Ok. Now I am annoyed.

Also, are you aware that it costs $500 to change the hardware?????
Who is going to pay for that? And who authorized it? It sounds like you didn't know anything about it.

The problem is that people know this store has a lot of inventory most of the time, so unless you are the one spending your money there, the treatment becomes of poorer quality to the consigner since they are the one in the weakest position. You want to sell your bag - and you know they get a lot of Hermes-seeking customers...so people continue to go back, no matter how they are treated. You have to know how comfortable you are with that if you want to consign there. Eventually your bag will probably sell if you hang in there.

What kind of a bag was it?

No, not at all... I have no idea that it costs $500 to change the hardware. If I wasn't told that it will be done, and I didn't consent it, I don't think I bare the responsibility of the cost. If I was told beforehand, and gave my consent, that would be a different story.

Yes, the store has a lot of inventory... And I agree I am in the weakest position, and the fact that people do go back is a big indication that people accept the way the business is conducted (whether it was by choice or otherwise).

I am reluctant to say what kind of bag it is, because I don't want to be perceived as trying to sell it here. But let me know if it is ok for me to disclose at this point though...

Thanks, Haute Couturess... It has been an eye-opening experience...

Xiao- we live and we learn. i hate being taken advantage of. and thats what they are doing to you.

I'm waiting for this situation to turn positive for you.

FYI- If you need some New York H addicts to back you up as your muscles (lol), I've got your back!!:bagslap:

This truly is an eye opening experience for everyone. And thanks xiaoxiao for sharing it. I'm sure everyone will be checking this thread periodically to know how this turns out.

$500 repair without your consent sounds insane. Big hug to you for being so calm and collected. I'd be tearing my hair out if I were you.

I am not being calm and collected, to be honest... My hands are tied and I can't just being pissed off in front of my DS. They said babies pick up people's moods around them... I think I am still in disbelief... Maybe even a little bit in denial... :wtf:

I'm so sorry this reseller is putting you through so much stress and uncertainty! They may sell authentic items, but IMO they are being very unprofessional. It does sound like they are "stringing you along", keeping you waiting with additional excuses for not having your bag. I would be so angry.

Best of luck getting your bag back!

First, let me say I am really sorry this is still going on.
I think I would go and collect the claim receipt from the store and then claim my bag from Hermes, and then find another reseller. If they do not sell your bag by Aug. 20, and you want to collect your bag, who pays for the hardware change? My guess is you. I think they have you locked in if that hardware gets changed out. I would put a stop to that quickly.

hi EH: my thoughts are the same too. When I go get my contract, I will need to verify that with them. I never thought getting hardware changed might be a way to get locked in at all, but it seems so logical to me now.

I will report back once I go visit the store again... Maybe tomorrow or in a couple of days.

Xiao, have you thought about taking some tPF gals with you for moral support, but also for extra ears (and yes, a show of strength...)?

^^I am glad you have thought about verifying about the hardware!!!. I think you need a copy of the cleaning/repair claim paper too before you sign the contract. It is a standard size sheet of paper. It will list the specs. of the bag including condition New, used, for example, with everything left at Hermes with the bag such as the clochette and lock. They usually have an estimate of the value of the bag on it too. IMHO, I would want to see that Hermes actually has the bag in shop before signing a contract with them. Really, they could FAX it to you or your DH before you go in.
Sorry this is such a headache. Just don't want you to have huge problems or be out money in Aug.

I've never consigned anything but clothing. But, the owners go through everything first, and pick out what they want. Then months later they send a small check. I would never do it again. Hope it works out for you.
