this is such an interesting thread.. and one can see how much Amex is valued..

setting up a prepaid account like Angel is a brilliant idea! guess that's partly how Angel has TDF bags!

and.. with bank transfers, do you get to take the bag home while at the shop or wait till it clears before you can take it home??

I used to have a Platinum from Amex.. and then I started using it :wtf: I guess if I ever get an exotic it'll be mostly cash, wonder if they take checks:idea:

No crocs for me, but even on Amex black in FSH they called as the transaction was going through the till to check it. Good job they did as H charged me twice for one bag! :wtf:
They also called to check it was me in Cannes. Guess they will get used to it....hehe.
Odd though as never had a call when spending over and above that here- only ever from spending in France.

Poshoney it can be advisable to let your CC company or Amex know when you will be out of the country (if this is unusal for you). They are instructed to pick up international purchases or amounts "out of character". All part of the safety net.

My DH travels very frequently for business and has never had a phone check on his card. My card doesn't leave my home country much these days (SAHM) so the last time I used it internationally they called for an authorization. I didn't mind, for me they never query amounts just locations.

My DH's big joke (as I'm sure it is for many DH's here) is that any CC theives would probably spend less than me anyway LOL.

Thanks Handybags. I am all over the place in Europe, so they certainly know I travel. Think it's just the large value ones they check. Only Amex have ever called me though. strange! Doesn't bother me though as I'd rather be safe than sorry.
And as you say - when my card got stolen in Barca, they were really confused. The theives kept spending small amounts on my card in supermarkets and on petrol etc, which I would never do. The card company were baffled and kept calling me at home (??) to say "are you in germany buying petrol?" doh! I think they knew it was out of character...
Ok sorry - totally off topic!
But the prepay to the store sounds like an avenue worth investigating. I have seen a few ladies in Chanel splitting amounts between cards so I guess H would also be fine with this. Don't suppose they are too bothered as long as they get paid!
But I am curious as to bank transfers etc - guess you have to wait to take it home?

I've used all kinds of methods :)) DH's Black Amex, split between cash and CC, split between two CCs, and bank wire transfer (only at my local H boutique though).

Definitely American Express - I want all those points for free business class airfare to Italy. After paying for the Hermes addiction, you don't think I'd have enough leftover to actually buy a ticket do you!:nogood:

I use AX and Visa(CMA). I have trained my Merrill Lynch broker to know where I shop. I also have a AX representative that handles my account. She is also aware of my Hermes addiction and shopping haunts. It's very easy to get special attention from AX. They dislike losing clients.

I use Amex, never got a call, never even got a second glance. I think it's because I use that Amex for EVERYTHING. We built a house using that Amex plat charge card...comes in handy for those frequent flier miles to Hawaii!!! The only time I call my cards ahead of time is if I am going overseas. If I don't, I am literally stopped at every store and questioned, then need to talk to an Amex person whose first language is not English. I am NOT a patient person, so you can imagine how many things I have left unpurchased. Now I make it a rule. It was hard when I was living in two places at once....14 hrs flying distance apart!! After a while, I just got credit cards for the UK, US and Asia.

Hi ladies!

My SA　just called me this afternoon and told me an croc birkin is available on hold for me. I am going to pick it up tomorrow, so excited. So now, I am wondering how am I gonna make the payment? by credit card?　yet, my cards only have 15000 usd limits, and definetly not enough for a exotic bag. So, can I use multiple cards to make the payment?
