I knew OPI's were guilty of shrink back. I guess I got lucky that You're Such a Budapest didn't. The chipping though really sucks. I wanted to get Herring, but I guess I'll skip it if the wear sucks.
I put on a SOPI Friday that began chipping pretty quickly and yesterday had to redo all of it. I wanted to use the same color but I was dreading dealing with the shrink back for 3 coats. It is a pretty, bright red orange and I had forgotten that I had bought Gelish Hot Rod Red. As I began using it I couldn't believe the difference in application. No shrinking, very opaque - so much easier to use. I used one coat of it and then a coat of the SOPI. I am rethinking the OPI's I have in my wish list & will look for comparable colors in other lines. I think some of their SOG's get too brittle after they are cured, same with the SOPI base coat that I returned.

Herring wore really well for me and applied beautifully....

OPI's can be tricky though and are more expensive than other brands.

Yeah, I love the 2 colors I have and I really like Herring, so maybe I'll take a chance on it later.

I buy them on Ebay (from a high feedback seller). . so not too expensive, but yeah, more expensive than most.

They need to figure out the shrinkage issue - aren't they the only brand that has that problem?

The opi gels seem to have less odour than all of the other brands I've used.

Thats the only one ive noticed i have IBD, lechat, Sensationail, gelish, OPI, ink,... hmm i feel like im missing a brand... anyways....

I agree they dont stink as much

Speaking of stinking my gelish vegas nights wowowowie it stinks now!

I suppose the difference in smell is indicative of the ingredients and those ingredients depending on the colour can make the formula less stable a shrink more...?

no idea... but i hadn't use it for awhile and its awful now...

I really wonder how different the ingredients are in all these polishes i bet they are pretty close to the same

I have shrinkage problems with 2 different Red Carpet Manicure colors. Drop Dead Gorgeous is terrible and 9 Inch Heels is only marginally better. I also have What a Surprise, but haven't had shrinkage with that one yet. I'm not happy with RCM overall.

Very thin formula with little pigmentation. Need 4-6 coats to get decent color and it just doesn't last for me. I have had chipping in as little as 3 days. I like their remover, Erase, but I won't be purchasing their polish again.

I have several RCM, but I can't remember if I had shrinkage issues with them. The SOPI base smelled like airplane glue.

It's such a pain, but not every color wears the same way. Not all of the colors shrink either. I think that it is important to have a really good base coat on your nails, and to make sure that the surface of the base is dry brushed. I use Vitagel Strength, two coats with dry brushing and I've worn OPI GelColors very successfully. If your nails aren't strong, then you need to make them stronger, either with Vitagel or Structure. Also, OPI doesn't like too many coats. Too many coats and the gel loses flexibility so that it chips off faster. Try not to be too discouraged. I only wish they sold mini bottles.

I think shrinkage can happen with any color from any manufacturer. It's really about the pigment and how it thickens the polish. It's so hit or miss when it comes to getting perfect formulation and it can vary from bottle to bottle. My first bottle of Red Carpet It's not a Taupe (aka Gelish Medieval Madness) was a dream. The second bottle had some slight shrinkage, and chipped. Weird but true.
