OK, WHERE do TJMaxx and Marshalls get their bags?

I've always wondered as well where they get their stock---one time I saw this great leather bag, and when I checked the tag, and opened the little booklet, it was all written in Japanese? It was a bit bizarre. Made me wonder how on earth something that was supposed to be sold in Japan (I'm guessing?) ended up in a Winners store in Canada (Winners = Canadian version of TJMaxx)

There are a couple of regular sellers on eBay who seem to have the better (but lesser known brand) bags from TJM for sale at the same time they show up at TJM, and sometimes a whole lot cheaper. I have to presume they are employees who snag them with some huge discount.

We have two higher-end TJMs in my area, and I know what days the truck comes in...

I have a couple of those no name italian bags I bought from TJMAXX and Marshalls. I really don't mind if the bag is cute and they are usually high quality.

I have a Sofia C (green and black, super cute)
Desmo (black ) from Loehmanns
GUIA'S ( big patent tote for school)
Cavalcanti ( this one is my favorite, big purple ombre)
I also have a yellow Plinio Visona tote I picked up from Marshall.
I have more, just lazy to go up stairs and check out their names....lol

I like unique purses and especially love it when girls can't really tell the worth of my purse. I can be carrying a $2 purse today and everyone in my circle will think it cost a fortune.

I just discovered Dimoni. Found it at TJMaxx. I want to address the original question, albeit have only perused some of the other posts.

To my knowledge you're not going to find high fashion euro-style leathers made in the USA (for obvious reasons, I do not include western-style saddlery and/or native american artwork, inarguably fine in their own right but whole separate 'genres' for sure). Born in the saddlery trade, Italy, France, Germany hold title for doing the best of leathers. There may be up-and-comers (Brazil included), but the finest of artisans with lineage to generations have a mindset/commitment to quality unheard of elsewhere. If you know fine saddlery you know what I mean. Cost of production in mainland U.S. is only but one of the reasons europe hails king in fine leather fabrication. Discounters (TJMaxx being the largest U.S. importer) buy up unsold lots of merchandise from select designers -- I'm sure there are brokers involved; we have to rely on their buyers' good instinct to make sure each one's legit. It helps a whole lot for us as consumers to Google designers by name and do any research we can before we commit to purchase. TLC and proper storage will make a good bag last a lifetime.

I adore TJ Maxx. I've also seen some really nice bags that I didn't buy because I didn't know the designer so I wasn't sure if I was getting a good deal or not. I bought a dooney girly bag from there just months after they came out. I was SOOO excited. I'm assuming they had that one because it was defected in some way but I can't tell.

My TJ Maxx is hit-or-miss but I've found some awesome bags. Both of my Michael Kors bags have come from there and I've seen many other bags I'd love to buy. There was a huge influx of D&B stuff there last time but I haven't seen Coach there in awhile. (Being a college town, girls used to stalk the incoming shipments, haha.)

I found a great Italian white leather handbag at TJ Maxx once, and didn't get it because it was $200+ and I was broke, but I still think about it from time to time. You really can find some great stuff there!

I saw a bag at TJ Maxx for $499.99 2 weeks ago. It was by some Italian named designer whom I had never heard of. It was black AMAZING supple leather and looked just like the Prada leather ruffle bag but it had a braided leather handle ala YSL. I loved it but wasn't about to pay $500 for a designer I had never heard of and was a little leary about.

Generally, it is Overstock from retailers the merchandise that does not sell well in the stores.

Also, the retailers will sell the merchandise to TJ Max and Marshalls to make room for the new merchandise.

I have purchased Coach, Dooney & Burke, and Kate Spade at TJ Maxx. They also carry a large array of Juicy Couture (not my fave) and I have seen Balenciaga, although I did not purchase. The TJ Maxx near my house always has tons of Michael Kors bags. I doubt if you will ever see a LV since they don't discount. You will see D&G.

I've recently seen kate spade and a lot of Juicy Couture in my local tj maxx, but I agree that it definitely depends on the location-I'll drive 30-45 to the more "ritzy" part of the city, and they usually have some great brands.

Sometimes the prices are great, sometimes not so much. I saw a Juicy Bag for $160 (not my favorite brand, but it was cute), and then I saw the same bag at Nordstrom Rack for $120, so I guess it just depends.

You know, I had the same question after seeing a Coach bag there. I called Coach HQ.
I asked them if it was legit that a TJMax would have Coach bags. They said yes. Coach does not sell directly to TJMax, but department stores will. So - for whatever reason, (out of season, overstock, display damage) department stores do sell THEIR bags to low cost department stores like TJMax. I assume it is the same for other brands as well. TJMax must have very smart and savvy buyers !!!
