That very sensible thought has many reasons to commend itself.
There are a lot of well-cared-for examples of box around once you keep your eyes open for them.
I have started looking for vintage Kelly in box. Collectors Square has some that seems in very good condition despite being several decades old. Do you have experience with Collectors Square?

I am familiar with Collectors Square, have looked but never bought.
Prices seem reasonable and it does have some older examples.
I caught it out on an 'expert opinion' once: amazonia was described as barenia; incompetentance rather than intention to deceive.
If you can get to Paris there is a physical shop.

Well here you go. It’s definitely not slouchy. @fdc
I just found the photos of your gorgeous box Kelly again, Periogirl. It is absolutely beautiful. I have begun searching for a vintage Kelly in box in a dark blue. I have also talked with my SA about the possibility of being offered a Kelly in box and of course he can make no promises. So a vintage seems like the best way to go if I can find one in good condition and for a reasonable price.

Because new box items quite uncommon these days
is there a little story about how it came to be available in store?

I guess I'm the lucky one, my SA told me that this is only one box leather Birkin came to the store this year. I'm in a city where small bags are highly demanded, people are willing to make their file much stronger to get b25 and k25s. my SA is one of the most generous person I have ever met. she offered several b25 and k25s in togo/epsom/swift , but I was looking for something special, and I didn't mind about waiting. she was surprised I turned town those offers. a couple weeks after rejecting those bags, she told me that there's new shipment came, and it's her turn to choose first. she knew I'm a fan of heritage leathers, and she scored it for me .

well apparently heritage leathered bags such as fauve barenia/ box are still available , its just they are very rare to see these days. I have heard these bags are "push orders" ( I don't even know what that means honestly ), and SA/store manager cannot order them, they were sent randomly from Paris to each store randomly. its like mysterious packages. I have also got a fauve Barenia Birkin last year, and I waited about 3 years for it .

Thank you for sharing the story. And fauve barenia too! You must be a very much valued and trusted (i.e. not to supply immediately to a reseller for a quick buck) client.

I was lucky enough at the beginning of the year to find a preloved box Kelly in a dark blue. I almost did not buy it. I am sooo glad that I did
