I think I remember seeing this picture maybe at some point in the 80’s? I was was a junior and senior in high school 80/81, finished college, started working, got married and had our two daughters throughout the 80’s. It’s my favorite decade and the Panthere reminds me of it. Princess Diana and her gold Tank Francaise reminds me of the 80’s too.

I love my watch. Every time I see it, my heart jumps a bit. It was the right desicion to go with gold. I still like the look of the steal with the diamonds, but for me gold is perfect. I am also very, very happy that I went for the small modell. The look is timeless and goes with everything. Even casual outfits.
And yes, I still like the diamonds. They are not necessary, it is a beautiful watch with or without it, but they add a little “color”.
So.. as you can tell, I am still in love. And I am very happy that I went for the Panthere. In my family or my circle of friends, nobody wears this kind of “jewellery watch”. If they care about watches, they go for Omega, Rolex etc. But these kind of round, big watches are just not pleasing to me at the moment and I am more than happy that I went for my Panthere instead.

I almost ended up getting it, it was a very tough choice between TF and Ballon Bleu. All of these 3 models are amazing: TF, Panthere and BB. We’re vaccinated and blessedly back to normal here too. I’m going out into the world wearing watches and carrying handbags again. Funny story—I live in a colonial city and volunteer with the historic foundation. A couple weeks ago I was absorbed in whatever I was working on when a guest silently approached, leaned in closely and whispered, “There’s nothing more beautiful than a classic Cartier watch.”I didn’t see the guest approach so I was taken by surprise and kind of jumped back. Then I realized I was wearing my Tank Francaise, which honestly flies so low under the radar that nobody ever notices it. At that point I just agreed and we had a short conversation about our mutual love of Cartier watches.
I haven’t picked up the Panthere with diamonds yet. Instead I became obsessed with my handbag collection for some reason. I ended up adding two classic Chanel flaps, a Lady Dior, a couple YSL bags, a couple of Mulberry bags, and most recently a few varieties of straw/rattan bags for summer. I guess I collect in phases??) The Panthere with diamonds is still on my to-do list. I’m thinking I’ll turn back to watches and jewelry in the fall-lol.
I currently have the medium Panthere in ss without diamonds, so I was thinking of the small ss with diamonds because my skin tone looks better in silver (think Irish pale/fair), but after reading comments between you and Le Lion I am considering the small yg with diamonds. The Ballon Bleu was also on my radar. I go back and forth about it. When I bought my medium ss TF I had to choose between the two. I already have a small yg TF that I inherited from my sweet mom, but wanted something a bit larger and that I wasn’t so attached to if something happened to it. The way I chose was when I prepared for each day I imagined which one I would wear with my outfit if I had both. The Tank Francaise always came out the winner, so I went with it. Next I went with the Panthere, no contest there. I’m also completely certain about a small Panthere with diamonds, so that’s next. But I can never make up my mind about the BB, so my indecision may actually answer my own question. Maybe I’m just a TF and Panthere kind of girl, and having the medium and small in each gives me enough variety. Do you think you may get the BB one day?
I actually have BB watch in small SS with diamonds. I got it before Panthere. It’s amazing! It was a very difficult decision between TF and BB. I wear it a lot. Definitely try YG with diamonds and see how it feels. Curious to know what you think.
LeilaCreates, are you going to go for small YG with the diamonds or medium? I know my size of Panthere is defintiely small.
Did you ever decide on a Panthere watch (ss with diamonds vs two tone with diamonds)? I ended up getting small ss with diamonds. Loving it! May get YG with diamonds in the future. Love the design, it's the best!
I’m definitely going for the small since I have the medium in ss already, and I think the small with diamonds has a more traditional look. I just have to decide between yg and ss, but feel the yg is a better investment. The small yg TF I inherited from my mom is also more traditional than my medium ss TF. For years I’ve avoided yg because I feel it washes me out with my skin tone, but my mom (Irish, fair, and hair way more bright red than mine) always wore yg, so maybe I can pull it off. I’ll try to post photos when I try them on.
Small Panthere is the most elegant! Very curious to see how it will fit you, the YG with diamonds. I am sure it is going to look fantastic, it is such a classic piece and the new redesigned version that came out in 2017 is awesome! There are slight changes to the 80s model. That's cool that you've been collecting handbags. I love Chanel and Dior! YSL too. It will probably be a while for me before I get YG Panthere since I recently got SS with diamonds as well as other Cartier items such as love bracelet. But it is definitely on my wish list. Can't wait to go to the store and try it on. I'm fortunate that where I live there are 2 stores where I can try it on. The third one doesn't have any YG on display most of the time but they can order it for me and they do trade ins as well.
I completely agree that the small is the most elegant. I feel like the medium ss is a classic daytime/everyday watch, while the small yg with diamonds can work for day but really shines in the evening. I bet it would look great with your love bracelet too!
I love my LB! I wasn't sure at first if I could wear it 24/7 not because of claustrophobia but because I never had a piece of jewelry that I wore all the time, I always take it off at night. It was 7 years ago when I first tried it on and really took my time to think about it. I couldn't decide if I should get a classic bracelet or a cuff and couldn't decide on the metal since at that time almost everything that I had was white gold. But I felt that LB looked best in either YG or PG. I didn't like the look of the cuff. And since I wasn't planning on getting a second LB, I also decided to go for the one with 4 diamonds in it in YG. It wasn't easy getting used to it, it's a little heavier than the plain bracelet, I think it took me several months to get used to it. Now it's totally fine. Are you thinking of getting it? You are right, it will look amazing with YG Panthere watch.
I’m not considering a LB at the moment, only because I like to change up my jewelry everyday and always take it off at night—even my wedding set. I feel like I would never get used to wearing it at night, in the shower, etc… But I love the look of it. I believe Meghan Markle was wearing one along with Princess Diana’s yg TF in her latest portrait with Prince Harry. It’s impossible to tell the gold since the photo is in black and white, but it’s known he gave her his mom’s yg TF, so her LB would most likely be gold as well. They looked perfect together!
Yes, this was Princess Diana's watch - yellow gold TF and this is Megan's plain YG Love bracelet. Interesting that I saw Megan wearing SS TF as well, might have been two tone, not sure. Definitely goes well together!
Meghan does have a two tone TF. She bought it as a present to herself before she met Prince Harry, while she was working on Suits, and had it engraved MM to MM. I’ll be looking forward to seeing pics of your yg Panthere!
