I want to convert this phone cord into more of a lanyard/key chain - either for keys or to dangle bag charms from, while wrapped around my Cabats/Venetas. I figured i could just buy a metal loop that opens and closes, and attach it above that end piece, and remove the black loop.

Wondering if anyone here has a better idea? That end piece is very obvious and rather obtrusive though. Versus the looping end of lanyards. Its so darn difficult finding lanyards! And when these phone cords pop up in cool colors/treatments, it would be great to be able to somehow convert them. Any ideas or input would be very much appreciated!

Matthieu Blazy if you read this thread, please bring lanyards back!

I tried on a shorter phone charm and couldn’t get it to work. You can certainly loop the black cord around a key ring, but it hangs down a bit too far. I eventually lost patience with it, cut the black loop off, and had nothing I could work with,so threw it all in the trash.

I was surprised to see that the older version of the lanyard with the metallic clasp is not available online. I use mine everyday to hold keys. I sometimes loop it around my neck when I'm in a rush, and sometimes I put it in my pocket. The clasp has held up flawlessly for years with daily use. Is there enough slack on this little loop to thread it through a key ring? But it seems a bit fiddly to undo it if needed.

I actually purchased it this evening, so its not in hand yet. I took a chance on being able to somehow adapt it b/c of the finish — it almost looks like the Moon Cabat finish? Similar, at least. I imagine the black loopy thing is elastic and will be tricky to thread through a ring. I will try tho! The color/finish is really cool on this one. I wonder if i sent it to Modern Leather if they might be able somehow to add a ring to it.

The TM lanyards have not been available for a few years unfortunately. They are so useful and versatile, as you mentioned. And unique with the woven leather —the ones DL produced were just leather cords with knots placed at intervals and did not interest me at all. i do have some of the TM lanyards but would love to add other colors/finishes. Since MB has brought back many older TM styles (with his own twist), it would be wonderful if he brought these classic lanyards back too.

The black loop is not elastic; that was the main reason I ended up cutting it - I got it on a ring and then couldn’t get it off.

Woman, trust NOT Modern Leather.

ETA you should have a local leather hobby shop that might be able to help with your ideas…?

Oohhh great idea, find a local cobbler! Thank you :) i bet they can figure something out! I will report bavk if its a good solution.

I certainly would never trust Modern with a Cabat or metallic bag after they ruined mine

I have 2 bags that need linings replaced. One is a vintage fisherman style bag, the lining is disintegrating.

The other arrived today. I knew the lining has stains, but it smells too. I really like the bag, but can i trust them to replace the lining? If not it goes back tomro. Its a karung Monaco.

J @jbags07 - for the lining replacing, try Rago Brothers in New Jersey, they have a website which is set up for you to send in your repair request with photos for an initial assessment of whether they can do the repair and cost estimate. And they are honest about whether they can fix or improve something.
I am not affiliated with them but more than a few years ago, I turned to them for “rescue” after Modern did a really horrible job on a couple of my BV bags. I heard about Rago from SA in the handbags dept of my local Newman Marcus. I send just about everything to Rago these days - anything from shortening Hermes bag strap to cleaning off melted resin glaze and refinishing the glaze. I have not used them for Hermes bags “spa-ing’ like what @docride does, but there is a video somewhere of Rago repairing a birkin. (Sorry, if ot here.)

What could work for that BV phone cord - check out the craft stores or jewelry making stuff websites for getting some matching metallic beads which you can string thru that cord and then knot it. Gives that end a finished look. You will still need a key ring to clip to the cord part for hanging your keys or charm doodads.

I cannot thank you enough for sharing this! Its important to have a trusted source who can rehab/repair beloved bags, and your positive experiences with Rago instill confidence in them for me. If you entrust your bags to them, i will definitely try them. I hesitated to say anything negative about Modern since they are the ‘go to’ for BV, but its good for folks to hear about our less then stellar experiences. Its good to know they are a back up for H bags too, although i am a fan of docride — she is working on my vintage BBK right now. So glad u shared — I am going to keep the Karung Monaco - i love the color and its lightweight and a perfect size (small rather then medium), and get a quote/send it to Rago to replace the lining. The bag looks unused on the exterior. The inside tho :( all kinds of stuff spilled into it.

Love your suggestion also for the phone cord too :) i will look for metallic beads ….and i’ve found some dark gray/black key rings on etsy, so i can try to be creative (or find a creative cobbler and give him the supplies).

Thank you for all if your input! :flowers:
