The only reason I'm asking is because I return with receipts ALL the time. The SA's encourage me to buy both of the bags I'm debating between and bring back the one I don't want. (B/c if I wait and don't buy it, chances are it wont be there when I come back for it.) So their policy is ridiculous.

Yea! tha'ts what they do to me too!! they won't even hold it for me.
That's why some of them just gets recycled to gifts either that the other options would be to return it when I go back...I usually don't go back to the outlet back-to-back, so by that time, I kinda feel embarrased to even take it into the store.

Now thinking about it, I should gather up all my receipt and return everything that I haven't used! I wish my mom didn't leave yet otherwise I'd return ALL the gift items she took with her!!

I'd tell them to stuff that letter where the sun doesn't shine. Then pay cash at the outlet and refuse to give your name, or buy from department stores. Coach-branded stores/outlets/boutiques aren't the ONLY places to acquire the product from. This thing with their letters and their over-inflated opinions of themselves is BS.

totally agree with you!
it's pretty insane! i buy tons of bags myself, and some go to my mom as well, some go back to the store if i change my mind...

but- since when do you have to fill out manual paperwork for a return? I never ever had to do that yet... ???

I'm going to sound crazy, but here I go :weird: Since Coach is cracking the whip on resellers now more so than before, what if corporate is providing some incentive for stores to report resellers? I'm sure there's bonuses and incentives for stores that have high selling rates (i.e. flagship stores), so why not incentives for reporting resellers too?

Which then leads to my next crazy thought. Resellers inflate sales, so even though they're trying to "catch" resellers now, they actually still really like them, because they make the store look profitable. So, in order to keep profits high, they're not going to necessarily report the high-volume buyers (i.e. the real resellers). At the same time, maybe stores have to report X amount of resellers to meet some sort of quota for corporate. If that's the case, wouldn't stores report the "in-between" people (i.e. people who buy a fair amount, but nothing compared to the real resellers, so they are meeting both quotas for corporate - having high sales, and also meeting their reporting duties)

I told you I'm crazy! But I keep thinking about it, and that's the best theory I can come up with since a lot of legit buyers seem to be getting the letter! :shrugs:

This is a very interesting point. I do also know that Coach as a company is doing fairly well. Do any of you think that all of this cracking down on resellers may affect them financially?

I'm just been reading several threads on here recently about buying restrictions (5, or is it 10 items in signature or leather once a week, or is it once a month)at the outlets, which is something new.

This is the most significant signal that the recession is on its way out. For over a year we have heard very little about "the letter", and now suddenly we are hearing about buying restrictions and requesting ID when customers are using cash. I believe this will seriously curb the sales to resellers, and Coach must feel they are in a position to do that now. Hence, the recession is over comment.

The question is, will they be happy with the lower sales? I wonder if they realize how much of their sales are to resellers? I guess I'm kind of waiting for them to rethink this after they see their sales plunge.

I actually think the restrictions are a result of the recession, and not necessarily an indicator that the recession is over. Many resellers/ex-resellers on here have said that they were a reseller because they their family only had one-income for awhile, or that they were trying to make extra cash while in school, or that they didn't have a job. Others sold for the fun of it. Of course, there are probably a million reasons why people resell, but mainly because it is profitable or they wouldn't be doing it. And, it's a sure option for those who do not have a job right now or need extra cash because of the recession. Yes, you would need money to fund buying them from the outlet first, but turnover is pretty quick. But, all that's just my opinion :)

Coach is trying to preserve it's name by limiting resellers. If Coach is so accessible to everyone, the value of the brand goes down. For instance, LV never goes on sale, and it does not have an outlet. There was an article done about the recession and how these brand names are fairing and LV refuses to go on sale or any other "tactics" because they are committed to keeping their high-status brand name. LV bags are actually destroyed if they're not sold. They rather destroy the bags than sell it for cheaper! Coach on the other hand, has sales, and outlets set up to sell bags from previous seasons, which is why they are fairing pretty well as a company financially, however, the resellers are probably making their reputation as a whole go down. They're trying to protect the name, while also maintaining their profits.

Another random point, people seem to think that all the resellers are the ones on ebay. The real hard-core resellers don't sell on ebay. They sell on those japanese/asian websites - they have so much Coach products that it's like an actual Coach store. And, I know that they are real authentic Coach products from the outlet, not replicas. Coach is expensive overseas, and people overseas are crazy about Coach, so those prices are marked up much higher than ebay.

I can 2nd how expensive things are in Japan. When I go to the offbase Coach store and "outlet" things are like 2-3 times retail in the USA. Its insane. But like a desperate addict I pay the price, and then feel kind of sick afterwards lol

speaking of it, while I was there, there were like 2 japanese resellers, I am assuming together, one had a whole 'brown' bag full of wallets which I am certain was wayyyyyyyyy beyond the 5 / 5 limit while the other went for the bags -- they all got ringed up....

and there I was with 1 bag in hand and an exchange being told I couldn't buy.:cursing:
