Yes...a lot less than in the past...but in some circumstances they are still preferable, usually to the recipient! Just my own experience -- some people are doing strictly digital, of course.
I write less than 10 checks a year. Property taxes and repairmen, that's about it. Everything else is paid through billpay online. I don't use many stamps either. I still appreciate the feel of my checkbook covers as even though I pay online, I still record everything in the check registers and balance regularly. My checkbook covers are leather, not Coach. I bought one from Coach once but my Fossil and off-brand covers had softer nicer leather!

Omg, I think those are MY paper check uses also! Definitely the (extortion rate) property taxes -- and those occasional handyman/repairman situations -- although a recent handyman has incorporated Paypal into his billing system. My hubby is in charge of our bill pay online items, as he enjoys doing that and I do not, haha.

And then there's the occasional 'happy birthday' check to a few individuals, but definitely under 10 checks per year! We write so few checks that the actual checkbook has no cover anymore, haha!

In my house, I'm in charge of bill paying. DH is hopeless at it! When we first got married, he closed his individual bank account by going to the bank, asking for his balance, and withdrawing it, totally ignoring all the checks that hadn't cleared yet! A side benefit of paying the bills is that DH doesn't always see all the purchases I make.

Edit -- My hubby does what you do, entering the online bill pay in the checkbook register too, haha.

:roflmfao: x 100!!!

Yikes, I'm not as bad as your DH with the uncleared checks, because I did fine when I was single, but if he volunteers to do it, happily, it's fine with me! When WE got married, we agreed to use a joint account for common expenses and that I'd have MY OWN account for my personal use for those 'luxuries'....but the source for that account was always from my own earnings, before we married. So there's no 'snooping or raised eyebrows' coming from DH...BUT, i way overspend...and I KNOW IT...I'm raising my eyebrows about my own spending!

Please tell me that you somehow got out of paying any 'insufficient funds' fees that you may have been dinged for by the greedy bank, or did the checks miraculously not bounce?

You'd actually be surprised at how many of us still do use checks, for whatever reason.
I still use checks and pay all my bills with checks. However, when I'm out shopping I'll use my debit card or cash. I never do any banking or pay any bills online. (Yes, I have a "thing" about online personal info). My DH never writes checks and leaves all that to me. He says that I'm much more organized than he is. Anyway, it's routine to me!

We got married in Nov. We kept separate accounts. He has an electronic reoccurring transfer to move money to me. We live in and are praying off my house. He sold his condo. I like feeling like we don't have to ask each other. When we retire we may do joint. No clue. Long way off.

Exactly the same here.

I don't like anyone or any business knowing anything about my banking. I even opened a second savings account to attach to my PayPal account when I needed to attach a bank account to it. If I need to pay for something online, that's what my paypal account is for. I'm not very trusting of online banking.

I'm thinking of doing that very same thing, opening a separate savings account to attach to my PayPal account. I want to have a "buffer" between my savings acct. and the recipient of my Paypal transaction. I wouldn't have to worry that an 'inside job' crook from a retailer, has direct access to my savings acct. It would be easy enough to do (for me to add an account AND for the crook to get access to my savings, lol)

That probably can't happen. However, having a dedicated account for paypal that you keep minimally funded prevents paypal from grabbing money in the case of a dispute if you sell. For buying I fund my paypal purchases with a credit card. That is the safest way to do it. Then if you have a dispute with the seller, and paypal doesn't side with you, you can open a dispute with your credit card company.

Exactly. 'inside crooks', very apt name for what I'm concerned about too.
