thank you! this gives me even more confidence. SO in ostrich, lovely! ;) other than the handles, does the bag itself darkens for your other bags?
May I suggest that perhaps you might want to read a few pages of this thread to get a better understanding and care for Ostrich leather?

I’m debating whether I should add an ostrich bag to my wishlist, I love the look and feel of it but am wondering about the patina and wearability. Any Insights would be welcome!
They are susceptible to discolouration from the sun, very resistant to water, very susceptible to any oils including those occurring naturally in your skin (darkening). Otherwise the hide has amazing properties (textured, soft, takes colours reasonably well).

Basically don't store it near a window and keep it away from oils and it will last you forever!

Thank you! So are darker colors more preferable than? Since discoloration would not be as noticeable

One of the best characteristics of ostrich leather is that the leather is chalk full of oils so you very very very rarely need to hydrate it unlike most of common exotics. In contrast, (croc/alligator/python/lizard) require pretty regular hydration to avoid cracking / scale curling / discolouration down the road.

I don't own hermes ostrich...BUT I own an ostrich piece from Prada from the 80s and its stunning. Looks good as new even to this day.

I'm assuming hermes ostrich will be just as good if not better! Go for it!

Also, I feel like the darker colors on ostrich may age better, also the darker ones develop a nice sheen I noticed.

I prefer darker skins, but the quills are less noticeable (fine by me).

As @Christofle said, ostrich can fade in sunlight (as can many leathers) fading can affect dark(er) colours just as much as any, it could be even more noticeable with darker colours. If you normally store bags out of direct sunlight and in dust-bags, there should be no problems.

Also, when you buy new, don't worry if the skin appears quite matte. The shine comes with age (on all colours equally) and continued use.

That’s great to know! I was offered a Matte Croc but passed for this reason. I didn’t want to spend more time maintaining the bag than actually using it
