Usually I can't take the plastic off of a Birkin. I finally took the plastic off my SO face plate but not the sangles. It will stay like that. But this Kelly I just got in black.... well I tried to keep the plastic on but was dying to make the black POP with the gold... so I took it off this morning. Ohhhhh it is soooooo pretty I can't stop staring.

I generally take some of the plastic off, I always leave the feet ones on. However while reading this post I looked down and saw this piece of plastic sticking out of my CDC. I think it's time to remove it. lol

IF ~ the first attempt of peeling off the clear protector is tough! I admit I am guilty... :sneaky:. I left them on for few weeks before the painful process...

Your black K28 with GHW is a stunner :woohoo:

My SA told me that the plastic cover would tarnish the hardware. Since then I'd remove it within first few days.
Moreover, craftsmen would remove the plastic cover when the bags are sent for spa.
I guess many bag lovers would leave the plastic covers on for protection, but after paying so much for a bag, I think we should enjoy and appreciate the lustre of the pretty hardware of H bags instead of the dull plastic covers!!

This is exactly the reason why I take off the plastic off almost right away. Leaving them on in some climates does more harm than scratches will ever do!

The only time I didn't take off the plastic was when I got my Chanel GST last year and it was an accident.

I took it out for a Summer lunch with my friends and one of them noticed the blue stickers still attached to the 4 round hdw on the body of the bag. I couldn't believe that I didn't take them off when the plastic color was so visible! :p

We had discoloration under the plastic on a belt buckle bought from the boutique and sat unused in closet for perhaps 1 year. I was told in NYC madison ave. store that the discoloration was from the plastic. The SA took the buckle upstairs, and it came back looking like new. She said that they buffed it. She said not to leave the plastic on. FWIW.

Speaking of leaving on plastic by accident, some years ago I had an LV bag where the plastic was so good that I didn't see it, until it looked like it was wrinkling. I didn't realize it was a plastic covering until I went to the boutique and they took it off. I felt so silly.

Odd that a lot of the B and K still have their plastic on the hardware. Is that the done/recommended thing now?
The first thing I did when I got my bags was pull off the plastic -- the privilege of ownership, like ripping off the giant tags on beds

I believe a lot of the plastic on the hardware that you see is the aftermarket hardware protector by orange shields

Ripped off the top hardware sticker last night. Just have the underside ones still on because not visible on a K when closed can keep that scratch free a little longer.
It was nice to peel the toggle ones off i did that on day one. Now all the hardware is nice and shiny [emoji93]

Have you tried them before Liz? I'd be worried if there is a tacky adhesive that might leave sticky residue on the hardware and that can be hard to remove without rubbing alcohol

Yes I bought them and the stickiness is like cell phone screen protectors so they easily Peel off without leaving any residue I've pulled mine up and put them back down to readjust them because its difficult to get them straight. But, they are like $40 with shipping and tax which I feel is way overpriced considering what it is and it only comes with one set. But unfortunately there's only this seller that makes them that I'm aware of so they can charge a high premium.
