Yes, will be interesting to hear about the corners with Epsom not Box.
I have Kelly 25s in Epsom and I have no problems but I do not bash my bags or the corners about. Epsom is an excellent leather for Selliers as it is stiff and very good at holding the structure. I find mine goes through rain with zero issues and it takes colour well and tends to be more saturated, so in Black, it will be nice and deep. To me it is carefree and makes a Sellier Kelly a little more informal. I like both Epsom and Box although they are very different leathers. HTH!

Thank you for your feedback! I’ve heard epsom is pretty sturdy against water. Good to know you haven’t had any issues with corners

Hi everyone,
I need you advice, help, opinion :confused1:

I am thinking of adding a kelly 25 sellier to my collection.
I am normally a total Birkin lover.
Years ago I had a kelly 25 retourne and I ended up selling it because I did not liked when I carry it open for some seconds that the bag was stretched out so wide that almost everything fall out.
I did not like to open and close it the completely, that was annoying to me. Anyway, I love the look of the sellier because of the structure and I would prefer PHW to add a cool vibe, GHW would be too chic for me.

My questions are:
Is it hard to open and close?
What are your opinions on it?
Will the top handle fall down after time? I heard about that.. :(
And I saw that from the top flap (that closes the bag) the edges where not flat anymore, they were more kinked up when people don't close the bag completely, I hope you understand what I mean.. Is this true?
When I carry it open, do you have easy access or is it hard because of the structure?

I would love to add one, I really love the look and the a bag which I can hang on my shoulder, but I am scared that its impractical in using :(

I would be very thankful for your experiences and opinions :flowers:

Well, if you didn’t like opening and closing a retourné, a sellier is harder.
None of mine have handles doing anything weird - not sure what “falling down” means, but the handles are like all Kelly handles, standing straight unless you push them.
If you carry and store the bag with the sangles under the flap, yes the flap will start to lift up.
Carrying the bag open with any real weight inside will also have some impact on structure.

personally I love 25 cm sellier, to me it’s one of the most beautiful of all H bags. I wouldn’t call it impractical but it’s not the easiest of bags. Still worth it IMO.

Dear QuelleFromage,
thank you so so much for sharing your experience and your opinion!! Thank you for taking the time to answer all of my questions :flowers: This is very helpful!
With "falling down" I meant if the handle is moving and not standing straight anymore, but you answered this already.
Thank you so so much :flowers:
The bag has a special look, it is gorgeous of course! I love the look so much but need to think if I will be happy using it, I don't like to buy things and sell them again, that's why I think a lot more before I buy something.
If someone else wants to tell his/her opinion of course share them :)
Thank you QuelleFromage !!!!

I love the look of a sellier kelly 25. It is simply gorgeous. However, it is not the easiest to use and you can’t carry much in it although it looks quite big. I have totally disliked it at one point of my life - very stiff, hard to open and close, corners can be quite hard/sharp.

Whether it is practical for you depends on how you intend to use the bag and how much you need to carry around. For example, when I think of ‘practical bags’ I think of lindy, garden party, picotin in a fuss free color and I can stuff a small water bottle, brolly, my son’s snacks etc. and not worry abt the bag taking damage from my daily errands.

To me, the aesthetics and function of a kelly vs birkin are totally different. B25 also holds much more than K25. Like you, I like the easy access of a birkin and will carry it everywhere if I can but I will not use a birkin for certain occasions.

For epsom, the leather is very stiff at first but it will soften a little and also, you’ll get used to opening and closing the flap if you really want to make using this bag work. Please don’t carry it ‘open’ as a regular thing. It is not safe and not meant to be carried open. I read in this forum this will damage the bag over time. To me, a kelly is totally secure and so I use it when I need a bag that can be closed and has a shoulder strap.

Not sure what you mean by ‘falling handle’. I think of Swift kellys here. I’ve seen some slouchy Swift kellys where the handle seem to be ‘falling’ over due to its weight. This won’t happen with an epsom kelly.

No problem at all! I hope it helps! I agonize from time to time over these lovely bags and I’m thankful for all the lovely ladies here who share their helpful guidance and experience with me :)

I sold my first sellier k25 cos I really disliked the color, plus I wasn’t used to such a structured bag and the stiffness really added to the annoyance of opening and closing the bag - it did fit all my daily essentials and I got many compliments. It just wasn’t the color for me. I still love the elegance and understated beauty of a sellier kelly so I got myself another one in a color I adore and got much more use out of it.

Yes, an Epsom 25 sellier is difficult to open and close. But it will soften and you will get used to it, although it takes some breaking in, both for you and the bag. I find a size 28 is much more practical and easy to use, and my 32 is the easiest to open. The handle, as you have already learned, should not be mobile, and should remain quite sturdy unless abused. You can carry your bag open if you don’t carry much inside. This makes it much more accessible. However, with time, this can damage the structure. You can also simply fasten the touret without the sangles. It becomes much easier with practice. Also, I recommend lifting the flap from the center rather than the corner in order to avoid warping. The stiffness of the flap in a sellier does make it a bit inconvenient, but the flap is also what enables it to be more practical, with a single top handle, shoulder strap, and complete closure rather than open tote. I find I enjoy the fact that I don’t have to secure the flap every time I open my bag, unlike the retourne.

Dear gettingpurseonal,
thank you so much for taking time to reply and for your help.
I think I wait a little bit with my purchase, at the moment I am really unsure if I would be that happy with the stiffness and the "harder" opening :( and I am scared then I will regret it after time.
I really love the look of a sellier, so cool and edgy, I would not pick ghw because I think this is to chic for the "look" I want to create and have.
It would be for winter to have a different bag then a Birkin and give a different vibe to my big coats I wear.
I don't carry much, only essentials, cardholder, keys, phone and maybe one lipstick. I am pretty sure with the size 25. I am not a big bag person at all in any kind of way. But the using is really what make me skeptical.
Thats why I am super thankful for all of your help and honest opinion.
I will definitely tell about my decision, but for now I tend to a no :(
Thank you so so much :flowers:
