Thank you! This is very very helpful! I love soapy. In the springtime and early summer I sometimes wear Iris Silver Mist by Maurice Roucel for Serge Lutens. IMO it’s not characteristic of SL bc it lacks that sweet, amber oriental bois vibe. (Of course there are many Lutens without that base too though). I guess it’s also different bc it’s chilly and refreshing.

You’re very welcome  and omg how funny I actually just ordered a sample of Iris Silver Mist after I typed my message. I got thinking about iris and I’ve always wanted to try it. I’m not too familiar with Serge Lutens but I love the idea of chilly and refreshing

does anyone here have an opinion on 28 La Pausa extrait and whether or if it compares or contrasts favorably to Frederic Malle iris poudre. if So I would love to hear an opinion!
Agree with the post by @Ailes. La Pausa EDP is lovely with a true, deep orris note. It doesn't change a whole lot or develop on my skin, but the fragrance has a subtle complexity and a suggestion of layers and depth. It does not last long on me either, but it's one I have contemplated buying off and on because I love the smell.

Iris Poudre definitely has more going on than just iris. It opens with aldehydes, and I also find it quite powdery in the drydown. I mention this since I know you are not a fan of the powder note in fragrances.
LP I got on a recent iris / orris kick where I got 4 different iris fragrances . I have a mini IP from an FM discovery set.
Would love to hear more about the other iris fragrances you ordered. I've been planning to order a sample of Iris Silver Mist and Masque L'Attesa for a while now.

Yes, but even when you think you are sure after multiple applications, your olfactory senses and your taste can change, no idea why.
So true. For instance, I used to love Fleurs de Citronnier in the summer. This summer, I am not feeling the same. Maybe it's because we have had several rainy days this time? I don't know what changed. But I know this happens sometimes and when it does, I just put away my bottle until I am ready for it again.

Some perfumes take time to grow on you or sometimes they can suddenly just go from like to love. This happened to me with Mitsouko recently. I always liked it, but it truly clicked this summer when I was testing my EDP formulation. As I was sitting typing something, I kept getting wafts of the perfume and it was so amazing. It made me go hunting for an extrait version because I have heard so many good things about that version.
And then there are some perfumes that charm me instantly...and then I realize later that I don't like them nearly as much as I thought I did when I first got a whiff.
This is the category of perfumes that has got me into the most trouble in the past, when it comes to inflating my collection.
I have learnt to slow down and not buy a bottle just because I am charmed by the scent after wearing it once or twice. Usually, if I finish a sample and miss the scent and order another sample, it's a fairly reliable indicator for me that I might need a full bottle.

Been using a lot of new fragrances lately (gf doesn’t like them on herself).

I tend to really like florals and the lazy Sunday one is quite nice! Lovely lily of the valley and iris without being too overbearing with excess sillage.

I tend to collect from Hermessence (Paprika Brasil, Vétiver Tonka, Albre Narguilé), Frédéric Malle (Iris poudre, Carnal flower), Atelier Givenchy (Néroli),Yves Saint Laurent (6 St-Sulpice, Jumpsuit, Capeline), Guerlain (Pamplelune)… to name a few.

Does anyone have any interesting coffee scented fragrances to recommend?

Agreed La Pausa doesn't last long unfortunately.

And L’Attesa is one of the 4 iris fragrances I got along with La Pausa! So I got:
  • Masque Milano L’Attesa - dry, dry rooty orris. It’s very makeup-like and dries down powdery.
  • Papillon Angelique - soft, pretty floral. Slightly buttery iris and mimosa. Also dries down powdery. Not long lasting.
  • Maison Crivelli Iris Malikhan - this was what kicked off my iris fascination. Rich, earthy orris, bit of leather and woods, vanilla in base. Vanilla tends to pull overly sweet on me but it's balanced out nicely here. Although I can imagine would be too much for warm weather (it's currently winter where I am).
Would recommend giving any of these a go for iris fans!

Iris Malikhan sounds lovely! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these iris scents. I am wondering if I will like L'Attesa, since it sounds like it might be pretty dry. I do however enjoy make up and powdery scents so it still might be worth sampling.
Truly, La Pausa is very nice, so at some point, I might cave in and get that one and just re-spray as needed.

This may be too light for you but Atelier Cologne has Café Tuberosa that's a unique blend of coffee, bergamot and rose. I wear it daily.

Talk to me about Chanel No19 :graucho:

I know Chanel No5 is 100 this year but somehow it's not me.

Cuir de Russie ETP (which is very me) or No19?
Both. . . For different seasons. (assuming your skin chemistry can handle green leathery notes of 19. there used to be plenty of vintage 19 EDC floating around which was my favorite rendition. I got a a lot of green galbanum and iris which made it very very different (I’d test again for my post except im having massive allergies.

I have CdR extrait in the little tiny bottle from years ago (when it came with gardenia and Bois des iles). It’s mellowed into a smooth leather wood fragrance. Last time I wore it, I didn’t get a green note (trying to think if I’ve read a recent review that mentioned green, and I don’t think so.

the most recent boisdejasmine 19 review is from 2006, and I’d weigh the merits of chasing a vintage version (with likely damaged top notes) to a recent rendition, and probably purchase new. . . However the recent house tendency to sell their fragrances in extra large jugs just irritates me. . .
