Ok. Now I am annoyed.

are you ok with them changing the hardware? shouldn't she have gotten your approval and consent first?

That makes me nervous. What if she can't sell the bag, and you then returns it to you?

Hmmm. Well, I am glad that they gave you her cell and that there was somewhat of an explanation. But I have to tell you, this conduct is ridiculous, and I do not like how they took complete autonomy over the bag, and unilaterally decided to service it and change the hardware! That stinks to me!

I totally agree - you said you had a contract for some other stuff you took in there - does it say anything about allowing them to do something like this? Sending it to the spa is bad enough, but to change the hardware?!? They have no right to do that - if the bag doesn't sell, you will get back a different bag from the one you took in.

I would think seriously about telling them you want them to get the bag out of the line and back from H asap and you will pick it up, preferrably from H, yourself. I would then find another consignment shop.

And I would report this experience to the BBB as well as on a thread here as you said that this shop is recommended by other TPFers. This conduct is way out of line. They have no right to alter your bag without your consent! Okay, I'm done ranting...

Why use these stores?, I thought E bay was a good place to sell, The owner seems to have total control over an item that does not belong to them.

I hope it all works out, but I am shocked they are making these decisions without consulting you.

I agree with this comment 100%.
Collect your bag tomorrow.
There are lots of wonderful women that will want your bag without the hardware change.

First, let me say I am really sorry this is still going on.
I think I would go and collect the claim receipt from the store and then claim my bag from Hermes, and then find another reseller. If they do not sell your bag by Aug. 20, and you want to collect your bag, who pays for the hardware change? My guess is you. I think they have you locked in if that hardware gets changed out. I would put a stop to that quickly.

Wow! I am just staggered that this store decided to change your bag! They didn't BUY it from you! YOU own it! I do think you're going to have to email the owner again and state, very firmly, that since you NEVER authorized them to make any changes to your bag, OR send it off to the spa, you will NOT be paying for the treatments.

Frankly, I would not allow the store to hold onto this bag for another MOMENT! Let alone another month!

I am going to the store tomorrow... It will be REALLY inconvenient because of the heat and my nanny is actually not working... <URG>

But after hearing what everybody has to say, my little comfort from this afternoon disappeared again... I will have to see the receipt for myself to know for sure. :nogood:

I thought of using ebay... but honestly there are just so many frauds out there... And when I gave the bag to consignment, this is before I knew about the wonderful people here in the forum... Not to sell, but to know that people here are serious about purchasing. I have had something slightly expensive listed on ebay, and have gotten so many sketchy queries, such as in escrow service, overseas shipping... etc. It was quite a waste of time. Even though I still have that listing on, I pretty much ignored a lot of the false inquiries, and just didn't want to have the same thing happen to me again. Now when I think of it, I should have just listed on ebay. :crybaby:

I agree you should go to the store. It is a pain to go but it will be worth it in the end to end your worries.
It also sounded to me like you very much wanted to believe them (and I can understand why you wanted to, it would be so much easier), and this made it a little easier for them to keep stringing you along.
Seriously, you are making the best decision to just face them and deal with it whichever way it comes out. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Whatever you do, don't let them be wishy washy.

the more I read about this, the more I think there's something wrong with what the owner has been telling you....perhaps you should consider some tpfers who live locally near the shop to go with you. I'd volunteer if I lived there. The moral support would be good for you. You really don't deserve this hassle.

I only just caught up on all your troubles xiaoxiao. I really hope everything works out for you. It all sounds like such a horrible experience to have to go through.

I completely agree with all the other posters that the way this store has treated you is outrageous! It's completely inappropriate to send your bag to be conditioned without your consent, let alone have the hardware changed! The bag is not their property and you've left it with them expecting it to be put on display for sale - nothing else. You definitely should not have to pay for the cleaning and hardware, even if they sell your bag. That's rubbish for them to say they have to change the hardware in order to sell it at the price you want because I'll bet they'll try to deduct the spa costs from your share of the sale proceeds. And anyway they should have discussed that with you and given you option of changing the hardware of asking for a lower price if that was really the case. All the excuses about why no one replied to your messages sound hard to believe - business doesn't stop just because someone is sick. It's their responsibility to hand thing over to another staff member who can deal with things appropriately.

Reputation may be important but it is clearly not everything.

I'm not sure if I've interpreted things correctly but it sounds like you didn't have a written contract with the store before handing over your bag? Again this sounds really unprofessional. I hope everyone makes sure they have a clear contract including details about any cleaning/reconditioning and who will bear the costs before handing over a valuable item to a consignment store.

I really hope everything works out and that in the meantime you can put things out of your mind and enjoy your time with your gorgeous DS.
