I can't believe the ego that Oprah must have to keep herself on the cover of her magazine for all these years.

I do like the magazine but I think Oprah's ego must be the size of Texas.

i don't have a problem with O being on the cover of her own magazine. i have a subscription and i love it but it is just like any of the other dozen mag's i get - i rarely pay attention to the cover model anyway.:shrugs: it is what is inside on the pages that i am interested in.

I don't care about her being on the cover but I DO agree that she has an ego the size of Texas. I stopped working to be a SAHM about 11 years ago after working many years. I was excited to finally be able to watch Oprah. It was the year she had her 50th birthday party and I got so sick of hearing about it and who came and how many people loved her (from her), I had to stop watching pretty soon thereafter. I also noted that EVERY single celeb that came on her show had a segment where they stroked her ego and I wondered if that was mandatory. (I assumed yes).

Ego?
She's earned the right to be on every cover of her own magazine.
And not by sleeping or marrying her way to the top.
What really bothers people, is that she's still breaking barriers, and has accomplished what she was not "supposed to",even in her wildest dreams.

I think it's pretty genius that she's the cover model on every single issue. I went to a publishing conference a few years back and one of the presenters used the O Magazine as a case study and it was really fascinating info. The idea being that instead of being subject to market fluctuations depending on which hot celeb graces each month's cover, Oprah's creating a consistency and new standard. By being the only one each issue, she doesnt have to follow the rest of the pack and depend on other celebrities to boost sales, and if she picks a dud one - have a dip in sales. I love the idea, and the message it sends. She's big and powerful enough to be her own damn cover model. It's awesome. My dream for my own magazine is to do away with cover models completely.

that is exactly how i have always viewed it!!! it is hers and she is running it how she wants! and it works. i always look foward to my issue in the mail.

nice share tks.

and i agree that every magazine has their own strategies. it wld be presumptious of us, who know almost nothing about running a magazine, to judge that Opera is being arrogant. At the end of the day, its results that matter and i'm pretty sure Opera is well-aware of that when she decided to put herself on the covers.

I side-eye Oprah a lot when it comes to her tongue bath of celebs (especially ones like Julia Roberts ugh) but I cant dislike the woman. She's accomplished too much for me to not admire her and I completely get her vision for the magazine and why it runs the way it does.

I love the magazine too, it's just so inspirational.

We keep hearing how print is dead so she's definitely bucked the trend and I love her for that, that she's pushing the boundaries by having herself on the cover each and every time - unapologetically. (We always hear in publishing: Blonde and blue eyes sell, dark and tan dont.) So yeah. Love Oprah for setting her own standard.

O is her brand. O sells herself. People want to hear from HER. She should be the cover of her magazine tbh. She engenders a feeling of trust in her old viewers. They believe and trust Oprah. So she needs to be on the cover imo
