You guys are cracking me up!! I'm on my way down to the store soon, in order to try on the blue Rocabar poncho. I wish I could take you all with me so you could give me a thumbs up or thumbs down. I showed a picture to my husband, and all he could come up with was..."where would you wear that?!"

The Man Repeller is so right: Men don't "get" ponchos.

Hilarious. I tried one on at St. John, dh said, heeelllllooooograndma! To be fair, he just bought his mother one and she is on the bigger side, so he associates poncho with Mumu/kaftan and other similar cuts

Tried the h version, looked like a grape. While I was laughing at myself, heard the SA behind me laughing too.

Too short to join you ladies, but you all look so good!

I was in Sloane Street H today and it was incredibly quiet for a Saturday.
I had a fabulously helpful assistant whose taste I trusted and had her show me all the colours in both styles , or as many as they had.
We agreed the Rouge H is the best colour for me , they had the Alamo but no Rocabar ,so I am going to (try) buy it online in exchange for Paille.
She pointed out the difference in weight and texture between the 2 styles : the Rocabar is heavy and like the softest blanket whereas the Alamo is much finer and a little more drapey . Both have the same composition 10% Cashmere 90% Wool , but the Alamo gives a feel of pure cashmere IIMO
I think the 2 styles give quite different vibes
Rocabar more boho and Alamo more sophisticated . The Rouge H Alamo was stunning as Lilith has shown , anyone thinking of a second poncho may want to consider how Alamo can look more svelte and polished .
No shades of graduation day either !

I can imagine how great the Paille is on you, but I can't fault you for exchanging for the Rouge H. That one must be downright magical on you. That colorway is very elegant, the way the Rocabar stripes are gradations of the rouge base. I have my eye on that cw too and I have no doubt that your modeling shots (please post modeling shots!) will not encourage my restraint. :hugs:

Great thread and congrats on your fantastic poncho, IF - eveyone's looking super in all the various colors! :woohoo:

I had the Prussian Blue Rocabar briefly last winter. It's wonderfully soft, the tassels enchanting! But it's more boho than I am, not very practical climate-wise and sadly barenia and orange are not great on me at all. But I found two archive pics that might be useful to those trying to decide if the blue is worth waiting for.

(Bolide is Brighton Blue, Texas 90 silk from my mom)

Happy hunting to you all!

Pierina, I don't think you've ever posted a photo that didn't make me want every single thing you were wearing in it, and this is no exception! I am definitely not boho either, however, so I can understand your hesitation about anything that tilts that way, although I think you're the sort of person whose entire aspect and manner is more than capable of un-boho-ing even the most boho of items. :smile1:

first showing seatbelt is fine...

You look terrific in this-- the color suits you perfectly! Is it strange that the seatbelt tableaux are my favorite parts of your Rocabar photo essay? The tassel is just so fabulous.

The Man Repeller is so right: Men don't "get" ponchos.

You know, I dragged mine into the H store after trying on the Alamo twice with fellow TPFers. I was convinced that he would take one look, wrinkle his nose, and declare the thing revolting-- he hates anything that's not tailored and fitted and feminine in a classic hourglass way. I assumed his disdain would be so palpable it'd talk me out of the poncho completely-- whew, money saved. And then he loved it. As has been said in this thread, in person these things really do have movement that makes them look like something more than a tent of fabric. He declared it "elegant." I almost passed out from shock! Then when I was sad because I had left that one behind overseas with the intention of buying it from my SA in the US, who didn't have it, he took off work to march back into that store on his own to get it for me-- not his MO at all! Apparently ponchos can affect men strongly, whether with distaste or admiration.

calexandre, all hail your man for his perspicacity and motivation! THAT fellow is a keeper! I really hope my DH finds me "elegant" in mine. I have scant hope, as I have never achieved elegance in all my years on this planet, but you never know. If I can't rise to elegance I will settle for boho cozy.
What color did you choose?

doloresmia, you are not alone! I am way too short to wear this poncho, and I don't have broad shoulders, either. I would look horrible in it IMO. The Alamo poncho might be a different story.

Loving the pics and the posts on this thread. Poncho mania reigns here on TPF.

Mindi, I like your idea of nude H bag modeling. Inspirational! :hugs:

Just got back from H, and I pulled the trigger on cw#04 (anthracite)...IT IS STUNNING:love:!!! I thought I was going in to try on the blue cw, but this is the one they had and it is unbelievably gorgeous! It's a very yummy blend of dark grey, navy, and a subdued burnt orange (but very subdued). I'm dying to take photos for you all, but I want to wait until tomorrow when my husband and daughter aren't around to declare that mommy has lost her mind because she's taking pictures of herself! Oh, and for the record, the colors of this poncho are not at all as they appear on H.com (which reads almost purple, not grey). IN LOVE, and it's all Israeli_flava's fault!

VigeeLeBrun, I really thought this would not be my style either, but it ended up being a match made in Heaven! I am a girl who loves very simple, classic clothing. The Row and Celine (with a little JCrew thrown in for good measure) are my go-to lines. I don't like any fuss on my clothes....all clean lines, boring old classic colors. But as soon as I put this on in the store (I was wearing black skinny Frame denim jeans, Celine chelsea boots, and a navy cashmere Equipment sweater) it all fell into place. Definitely worth a trip to H for you to see if either Rocabar or Alamo works for you. Personally, I think you would look amazing with either, wearing skinny jeans, riding boots, etc.

Oh, HfromT! So happy for you (and for me) since I am obsessing over this cw too! I am a classic dresser as well and can't wait to see your modeling pics. I am sure they are gonna be fantastic! Please take and post as soon as you can. Congrats and enjoy!!

Many congrats on the anthracite poncho, HfromT. I tried it last week in Madrid, they had yours, a dark navy and a beautiful gold... well, I don't know if it was because all those years living in Argentina that I felt as if there was only the guitar left! I can't wait to see your IA pictures.

HfromT, Maybe it's for me, maybe not but I should probably at least give it a chance, right? I think that the Alamo poncho is probably my best bet. Love all the modeling pics, ladies!

I promise to take some photos and post them tomorrow, MarvelGirl. Hopefully they won't disappoint though, as I'm terrible at photos and we don't have any full-length mirrors in the house, but I shall try my best!
