I was at the Henry Jacques boutique in Paris in January. There were some problems with shipping to Switzerland. So I bought nothing but decided to come back. I have lost any interest in other brands and finally I have HJ. Even DH joined me.
I took some pictures there.

Thank you for sharing these pictures, looks beautiful!

I’ve only ever really worn 3 perfumes in my life-all rose based..

YSL Paris(since the 1980’s)
Jo Malone Red Roses
Kilian Roses on Ice

The last smells the best on me-I’ve toyed with the idea of a bespoke scent based on rose, but want to try more rose scents first, although the Kilian is my current signature scent.
Paris is all but discontinued and very hard to get hard of, and somewhat dated, I started wearing it at about 14..Jo Malone is a bit ubiquitous ..

I have an unopened bottle of Paris, but haven’t decided what my next perfume purchase will be..

The Henry Jacques perfumes in @Tasha1 post look lush!

I am in love with rose fragrances for bedtime. I love to spritz myself with a rose scent before I go to bed.
I have tried so many, and I prefer a single note scent. Jo Malone Red Roses is the bomb for me.... it is the closest to a pure "open rose" scent.

A close second is Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose. This is a super old fragrance that Nicole Kidman used to love The smell is more of a "green rose, with crispy leaves." It is not as soft a Red Roses. I used to love it, but I stopped buying because, right or wrong, I felt it was more a drugstore fragrance.

One scent I recently smelled was Tiffany Rose Gold Perfume. I was given a sample, and it smells nice. It's a tiny bit sweeter than Red Roses. I can see myself wearing that to bed as well. The downside as I recall is that it does not last.

My daytime fragrance is more on the bold side. My two daytime scents are tuberose perfumes.
I love Carnal Flower and Fracas. My favorite is Carnal Flower, and it is the purest tuberose scent.
It's very different than roses, but maybe try it and see if you might like it.

Man and women go nuts for it. It's crazy, but I get asked what I am wearing quite often, especially with Carnal Flower.
Fracas is the original tuberose by which all perfumers reference. It's nice also.

I have not tried Roses on Ice as I am not a fan of sandalwood as it can be overpowering.
How would you compare Red Roses vs. Roses on Ice? I would love your thoughts given you also like Red Roses.

Red Roses was created by Kilian (of Kilian Hennessy Cognac) for his wife, who liked gin and tonic -its hard to describe as I don’t drink gin, but it’s not as sweet as Red Roses,it’s like a rose gin and tonic!
Red Roses is Also great on my skin too,I love it as well as a pure rose perfume , but when I wear Roses on Ice nobody knows what I’m wearing -although of course different scents are different on everyone.
I’d love to have scent by Maison Kurdijakan , but the bespoke prices for a rose scent are tens of thousands , which I’d rather spend on jewellery tbh..
Thank you for posting experiences with other rose scents as I do want to try another one!

Thank you so much for these pictures and for your insights re HJ!
also enjoyed reading the posts of @jblended and @Love Of My Life, and I hope to visit someday soon

my favorite rose fragrance which I can no longer find was an older version of Or et noir urn by Caron
the one that I contented myself with (and quite like) is an older version of Une Rose by Frederic Maille.
i think of Une Rose as the white burgundy of rose perfumes.
I wear POAL a lot which is a darker rose. And though I no longer wear much Serge Lutens, I still have
quite a bit of Fumerie Turque which had some rose accord (@Christofle reminded me of it recently
Guerlains older Nahema extrait, IMO, is a bit of a challenging fruity rose.
Creed and Maison Francois Kurdjian had some sweeter Bulgarian rose scents.
And, there is a dark rose by Andy Tauer that for some reason has recently turned powdery on me.
Phi une rose de khandahar. Oddly the newer renditions are green? My older version was never green even
brand new. lol

Happy to see so many other rose lovers! My favorite fragrances tend to be rose + patchouli + citrus/spices depending on the season.

For fall and winter, my favorites are Radical Rose and Portrait of a Lady. For spring it’s Diptyque Eau Capitale. For summer, Chanel Paris-Paris and Heeley Hippie Rose.

@cecchetti if you’re looking for scents that are really rose centered, you could check out Diptyque’s Eau Rose. They have an EdP and an EdT. I prefer the EdP personally. You could also check out Rosa from Santa Maria Novella.

Oh yes... I forgot about Creed's Rose Bulgare. I used to wear that at night, before I discovered Jo Malone Red Roses.
I liked it a lot. It's not a pure rose, it's mixed and a bit sweet as you said.

For fragrances, I'm a single note, white flower gal (e.g. tuberose, gardenia, etc...), and while Creed has some nice florals, they never seem to last on me! It's crazy... I can spritz something on such a White Flowers (beautiful scent by the way), and after about two hours, the scent is gone on me. Creed White Flowers is beautiful, especially for bedtime! Makes me feel like I'm sleeping on a bed of fresh cut flowers.

Thanks for reminding me about Une Rose. I tried it on, but I felt it was too complex and not a scent of a single rose. Your post has prompted me to try it on again.

Thanks for the suggestion on Diptyque's Eau Rose. I have read about it, but I have never tried this brand. I think of them as a candle company as I had an SA that constantly gave me their candles.

I am going to try this one though as it's often listed as a great rose scent. Thanks! :hugs::heart:

A well constructed, well priced patchouli rose used to be Perles de Lalique.o
I seem to recall Eau Rose as a bit sweet and fruity, but I don’t recall if I tested edt or edp
Expected Heeley hippie rose to be dark and intense, but it felt light to me, even with patchouli

before I discovered POAL, I wore l’artisan rose voleur. It was discontinued around the time I discovered it, so I ran around trying to find leftover bottles that retailers would sell to me

@BigAkoya , imo Une rose is a complex scent. I don’t consider it a soliflore despite the name. . . I really do think of it like a perfectly balanced white burgundy. So, if you are looking for a soliflore, I would simply test it again before committing

ETA: I haven’t worn Amouage Homage in a while, but I vaguely recall that was a mix of rose accords too. Also, Lyric man.

