Oran sandals

Hi ladies! I was wondering if any of you own (or have owned) both Birkenstocks and Orans. I am planning to gift a pair to a friend who wears sandals for medium-long walks and wears them even on the subway and I figured he might need a cool new pair.

The price and brand difference are not a problem, since it's supposed to be a "big" gift and my friend is into both designer and non-designer stuff, but I am just torn with the wearability given his needs.

Thank you all!

Ladies, just as an update in case anyone cares, I ended up buying the Izmir sandals in epsom for my friend (sorry, I thought they were also called Orans for men). He says he's delighted and has already used them for his usual long walks and public transport commutes without them coming off of his feet, which was one of my biggest worries, so I guess some ladies here would perhaps experience a somewhat similar situation with their Orans.

has anyone added protectors to the soles of their orans? if you haven't, would you say that they have withstood time and use? I want to buy a pair and considering adding the sole protectors before wearing them out. thanks!

I have not & have found that I did not need to do so. I wear them in the house in the fall & outdoors weather permitting & have not had
them resoled just re -heeled.
On exceptionally hot days I have found the leather lining will lift. The shoemaker remedies that easy enough
that's my only comment about the Orans otherwise they it well, wear well & look great!
I have several pairs and they have withstood the test of time & use

I haven't, and I wear my patent oran sandals to death. The sole is ugly, but it hasn't comprised the shoe itself. I have to see if my oasis sandals can be resoled because those have basically worn through.

I just got a pair of Oran sandals directly from the boutique and I’m almost regretting the purchase !
I got size 37 , tried them and fitted snugged , but I knew they were going to stretch a bit so it was ok ! But when I got home and upon inspecting them closely I noticed they were dirty with sweat stuff left on them ... yuck ! They also looked wore off from the sole I’m guessing from so many people trying them on, I didn’t even want to put them on anymore and took them back to the store for exchange.
I got new ones that looked a lot better but then again at home found some dirt on it !! Goshhhh I’m so disappointed for coming to the store to get them there, I guess is better to order them online , you might get better ones or at least untouched , but on top of that on the second pair, one of the brand stamp is a little bit off!! Moved to the right a little bit ....I was like wtf ! This is supposed to be carefully made because they don’t cost $200 they cost much more! Had anyone experience something similar ? It’s a little bit disgusting having to end up with sandals that hundred of people with dirty feet have tried on and left scum on it ! Now I’m looking for a way to fully disinfect to be able to wear them with some peace of mind !!

Sorry to hear that your in store experience with your Oran sandals did not measure up.
It is disappointing that the sandals were in the condition that you describe.
I would consider returning them & pointing out what concerns you & perhaps ask if the size & color you want are available on H.com
I have ordered on H.com & bought shoes in H stores & have not had any issues.
I also might search the forums here to see what others suggest to clean the lining of your shoes. ( Know that there are suggested wipes posters
use on their bags)

Take them back again and if they don't have a pair in pristine condition ask the store to source you another pair.
I know it's disappointing and not what you would expect from Hermes, but if there is a problem insist that it is sorted.
After your unfortunate first experience, I would have thought that you would have inspected the replacement pair carefully enough to ensure that they were pristine before accepting them.

Yeah I thought I did but it was a Saturday the store was full of people and after I explained why I was coming to exchange them the SA told me she had put one pair aside on hold for me ... so I tried them, looked at them but I guess not enough to notice the stamp is messed up! I just can’t understand that level of quality decline! So many issues with those sandals .. even the lining is cut off not perfect .. well I’m guessing if the bags come sometimes with quality issues how come some a lot more cheaper items would not

So many issues for you with this sandal unfortunately. Bring them back again & explain to your SA that you want a pristine pair &
give her the opportunity to correct this

Agree here since the OP already had a pre-existing issue the first go around

Sorry for your unfortunate experience with the Orans. I wouldn’t be happy, either. But if you truly love the sandal then I would return and carefully inspect before leaving the store, not after. It’s quite difficult to voice discontent once you’ve brought the items home.

Are Orans worth it? I have 2 pairs, both limited edition, and they are some of the best wardrobe additions I’ve ever had. I love them, especially my Year of India ones. I’ve gotten compliments on them every time I wear them, and they are comfortable enough. I must confess that the plain ones don’t speak to me ~ yet! Have learned to never say never.
