I may be considered a hoarder too. However, the article gave the example of someone who has the same item in multiple colors, unused with tags still on them, as a hoarder. I may buy more than one color or size of the same style bag, but I use them. I think key lies with bags you rotate in and out of use and ENJOY. If your bags sit unused, and the sheer quantity brings you more stress than joy, that's where it crosses the line into hoarding, IMHO.According to todays Purseblog article, i am officially a BV hoarderrather then a collector. I have a spreadsheet I use to track how often I wear my bags, and it also helps me track cost per wear. I'm not at a point where I would be ready to sell any of my bags yet. However, when I'm ready, that spreadsheet will probably point me to the obvious choices.Hello my name is jbags and i am a BV hoarder
You are in good shape b/c you have a carefully curated collection and have enough bags for variety but a small enough collection that you can carry and enjoy them. I like having a lot of bags but definitely have way too many to be able to carry many of them. So most just sit, unused, or carried once or twice a year. I really enjoy collecting and having them tho, but it does bother me i can’t properly carry many of them. I have let quite a lot of bags go the past year so I am doing better. i do need to sell more tho, i would be very happy if i could get my total bag collection down to around 100 bags, all brands and styles. My BV collection is quite large, i stopped counting at one point, and have sold more then i’ve purchased lately, but i need to do a head count.
Love this idea, along with the visual collection albums. Seeing things in black and white might motivate me to let go of more bags. And its wonderful as it helps you keep your collection in check!I have a spreadsheet I use to track how often I wear my bags, and it also helps me track cost per wear. Thank u for posting this! You gave me much needed perspective.I think this draw of holding onto bags - which I certainly am doing, though I occasionally part with some - is exacerbated by the fact that designers change and some of the older designs we want need to be snapped up when available. The perception of scarcity contributes in my case to wanting to keep a bag just in case. Also the recent reports of repair issues with Modern Leather, where I have sent one bag before, make me concerned that I might not be able to get a repair back that I am happy with.
Who gets to make up the rules anyway?Thank u for posting this! You gave me much needed perspective.
Perception of scarcity. Thats so insightful and so accurate.
I was focused on the fact that i have too many bags and feeling kind of badly about it, tbh. I’ve always been a maximalist anyway, and with the perception of scarcity in play, i want to add and keep all the TM BV bags that spark joy.
But reading your words really helped me focus on why. If i find amazing TM bags i love, and decide to buy, if i then sell i might never find another in such wonderful condition. I do feel like once i sort of round off my collection, i will have these bags for the next 25-30 ish years, lol. I am 53. Plus, Its already getting really hard to find excellent condition TM bags. And repairs are tricky now. I am going to try Rago as was recommended, and i can let everyone know how that goes. As far as Modern, if i showed you before and after photos of what they did to my cabat you would be flabbergasted. How they then handled it all is even more disheartening.
If this was the 90s/early 2000s, and there were a lot of amazing bags being produced, with no concept of that ending, i would not feel the need to hoard. Thats really the key here. I love most of TM’s bags, and if i had more room i would not have sold the ones i have, in the past year. Take my BV out of my bag collection, and i’ve curated it really well the last couple of years, and let go of styles/colors/brands that did not work for me.
So i kinda do want to hoard what i have, b/c this is my favorite brand/era, and i just love these bags. I feel like you helped give me better perspective, and i really appreciate your insights. I feel better about it all b/c i do feel guilty about having more bags then i need or can use. And i will try to let go of a few more TM colors/styles that don’t really work for me, but i will give myself permission, for now, to keep the ones i love ……i discovered BV 5? Years ago, and it was so much easier to find good bags then, but now, indeed scarcity is reality.
I feel like this was a mini therapy sessionThank y’all for allowing me to explore my BV hoarding condition here

Well said! If it fits your needs/wants and you can buy it and still provide for the necessities in life, aren’t harming anybody by purchasing it, and derive some joy, then why not enjoy it? I don’t think every bag has to be used regularly to keep it. Maybe it’s like the holiday platter I only pull out once or twice a year. It means something to me at the time and I like to have it around.Who gets to make up the rules anyway?![]()
Indeed! I love thisWho gets to make up the rules anyway?![]()

Plus I don't see a lot pf people judging if you collect antiques, collect cars, anything other than handbags in fact.Indeed! I love thisI live my life on my own terms and its my business how many bags i have. I make my own rules!
In various threads there are comments made about owning too many bags, and kind of judging people who have ‘excess’ ….like its a badge of honor to be a minimalist. But its a choice, and we all have free will and choice - i don’t judge you if you wish to have a minimal collection. Don’t judge me for my maximalist collection. I wear a pretty simple wardrobe, and my bags/scarves are my focus. I am overweight and its not fun to clothes shop. I have wide feet and wear Birks 95% of the time. I put all of my money into, and enjoy very much, my bags.
Yes to everything u said
Great point too about all the things we have for occasional use. I love having certain colors or styles around to carry occasionally, just like the platter that gets used once a year.
It took me awhile to fine tune what colors and styles work for me, and i can let go of the ones that don’t. And keep the ones that do.
This! No difference.Plus I don't see a lot pf people judging if you collect antiques, collect cars, anything other than handbags in fact.
Hmmm, maybe point that out to them next time they snark, and wear your bags proudly! This! Yes! So true. We all spend money differently. I get all kinds of judgy remarks from mil about my speedy like its the Hope diamond lol, after she drops 25k on a viking cruise.
I know plenty of people who collect all kinds of stuff, have large and $$$ collections (from guns to cars to art and pottery) yet i get the remarks about too many bags. Because they do not see value in bags. But its ok for them to collect things they feel have value. Most family and friends we visit or spend time with, i don’t bring my nice bags b/c every time i will get snarky comments if i do. I would never critique any of their stuff so its puzzling to me why they feel the need to do so to me. Fil collects and spends staggering amounts of money on camera equipment b/c he enjoys taking pictures….and has a nice rolex on his wrist. But if i wear an H scarf or a designer bag, i get snark. Explain this to me b/c i don’t get it. And it seems like having nice clothes and jewelry is acceptable, but not bags.
So true! They are works of art, therefore perfect items to collect.