Thank you so much for suggestions of rose fragrances to try!

Paris is a bit dated, and getting very scarce anyway-I used to wear the pure perfume , now even the edp is hard to come by, so I really need to retire that-I have one last unopened bottle atm.

Leaving me with just 2 signature scents-Red Roses and Roses on Ice, until I fall in love with another.

I Did once have a bottle of Guerlain “Jardin des Bagatelle “- another rose perfume, but I don’t love that enough to wear it all of the time, although I’d like something I won’t find on everybody…Jo Malone is very popular, although in the U.K. it’s pear and freesia (I think) I’m told which is her best selling scent.

I don’t mind spending enough to make sure that my 24 year old friend won’t be wearing the same thing..although MFK apparently charges £36K+++ for a bespoke scent..if it were 10 times less I’d have my own Bulgarian rose formulation and stick to that.

I used to be best friends with the U.K. personnel manager of Chanel (now retired) and would spend days with the French “nose” of Chanel..where I saw the safe where the formula for No.5 is kept, he let me mix some notes, and gave me a tiny carved wooden bottle containing pure Bulgarian rose Otto, which I still have to this day.
Happy days..

Back to topic, I’ll try some of the suggestions kindly provided, once I’m happy I’ll replace Paris in my trio of perfumes.

One day I may have a bespoke scent, but it would be rose, and there are a huge number of rose perfumes on the market already..

Good advice, and you are absolutely correct! I need to give up on Une Rose. It's too complex for me. I had such high hopes for Une Rose, especially given the name as you said. I also tried Lipstick Rose, but that was also a no for me.

I love pure white florals, nothing earthy, and no fruits.
I don't like smelling like a grapefruit. I have never been able to love the scent of "fruit" on skin. For me, fruit is to be eaten, sniffed and savored as food. For me, fruit is not to be rubbed on skin.:heart:

Since you have a lot of knowledge on fragrances, I would love any sugestions on gardenia fragrances.
I love gardenia, but the perfect gardenia has eluded me.

I love rose in perfumes, and had to jump into this conversation (even though I should be working on a project right now, lol). I went through a big rose "phase" a couple years ago and tried a variety of rose perfumes. To make sampling easier at that time, I ended up categorizing rose perfumes based on my own perceptions and convenience into categories like dark rose, soliflore, roses and violets, abstract rose (those that smell like rose scented powder, cream etc.,) and so on.
I’ve toyed with the idea of a bespoke scent based on rose, but want to try more rose scents first
Floris makes bespoke perfumes. I don't know how much it costs though. I own two rose-based perfumes from their original line -- China Rose, which is discontinued, and White Rose, which rumor has it was a favorite of Queen Elizabeth. White Rose to me is roses and violets. It's a pretty fragrance. I was seeking a rose perfume that smells of white roses, rather than deep red or pink tea roses, and this one fit the bill.
I’d love to have scent by Maison Kurdijakan , but the bespoke prices for a rose scent are tens of thousands
I am not a fan of many of the MFK perfumes as I find them to smell quite synthetic, but his A la Rose is quite nice if you're looking for a soliflore. I really liked Aerin's Rose de Grasse when I sampled it, but that was a few years ago. I also have somewhere in my sample stash a vial of Penhaligon's Elisabethan Rose, which to my nose is pretty much a classic rose soliflore.
And though I no longer wear much Serge Lutens, I still have
quite a bit of Fumerie Turque which had some rose accord
I haven't tried Fumerie Turque but I own both Sa Majeste la Rose and La Fille de Berlin. His Rose de Nuit is a bell jar and one I would like to sample some time because I am curious about it.
I love gardenia, but the perfect gardenia has eluded me.
I love gardenia too, and own a few different ones. Have you tried Soliflore Gardenia by Dame Perfumery? I have a sample somewhere, and it's definitely a soliflore. It would help to know which gardenia fragrances you have already tried. I'm sure @880 will have some excellent suggestions, and am looking forward to her input.

Thanks @Purses & Perfumes for the compliment. I’m tagging @Tasha1 who knows considerably more than I do.
I agree Carnal Flower is great, but most gardenias are a composite of tuberose/gardenia with vanilla or musk
Chanel’s gardenia is famous for not really being gardenia, but delicious. Robert Piguet did a gardenia. EStee lauders gardenia was very popular. Gucci did a gardenia. There is Isabey Gardenia. And Givenchy Amarige. And, I would bet that serge Lutens has a gardenia version too. Kate Middleton wore a gardenia fragrance on her wedding day, but I dont know the name

@Purses & Perfumes , re rose de nuit, I read a review once that said it was a very animalic rose, aka dirty rose. I have a sample somewhere, but I never tried it.

Agree about Chanel Gardenia. It's very nice, as is Estee Lauder's Tuberose Gardenia. VC&A's Gardenia Petale is also lovely, but more of a mixed bouquet than a pure gardenia to my nose. I own and enjoy all three, but the one soliflore gardenia perfume that was very true to the flower was Yves Rocher's Pur desir de Gardenia, which is long discontinued. I haven't tried Piguet's version.

I probably won't pursue sampling Rose de Nuit since I have scaled back on sampling and am trying to focus on the many bottles in my collection, not to mention samples. Tomorrow, I will likely wear my sample of T'aif by Ormonde Jayne, a rose fragrance I recall enjoying when I last sampled it.
