In California, it is. Just python. We can buy crocodile, lizard, other types of snake and ostrich.
That's surprising to me!! I never knew that. Would I not be able to wear my Python pieces if I were visiting or because I'm not from there would it be okay? What if you didn't buy it there? That's so crazy, I'm so sorry for the rambling!

You can wear it here and you can own it. It is illegal to sell. So I can go to Las Vegas to the Coach store, buy it, and bring it back home, but I can't order it to have it delivered to my house, and it isn't for sale in any stores in California.

eta: BTW, does that violet saddle bag with the link strap have real python in the links?

I believe the law applies to commercial selling and buying of python, not simply wearing it. If you, as a company or seller, sell python to California you would be in violation of the law. However, no one will stop you on the street and fine you for wearing it.

I'll look into that when I get back on Monday!

So for about 5 min I toyed with the idea of the Python rogue tea rose last fall and I live in California. I would have figured out how to have the bag sent to me of I wanted it.

I researched the Python thing and it did not make a lot of sense to me. There does not seem to be a stronger case against Python skins than other skins. Pythons are not endangered. In a few places they are theatemed but in other places they have taken over and are edging out the native wildlife

I'm was a vegetarian for years and did not wear leather. I care about these issues, but this one left me scrarching my head

But that said, embossed is just fine

Yes I think only the Indian python is on the endangered list. It doesn't really have a protected status which is why, as you know, you're allowed to wear it or carry it into the state just not sell/buy it in the state. According to a NYT article, "In California, the sale of python skin or parts has been outlawed since 1970, around the same time the federal Endangered Species Act of 1973 was being discussed and formulated. Importing or shipping the species or products made from it into the state for commercial purposes is illegal." So it seems like perhaps python just happened to get special protection in CA in a way that doesn't currently make sense since it's a law from the 70s.

Ok spring is going to be easy on my pocketbook. I'm in love with none of these bags. They are too busy. Plus I have a blue Candace (my avatar) and a black Candace. A swagger color block 27, a rogue and a few small bags I'm unsure as they were gifts or from 2001 and I forget names. So I'm good. Just one or two more from fall then.

There was a Coach ostrich tote on 6pm a while back...they're not cheap  I have never had an ostrich item, why do you guys love it so much? Wondering if it feels very different
Ostrich leather is indistructable! I bought an ostrich checkbook cover (anyone old enough to remember checks?) abt 15 yrs ago. At first it was stiff as a board but b4 long it softened up and felt wonderful.

It looks like the day I bought it. No wrinkles, no bent corners- and there are 4 corners-no scuff marks, etc. You'd swear it was brand new. Only problem is, who uses checks nowdays? So, I can't casually pull it out to show it off! And, I can't afford the price of an ostrich bag. But if you can, lucky you!

Keep in mind, the bag will never wear out....even if you want it to. That's often the excuse I use for buying another item. Ha!

You'd actually be surprised at how many of us still do use checks, for whatever reason.
