I have to comment on this...
I don't mind people looking at my ring (3ct oval) especially if its a female but what does get on my nerves is when they yank my hand and put their fingers directly on top of my diamond!!!! It gets fingerprints and I hate that, I don't know about you ladies but I clean my rings every day and love for my center stone to have a clean, fingerprint free surface lol :D

I just went to dinner with a lady sporting a...are you ready...13ct princess cut center stone and 3ct each side trillions. OMG, what a ring!!! Of course the ring came up in conversation, so I got all the specs. Her earrings weren't shabby either 10tcw. My 3ct Kretchmer ring and 5tcw studs looked like chips. BTW...I didn't grab her hand, but I felt like it!

how do you keep it clean with 24hours wearing?
I wear my 5.35ct, and see dust just about 2 hours after cleaning.

Hello, I'm new here! I was drawn to the jewelry pages, since diamonds are my first love (purses are a whole new obsession). Just wanted to say that some people will stare at your beautiful ring because they admire it, which is nice, yes? Others stare for other reasons, which would make me uncomfortable, then yeah, I'd turn it. Where I live, my ring is a honker and gets a lot of stares, but it's all relative, since mine is a 1ct solitaire with a plain wedding band, no pave and no sidestones. The ladies I work with wear plain bands and no bling, or around a quarter carat if that. Beautiful rings, but small. Makes mine look enormous! Charlie.x

Sprinkles&Bling I am just like you!! I clean my ring quite often as it is a large emerald cut - you can see the dirt more clearly vs. a brilliant cut!!
I do get quite a lot of stare though with my ring, however when I'm with DH I do feel quite safe - I just simply hate it when someone I don't particularly know comes up to me and grabs my hand to get a closer look at it! When I'm not with DH though and going out to do errands by myself, I usually leave my e-ring at home and slip on my "gym ring" or just my wedding band!

Lady V, I also don't like my hand being grabbed by strangers when I'm alone because with the economy being like it is who knows what some individuals intentions may be... I have a friend who was robbed in a grocery parking lot in broad daylight!!!! All the guy took was her ring which was an 8ct diamond, she remembers haven seen the guy inside the grocery store when she was shopping which probably means the guy was scoping her out after seeing her ring!!!!

Omg!! I actually had a recent encounter when I was out shopping, and this SA that was kindly helping me saw my ring and instantly grabbed my hand! She was 'ooh-ing' and 'ah-ing' at it and then all of a sudden she tried to slip the ring off my finger!! :wtf: I pulled my hand away and she was merely like "Oh, I just wanted to see the ring more closely!" I dunno why she felt the need/felt like she could even take the ring off my finger without even asking - not that I really would have! lol I'm sure she had no ill thoughts but still, it was a bit strange!

^^^^are there really people out there who do not understand the concept of personal space? *strangers* do not get to take your jewelry off, the better to see it anymore than they get to come up and feel your pregnant belly.

Oh my! Having people try to take your rings off would be scary even if they were just trying to admire it. My original wedding set, (the pic in my siggie) was purchased when I was 18 or so and I worked at a jewelry store in the mall, you would never guess how many women (young and old) would ask me to take it off. I would look at them like they were crazy. Not only is that a strange request of someone you dont know, I also think it shows a lack of class on the part of the person asking. Ive seen HUGE diamonds (like 15+ carats) with special settings that allowed the diamonds to be removed and locked into a pendant, I would never dream of being so rude or uncouth to actually try to take it off or ask them to let me try it on. Thats very weird, who does that?

My ring is also not huge (.8 carat solitaire) but it meets Harry Winston's requirements and that's good enough for me. What I've noticed is that the engagement ring itself doesn't draw attention, but my wedding band does, which is a 2.4 tcw shared bar band, also HW (size 5.75).

Sometimes it does make me feel self-conscious when people in my office are staring at my wedding band, probably b/c it's crazy sparkly, and I think it's because I don't look very old even though I'm approaching 30! I've semi-gotten over it, but I am very cognizant of it, esp when traveling internationally. I actually have a plain plat band (that matches my DH's) for traveling.

I love my jewelry, though, and would not give them up for the world!!! Sometimes I feel shallow and superficial but at the end of the day, I don't care!! :blushing: I'm very happy to have you girls to share my love of sparkly and not feel bad about myself!

Hi Ladies,

I always stare at rings. Not to be catty and judgmental but just because I LOVE jewelry and I like to find out about ring specs and learn more about diamonds. I also love big rings but I have small hands and a big ring would look kinda obnoxious on me. But I love seeing others w/ ginormous rings. I love finding vintage rings or ones that have unique designs. I always smile at the person and say: nice ring or something. But I hope I don't make anyone uncomfortable.

I say flaunt it in a safe way!
