that's a wonderful way of describing complexity. I find that I enjoy the discovery process of the perfume as it wears on my skin throughout the day. little surprises here and there, or anticipation of a scent that I know will come forward in hour 2.... I'm a sucker for dark depths. Carnal Flower is something I shouldn't love (I'm not a huge tuberose fan in perfume as it often makes me nauseous, literally) but it is balanced so perfectly in CF. The green notes hold it back a bit, and then the depth comes into play -- earthiness? green stems close to the ground? It's like smelling the whole entire flower as it exists in nature (which I actually love). I am astounded by the composition of that scent; it plays like a song.
Thank you! Carnal Flower is an excellent example of the skill and artistry of perfumery. As you say, the green notes are perfectly proportioned to balance out the richness of tuberose. You can definitely sense the depth and complexity of the composition.

I also enjoy the evolution of the perfume throughout the day, and especially getting little whiffs of the fragrance as you move around. In a sense, the scent of the day is your companion throughout the day, and no matter what kind of day I am having, even if it's stressful or difficult, getting that little whiff of beautiful fragrance is like a little break that elevates your mood and takes you to a better place. It's also mentally engaging, since I will sometimes wonder what I am smelling and go check out reviews or start pondering about notes etc. All through this pandemic, especially being home bound, I did not carry my bags enough or wear my nice clothing. But I wore my perfumes every single day and it was engaging and enjoyable to be able to use them.

I actually hated tuberose until Carnal Flower.

While I do love many complex perfumes, I have nothing against linearity. Sure, it can be boring (Tom Ford Private Blends, I'm looking at you), but a well done fragrance is a well done fragrance. Profumum Roma is known to be a house of linear perfumes, but it's one of my absolute favorites because the fragrances are so luxurious.

Hi all! I've only recently gotten into fragrances. After ordering the Byredo sampler box, in the last month I have purchased a large bottle of Super Cedar, and small bottles of Mixed Emotions and Black Saffron. I want to also order Rose's No Man Land, but I am unsure if I should purchase the small or larger version. My question is, in your experience how long do perfumes tend to stay "good" (ie don't turn)? I looked it up online and found 1-10 years, which is vague. If a bottle stays good for 10 years then of course it is worth buying the larger one, but if it only lasts a year and then turns, perhaps I should stop buying pricy perfume right now.

I think it's mostly how the bottle is stored. Put it on a place it gets direct sunlight, and is generally warm, it will go bad so much faster than if it's stored in a cool and dark place.

Finally, I got samples from LS, LBG( Les Bains Guerbois) and waiting for Gallagher's samples, totally over 50 samples bought-got in January:biggrin:

I also bought 3 full flacons and they added 3-4 samples

I feel so much better now! There are a few Gallagher perfumes that interest me, so excited to hear what you think of them Did you order from the Gallagher website? I'm planning to buy a perfume bottle as my Valentine's Day gift to myself, since I don't have a SO to do it. Plus chocolate, of course.

You're welcome! If you have a local Sephora or Ulta those should have a bunch of these scents to test for free. Nordstrom is another place I've had success with testing perfume. What are your favorite perfumes?

I feel like my scent preference has changed and want to find a new favorite. I have some samples from Sephora I should go through again and test more next time I go to a store. So many options!
