Plastic protector on hardware

I've been hearing about leaving plastic on or off all the time! I have had plastic on some of my hardware before, it didn't not leave marks on it or tarnish the HW. Maybe I didn't leave on enough to cause the marks or tarnish??? But it sounds more like it has lots to do with your local climate, maybe??? However, I have used jewelry cloth to polish the hardwares, it's does a good job!

well....i don't want to open a can of worms but it does affect us. we can't deny the small essence of H choosing their clients based on the image we can give to their branding, yes? please don't take me wrong, i am not implying to obey their branding formula. but there is a branding image H wish to keep and the monopoly is in their hands. popular threads on topics regarding paris H bag shopping, how to maintain relationship with SA, etc all evolve on this concept

this is an old thread but the subject is as new as ever.

quoting myself, after that bag i always made sure to remove the plastic. i couldn't get the discoloration off the hardware since the entire piece was affected. it was about 2 shades darker than normal palladium. the other palladium parts that did not have the sticker on were fine. but it did not bother me enough to send it to spa.

the plastic comes off as soon as i get home! i got a preloved bag that plastic still on and once i peeled it off i saw discoloration. it's still there and it really bothers me. i prefer scartches to discoloured metal

This is what I've always heard is the risk of leaving plastic on. The stickers get sticky over time and can have an adverse effect on the metal parts.

Not just bag hardware, either. The last time we moved, the moving company guy told us to take the moving company stickers off our furniture as soon as possible. Even though the stickers were on the undersides of the furniture, and easy to remove, he said that given enough time, the stickers would get sticky and become really hard to get off.

I'm comforted reading this thread. I'm also slow with peeling it off. Same with my watches' plastic. It took a long time for me with my Birkin. Even when I did it, I reapplied all the plastic bits to a stiff piece of plastic & put that in the envelope with my sales slip & such. Why I did that, I don't know.

I. just. can't.even. I am super resisting even commenting on this idea.

Lol!!

I sort of wished I heard about this when I was visiting Los Angeles and my kid knocked me over forcing me to fall and scratch my Kelly's feet so badly they lost their shape [emoji51]
I was mad for like a second and then forgot about it [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51]

I think you are quoting the wrong post. I can't see what your posted got to do with my post.

Often times I can't bring myself to remove the plastic from my bag's hardware. Thankfully my couch didn't arrive with any on it. hahahahahaah
Fortunately Pottery Barn removed the plastic when they delivered the couch or I might have been tempted...:lol:

As for bags, I leave the plastic on until I am absolutely certain I am keeping it. I I do save it for longer term storage but I am not sure that it does anything:smile:

OMG i am like you I keep and re-apply the bits to a piece of glossy paper and put that in the H envelope with sales invoice ....I thought i was the only "crazy " one here :)

You can always replace feet.

I just personally don't see the point of spending $13K on a bag then wearing it with plastic on the beautiful hardware. I might as well wrap the felt around it, too, and maybe always carry it in its raincoat. But each to their own. It's your bag and if you want to carry it inside its box with a handle attached that is your right :)
