Ode to the bolide

I did cave and get a burgundy bolide from AFF, which I LOVE but still in the market for a 35 (or a 31). I stalk fashionphile and AFF multiple times a day lol. I also asked my SA about a 31, and he said he hasn’t seen one in a very long time and this is in a flagship store.
Oh my! I’ve also noticed H doesn’t have a lot of Bo31 bags out there. No real celebration of the Bolide’s 100th birthday. I’m disappointed.

Same….. a lot of small ones which are very cute but not super practical. Maybe I’d find it in Paris??
Possibly the 25 maximum. I don't think they have many larger ones in stock right now.
One thing about Hermes which is kinda weird is they tend to celebrate a centenary without expecting anyone to actually want to buy a new bag?! It's like we are meant to have an old one or a few already. I am only half joking.

It’s odd there are no Bolide 31s the year 2023 of its 100th anniversary. It’s not discontinued? Prior they were always on Hermes website. So strange and disappointing no party.
Yeah, I remember when there were lots of Bolides (and Jypsieres, Garden Parties, Victoria/Plumes, etc.) on H.com. There were usually about 100 items on the US site's bag page. (Now it's almost never more than 4 and those are straps and that silly aptly named Malice bag.)

Sadly I believe that those times are over regardless of any future "supply chain" corrections.

I think we’re going to be the generation of luxury “remember when…”. Now that LV has made the Neverfull “made to order,” I can see all the luxury houses following suit. No excess inventory. Three or four month (minimum) bag wait times. Ahhhhh, I miss the good old days. Immediate gratification is in the past.:crybaby:

That may not be a bad thing though re: immediate gratification. These luxury brands should watch out though. Waiting too long could just cause a lot of consumers to have too much time to think and then decide not to get it when time comes. It’s a double edge sword. The pendulum will swing back eventually. Most people like to consume. If they can’t satiate it from one place they’ll find another that will provide.

I am a NY local, and I just got my blue rainbow 1923 bolide 30 last month at FSH. I had wanted a special bolide to commemorate 2023, and i count myself very fortunate that my top choice was available in Paris. At that time, when I returned, my local SA commented that he has not seen a blue rainbow in a very long time, but that there was one in Vegas. He checked store records and found that there were no 1923 or bolide 30/31 stock or sales for past month at Madison. In fact the only ones that received into stock and sold were all smaller. Not even a 27. He may have mentioned there was a single black box bolide 31 sold earlier in 2023. Not sure if things have changed in NY. I believe I recently saw two bolide/1923 bags on the shelves. Both maybe size 25 in mauve pale and one in a pale blue Matt alligator. Mini bolides have also been available.

Great comment! I see both sides, too. Waiting can benefit a shopper — no binge buying, waiting to see where trends are headed, time to save $$$$. But I’ve heard stories of some companies charging cancellation/stocking fees, sometimes I need a bag last minute, and sometimes I’m visiting a country and want to avoid taxes by buying bags/accessories while abroad.
I wish H had Bo31 bags available, in-store, in popular/basic colors like noir, etoupe, and gold.:girlsigh:

My SA messaged me today she has a bolide 31 black with palladium hardware. I had a bolide on my wishlist in classic colours but wanted it for work and that it could fit a laptop so thought 35 would be better.
She will save it for me until Saturday as its when I’m able to go to the boutique.
Really want a bolide to celebrate its 100 years, would be my first bolide. is it a good size (although I don’t think it would fit a laptop)? usually prefer gold hardware. Although I don’t actually own a black bag so could be a good addition. Anyone has this bag and absolutely loves it?
