Ode to the Evelyne

I’ve decided I’d like to get a gold or graphite Evelyne (whichever comes in stock first at my local Hermes)... I’m just not sure about size. I have a 4 year old and I’m pregnant, so judging which size to get while I’m at the store trying both is tricky since my belly throws it off. I’m 5’ tall and because I’m normally petite, I feel like the PM would suit me better. However, I’m a mom of one, soon to be mom of two, so I feel like maybe having more space would be the way to go. Any input would be appreciated, especially from the moms out there.

As an aside, I know the colors I’m between are of the most popular. Are they hard to come across? I didn’t bother to ask earlier at the store, I just know they didn’t have any in stock today in those colors. TIA!

EDIT- I’m doing my research and I see it also comes in MM??? :amazed:

I prefer the 29, I'm 5' 9 1/2". The best way to tell would be to try them both and maybe load them up with a few bulky things (a sweater, a scarf) to see how they feel and look. Ultimately though, if you are planning to use it as a catch all for kids' items it will be heavier, so keep that in mind. I hope that the color and size that you decide on comes in soon!

AFAIK the Evelyne has 3 sizes, the PM, GM and TPM. There is the new style (sellier?) that has a different vibe, maybe that is MM? Hopefully someone else will know.

Question about adjustable straps.
I have several Evelynes, but they are all older...non adjustable straps. As I recall there were complaints about the first adjustable straps slipping and getting longer when carried. Then Hermes changed the design and there are even more metal parts to these straps. Can anyone comment?
I am looking at resale bag with the first design adjustable strap and this is why I ask.
Thanks!

I have one of those early adjustable straps, and while it is annoying to have the strap lengthen on its own, I find that it only slips when I have it at crossbody or long shoulder bag length and only by a few inches. From what I understand, the original straps can be adjusted much shorter than the newer adjustable straps, which is a plus for someone short like me. At the shorter length, the strap does not slip or lengthen.

PM will be perfect and I prefer clemence leather because it is softer and conforms to your body.
Good luck deciding and I hope that you are feeling well (with your pregnancy).

Hermes newbie question, does the gold Evelyne come in different leathers?

And thanks! Feeling good so far, but being that this is my second I know the discomfort is only weeks away. No complaints here though, this baby has been a long time coming.

Thank you to everyone who responded! I’m actually glad I was wrong about an MM, I as starting to feel completely confused :p I just hope the 29 will be big enough. For the moms reading this, if you used an the Evelyne 29 with the littles, did you primarily just put your things in it and need an additional bag for the rest?

I'm waiting on one, a 29. And yes, I will use an additional bag also. I have seen the 29 in Epsom and Clemence or Togo...don't recall which leather.

ETA to clarify. I wouldn't carry a juice cup or snacks in my Evelyne, things like that. Though, I suppose for short trips one could carry the essentials for babies or young children in it. Also, we have multiple epi pens that we bring with us everywhere, so we have a special bag for those. I have older children too, so that helps, they can carry a backpack with additional items in it. Or you can use a diaper bag slung on a stroller, plus the Evelyne. I think that for times when you wear a sling, the Evelyne is a great option for the shoulder.

I could be wrong but the only ones I've seen of late are in clemence. I remember seeing some in epsom but that was years ago... the recent epsom version I've seen are in TPM, which is... super tiny.

There is a new style, Evelyne Sellier, and that comes in limited colors (I've only seen noir, bleu electrique and rouge H), two sizes, 29 and 33 and two leather options (Epsom and Vache Hunter). Interestingly (i suspected this is because they're is a lot stiffer) the Sellier version looks bigger than their regular counterpart. As @rainneday said, it's a different vibe.

I think it was about a year, year and a 1/2 ago I was offered a 29 in Epsom. It was a lavender color (not Anemone, not a new purple color so it could have been older stock...I would remember the shade if I saw it. The entire time I was trying it another customer was following me around, waiting to see if i would put it down.) with GHW. I'm not big on epsom, so I passed on it. The last ones I tried were definitely a softer leather (TPM and PM).

ETA It was Iris! ( I just Googled and found an Iris with a T stamp, so 2015? I don't know if that was the last year of production for that color. This is the bag: https://www.tradesy.com/bags/hermes-hermes-hermes-evelyne-evelyne-messenger-bag-iris-10109158/ That color is so lovely.)
