Plastic protector on hardware

My "ritual" has been to leave the plastic on for about 2 weeks. I don't know why. I also leave the paper mats on top of my mats in my new cars for a few days...just to delay the inevitable...I 100% agree that these bags look best with the plastic off. But really, to each their own.

I don't know how to quote you all but THANK YOU! I will go get off plastic on bags now. I know I will be happier. I also think I will use them more not thinking about them staying "perfect". As there is no such thing!

hubby saw i was delaying removing the plastic off and said to take them off if i want to enjoy the full beauty of the bag and not give this joy to the next potential owner ( same reason we don't have seat covers in our cars, hehe)..

I take mine off as well.

I have hairline scratches on the hardware of my Kelly from constant use but I like to think that adds to her charm. She's very well loved.

Never leave the protective plastics on for too long esp if you live in humid country. They OXIDISE and leave a mark, unless you want to tell the world the bag is brand new....

My bag from 2010 came to me with the plastic still on, and I've had it for about three weeks but haven't taken the plastic off yet. I was planning to leave it on for a bit longer but now I'm thinking I should remove it...

Given that plastic is a much softer material than metal, it's not like leaving it on is going to protect the metal hardware significantly. In other words, anything hard enough to scratch the metal hardware would likely scratch it regardless of whether a thin plastic film were on it.

Also, isn't the point of a Birkin to convey status and wealth ("I'm wealthy enough to spend $10000 on a handbag"). If that is the case, the person should the wealthy enough to treat the Birkin like a regular handbag and get dings and scratches on it ("I'm wealthy enough that I don't care if I get scratches on this $10000 bag, I can just buy another one"). If one buys a Birkin and then babies it excessively for fear of hurting the resale value, that doesn't go with the image of wealth that Birkin is supposed to convey.

exactly!! but people are entitled to their own opinion, practice and habits. i take the plastic off before i officially start using the bag. i have friends who leave the plastic on. that's their preference. now that i'm thinking about possibly leaving the plastic, i would be so embarrassed if my SA were to see the plastic intact.:nuts: so yes definitely plastic off.

I am so bad about taking the plastic off....it's so difficult for me!!! I don't know why, usually my SM will just rip it off if she spots it because she knows I can't bring myself to! Usually I leave it on the most scratchable parts, like the turnlock plate, or where the ring hits on a CDC. I will tell you NY climate is fine for this....last month took off plastic that had been on for three years [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51] no ill effect.

I'm with your. I'm slow about taking the plastic off...it's really what the person is comfortable doing. It's their bag!
