I had a customer come in yesterday with the most enormous stone i have ever seen IRL... i found myself staring at it, i eventually asked what the carat weight was out of curiosity, 3.5!!!! however she had it set on a really wide band almost as wide as the stone itself and it really didnt complement it. nonetherless it was an amazing peice.

I dont really mind them staring, it just makes me uncofortable when strangers walk up to you and grab your hand to get a better look at it. That is so rude! Hello! I dont walk up and grab you! Some people have no manners. :wtf:

If a stranger does walk up and grab your hand--immediately curl up your fingers so they can't slip the ring off of your hand! That happened to my mom--crazy!

Wow, some stories freak me out! LOL! none of this stuff has ever happened to me and I wear mine everyday, everywhere. People don't ask how much, if it's real, etc . . . .

I wear a 3.65ct antique cushion (avatar) and haven't really noticed anyone giving it undue attention. One time, though, I wore a 3+ carat that happened to be a really flashy headlight type of stone (something about the way it was faceted the thing was so blingy and bright! My current stone is way more understated) - this wasn't my ring, but one I was wearing to show a potential buyer (I sell antique diamonds) but this guy noticed it and made me really uncomfortable asking, is it real, how big is it, etc. I was on guard half expecting him to be waiting by my car to jump me, lol, then felt really guilty later when I spotted him having lunch with his wife and kids. I guess he was just being friendly, but it kind of freaked me out.

I have always worn 2+ carat stones, though, and that's the only time anyone stopped me to talk about it.

I think it comes with the territory..it's big, sparkly and for me anyways when I see something sparkly I always look..I'm just drawn to it for some reason. however if you are in a sketchy area I would turn it around so people can't see it.

I too stare. But I usually just say "I love your ring, do you mind holding your hand up so I can see it better?" I never touch, and I never ask too many questions, I just admire.

I notice people staring at my set sometimes and my solitaire is not quite a carat and it still makes me feel weird. Somehow good but someone uneasy wondering if they're judging me somehow.

^^ 1.5 would look like a knocker on my hand, i can't imagine a 3 ct, that could be seen like a block away.
LOL!

Most rings that I see are quite modest, like my own. I never see/notice any rings that are like, 3 ct. Of course, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not really able to tell carat weight by sight alone, so what do I know? But if I happen to glance at a woman's hand and see a large stone, I would NOT stare. I'd look away. I mean, what if it's not a real diamond or something? The person might be uneasy and self-conscious if you stare at it!

i love to stare but i think i'm pretty discreet about it. my friend got taken aside by two young guys and asked if her 1.5 was real. it is a very sparkly ring, and she has small hands, so it looked huge.

I had a Dentist that could not stop staring and admiring my ring. Asked how many carats while he drilling on my teeth. Ok concentrate on my teeth. Don't focus on the shiny thing....:shrugs:

My diamond isn't huge. It is only a little over 1.5 cts, but most people guess 2-3 cts because I have a size 3 ring finger, so it just looks bigger. And people do stare at it and do the head to toe thing. A few people asked me years ago if it was real, but nobody does anymore. I think people assume it's fake. I'm a SAHM, and I dress accordingly (no offense to you SAHM's that get dolled up every day..I wish I had that devotion and energy, I just don't). So usually I'm running around in old tennis shoes, or uggs, or flip flops, regular stretchy not overly fashionable jeans, and whatever shirt I can find clean...lol. No make up, and only a brush through my hair. That being said I'm a diamond nut, and if I have 5 spare minutes, I'm ultrasounding or jet steaming my diamond. So it's always shiny and clean. Ah priorities, huh?
But I don't care what they think...if I cared what they thought I wouldn't go into public that way..haha.

Honestly, I kept staring at my own engagement ring when we were first engaged so much so that I almost had several traffic accidents (embarrassing, huh?). Large, sparkly things should come with warning labels! Of course, I was also thrilled out of my mind to be marrying the love of my life so I had a good excuse :p

I wear my eternity band in lieu of my engagement ring on my left hand when I don't want to draw too much attention to myself (it's usually on my right hand when I have my engagement ring on & if I'm not wearing a cocktail ring). I know my engagement ring diamond is large & large diamonds garner attention - wanted and/or unwanted.

I don't think I stare at other women's hands, but I do admit that I check out their jewelry discreetly (I hope). I can't help it - I'm like a myna attracted to sparkly pretty things.
