longer for their K’s than their B’s (even longer if it’s a small size or a neutral). We receive a lot less stock on this side of the world compared to America & Europe… and I’ve also been told Kelly’s take longer to make and therefore there are less to offer. But your post gives me more hope…. Let’s see which bag will choose me!

A Birkin, to take to dinner? It's a tote!

Just because a bag costs thousands, don't expect it to be universally appropriate.

I live in NY, and a Birkin 25 or 30 can be irritating to take to dinner (both are bulkier than a K25 or smaller)
agree with @textilegirl that H bags are not always what you need Lol. Buy what you fall in love with. I think you will know when you see it. the majority of my Bs are size 30, but I carry very little and find them heavy. I love my b25, but not for dinners out. IMO it’s A cute day bag.

When I made my SO in September I was questioning whether to get a B25. I think I was 80% for a 30, but there was a part of me that thought that this could be my opportunity to get the B25 since it was an SO. I talked it over with the store manager who reassured me that the B30 was the perfect all round bag for me. Trends come and go, but a B30 is a classic size for a tote.
I am only 5ft 2, so a B25 would be appropriate size wise, and I carry very little in a bag so I don't need the excess space. however I love the look of the 30 as a day bag. I think the B25 looks a little shrunken as an out all day tote. To combat the weight I asked for Chèvre as it's lighter than togo.
Also, as park56 said, I think the tiny handles would annoy me. I wear the Cartier Juste un clou bangle and ring and they catch on everything! I imagine they would be banging off those tiny handles every day. That would be irritating.
A Birkin really is a day bag, but I have no issue with taking out a tote for a casual dinner, especially if you've stayed out, and haven't gone home and put on more evening attire. I live in a more casual city though, very fashionable and cool, but never too dressed up. I have seen B25s out at night and thought they looked adorable, and paired correctly with the outfit. Mine will be primarily for daytime and lunches though, I don't even like my Kelly sellier 28 for evening as it feels too big.
The most important thing though is getting what makes you happy, you really can't go wrong with any of these bags, they are so special. Enjoy

That’s a tough decision. I’m 5’4” and own both. Initially I preferred B30 for the perfect day bag but now I prefer the size of my B25’s. I don’t prefer to carry my totes on my arm so the smaller handles don’t bother me. It does look proportionally small but I love the smaller hardware size of the 25 and the capacity of the bag. I often wear it out to restaurants as it’s a perfect companion in the car…but I do live in the suburbs.

Wise words "’I'd truly advise you to always just ask for what you actually want and let fate decide". Ask for what you truly want and will suit you best- you don't want to have regrets.

It is also much, much harder to get a Kelly than a Birkin where I live. The wait for a Kelly is 2 to 4 times longer than for a Birkin. But I understand just the opposite is true in NYC, so it may depend on local demographics, local store manager orders and a variety of other factors.

Wow!! 2-4 times longer is a lot. I am in Australia, we are just lucky to see stock considering we are so far removed from the world lol
