OPI Gelcolor

I got a little mini set of the rnp to check it out. If the gel wears the same, I won't get it. I love the color shifts but it applies too dark so I won't be able to wear it when I'm working. :-(

That sucks! If you're looking for some duochromes, maybe try the orly gelfx chrome collection? I don't know if they have colors with the same shift as peace & love & opi, but orly's colors are clear based with duochrome shifting shimmers--so you could wear it plain or on top of a lighter color polish.

Aww thanks. I really wanted it but oh well. I'll check out Orly and see if anything jumps out at me. I have some duo pigments I can use too but really liked the idea of PLO.

QUESTION... Can OPI gelcolor go directly into nail extension tips...
I mean -
Glue extension too to nail, buff, prep and apply as normal?
Would it adhere? Would it last? X

As long as your prep is good it'll work.

And for the shrinking that everyone is complaining about, you have to wrap the OPI gel polish with every step you do and it'll solve that problem.
Like this, base coat (wrap around), cure, polish (wrap around), cure, top coat (wrap around), cure. It works every time.
The beauty school I went to stressed the wrapping as a cure for shrinkage.
Hope that helps!

:hugs:

What do you mean wrapping x

Wrapping is when you brush the polish down and under your free edge, so that just a bit of color appears under your nail. Make sure to do it with base, top and color, so it doesn't shrink. It's actually a good idea to use even when painting with normal polish too.

Does that make sense? I might not have explained it very well but if you google "how to wrap nail tips" a few good tutorials on it.

Fab makes perfect sense thank you x

I have some polishes that even if i wrap the edge they still shrink away from the tip as well as the back of my nails & even the sides. Very annoying, but if you flash cure (cure 1 -3 fingers before they have a chance for the polish to shrink for 5 or 10 seconds) it will solve the problem. I have found that the 2nd coat won't have that problem.

Thanks for the advice - sounds perfect x

I'm new in this section of the forum. I've been reading through the gel threads trying to decide on a lamp and etc. I love gel nail color but getting to the salon doesn't always work out for me like I would like it to so I thought having the option to do them myself would be nice. I love OPI nail color and have used them for years. I scored the Sephora OPI gel nail kit today for half price! All the OPI stuff was half price in the store. Unfortunately there wasn't a large selection of colors and the sale isn't online but I did pick up a few. Thanks to you all for the great tips! Hopefully, I'm able to use the kit without a problem. LOL! I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow....

Opi doesn't have as many colors as some other brands like Gelish, Couture, ink, ibd. They should as many regular nail polish colors they have released in the more than 15 years I have been getting my nails done. (Doing then myself for about 2 yrs now)

Yeah I have more OPI regular nail polishes than any girl probably needs. LOL! Sephora doesn't have a large OPI gel polish selection anyway but my store was sold out of a lot of those colors. I think they had 5? And I only liked a few of those.

I understand Gelish works well with the OPI lamp. Any other brands that work well?

A lot of gals interchange brands without a problem. Personally, I like using either OPI or Gelish base. I have Gelish, RCM, OPI Gelcolor, Fingerpaints, INK, IBD, Sensationail, and Sally Hansen gel colors. Gelish or RCM top coat are my choices.

Thanks for the info! It's good to know there's more options than just OPI to use with the lamp.
