Ode to Hermes Poncho

I'll probably get stoned by the masses for saying this but Burberry is soooo easily faked (at least the pattern is like everywhere) and way too common looking. I'd rather have no name brand than be on a "list" for anything Burberry. Sorry. I rarely rant...

ITA about the Nova check, but the other offerings are quite nice. I have a Burberry blanket coat from two years ago that I love, and one would never guess It was a Burberry.

Off-topic just for another nanosecond, promise: I got the Burberry monogrammed colorblock wrap back when it first became available after the runway show (February 2013!) and its blocks of camel, burgundy, teal, etc. make it versatile, so i do like it. . . BUT, the original "classic" check was hugely over-exposed for a decade, put on literally EVERYTHING (purses, bikinis, dog carriers!) and I agree, IF, I was never a fan either. I think that's why the current reinvention of Burberry is relying much less on that pattern.
Overall, Hermes colors and designs seem to stand the test of time much better than most. I just hope the current upheavals in inventory and quality will smooth out as their rapid global expansion moderates. . . .

We are on the same page, I think the colorblock poncho is wonderful, but I do worry that it is so attributable to a particular season, now that it crops up on a celebrity every other day.
I do like the reinvention of the brand, although I think the quality has deteriorated. However, I'm afraid that is true for all brands.

Ladies, I have one question. Do you ladies plan to wear the poncho instead of a coat, or you plan to wear it on top of a coat? I am browsing Burberry website and their stock photos are all showing the models wearing ponchos on top of their trench coat.

The Burberry ponchos are lighter than the Rocabar, and therefore lend themselves better to draping over a coat, but I don't see myself ever draping it over a coat.
I wear the Burberry when I want something more refined, like over a dress for church or brunch. The Rocabar is strictly a casual piece, IMO.

OMGGGG, Monceau!!! You look HOT! So fantastic and actually, very sexy in your Rocabar Poncho! You totally rock that thing, girl!!
Quick question, it looks like a lovely burgundy in your pic. Is is really that deep of a color or more traditional red? I don't really do fire engine or lipstick reds but burgundy and earthy reds...oh yes!! So lovely!

Merci, dear Twinnie!

Oh gosh, you're making me blush! Thank you!
I need to take some photos in better light, but this is pretty true to color, it's a bit more vibrant than you can see in this photo.
The color is more Rouge H / russet, it's a warm, rich, fall red. Much like the red of fall leaves.

Monceau, you look wonderful. And I agree, the colorblock Burberry has taken off, so it will be "so 2014" next year. Sigh. But mine has my initials on it, so I can't resell it. If nothing else, I will wear it with the tacit message, "Hey, I was an early jumper on the bandwagon"! :p

OMG Monceau you look ammmaaaazzziiiinnnggg!!!!!! What on earth were you talking about at the beginning of the thread this was made for you honey! I have no doubt you managed to talk your DBF back into it!

And ITA agree with you about the Burberry - you hit the nail on the head about it being so seasonally identifiable and anther reason why I went with H since this wasn't part of any RTW season but the sellier...

I can imagine that the initials make it even more special though! I'm sorry if I missed it in the last few pages and am asking repetitively, but did you get your Rocabar? I was hanging out got your reveal since your initial post was beyond hilarious...

FYI - For those that are interested or on the fence about the Burberry vs. the H poncho, there is a SCARF version of the Burberry Colour Block Poncho and it is much cheaper. It offers the same colors and pretty much gives the same look as the poncho but for only $295. It can't be monogrammed (but any seamstress worth his/her salt could probably add initials to it as well)!

Considering getting one myself at this price point. Now, back to topic!! :)

Yup, I ended up with the mustard (officially, the "Paille") Rocabar! I honestly don't know if it suits me, but it is a lovely color. Haven't modeled it for DH yet. I fear he will be one of those men who doesn't "get" the poncho. :p

Thanks for this- (sorry for off topic)- is there more than one colorblock Burberry poncho? I was able to put the poncho in my cart on their website without sirens going off saying unavailable.
