Cheers :flowers: Ardennes would have a flatter grain, and I believe it would only have a brown “Hermès” stamp in a lighter colour called Natural.

Chèvre leathers depict colour fairly accurately, so I’m leaning towards Marron Foncé although it may be Havanne.
As we mentioned Ardennes I have one more question.. do you think this leather Ardennes? And it seems to be raisin? Year is 2009

I appreciate your thoughtful comments !!

Going to research Marron now, can’t find to much on Havane. Is Cocoan possible? I definitely prefer a lighter warmer brown but there’s not much I can find on CdC, specifically colors or even much about the leather.
CdC in Cacoan would be a dustier dark brown shade— think dark chocolate covered in bloom. Unfortunately, I don’t believe the older Chèvre leathers were made in many true light brown shades, but there were some brownish neutral colours like Cognac and Caramel.

Gorgeous!

If it’s from 2009, it cannot be Vachette Ardennes. This looks like Calfskin to me instead of Vache/Vachette, so I believe it is Evergrain. Given that, the colour would likely be Ébène or Marron Foncé.

Edited to add this: Post #20 in this thread shows a nice example of an Evergrain Birkin in a similar shade.

Cheers :flowers: It looks like the leather is accurately described in the listing as Clemence. I am still unsure of the colour, but once you find out the year that should help.

Update: The seller said they didn't know the date of the bag. I followed up with a question about the date stamp, and they did not reply, so I guess it's destined to remain a mystery. I don't feel comfortable purchasing something I cannot be sure of the colour of.

I'm fine with passing on this particular bag, but my inner Trixie Beldon has always loved a mystery, so I've been looking at a lot of golden-brown Vespas to see if I can work anything out. Taking QuelleFromage's suggestion, I've seen some Vespas in Naturel that are very similar -- but also some that look much cooler in tone. It may be that the sellers have not listed them correctly, or there's differences in lighting/photographs, etc, so I've reached no real conclusions.

One thing I have noticed is that Vespa TPMs with leather straps are rarer than the ones with the canvas straps. Could that have helped date the Vespa? Were they only available in certain years?

Thanks again to all those who've shared their knowledge so far. I'm enjoying learning more about this.

Hiiii! Happy New Year, everyone! Can someone tell me what the stitch color is of this bag? There seems to be a slight pink undertone to it? The bag color is eucalyptus. It’s a U stamp. Thank you so much for this thread! It’s so full of great info!

I would consider this stitching dusty brown. It is more light and faded than the original Eucalyptus stitching, which was usually a mid-toned or cool-toned true brown. If you look at some of the older Vert Olive bags, the stitching has a similar dusty purple/pink undertone. You’ll also notice that the colour Eucalyptus has slightly changed since its original release to include more green undertones. Originally, the colour had more brown undertones, so the stitching looked almost tonal.

It concerns me that the seller is not able to tell you what the bag’s date stamp says, considering they presumably have the bag in their possession. I took a look at the pictures from the listing again, and I can see exactly where the date stamp is. It is not faded out, though it is hard to see with the subpar pictures in the listing. It seems to be a D in a square, 2000. I am still unsure of the colour. While it is true that Vespas with leather straps are rarer than their fabric strap counterparts, both were available over several years, so it would be difficult to ascertain the date with that information alone.

Clemence does not come in Naturel. I believe the only Vespa leather that came in Naturel was Ardennes. Also, bags in the colour Naturel generally have white contrast stitching, but the stitching on this bag looks tonal. I think your decision to avoid this bag is a good one.

Thank you! Yes, the stitiching reminds me of Boise de rose(?) a little. This color definitely leans more green. Some lighting it looks totally olive green and no gray or brown in sight! Now I have to go look in the stitching threads to see if I see one that’s close. Thanks for your help!

That's alright! Here is something to get you started:

This is a Clemence Bolide (Vert Olive) posted by @Perigord. Look at the stitching-- the purplish tone looks a bit like the stitching on your bag!
