Wow! Just salivating over here. Is she new? Love love love the olive and gold. If you have time, please take some more pictures of your beauty. Congratulations and Biscuit says Merry Christmas back!

Thank you and apologies for belated reply, we had very sad news in the family. I try to take some pics shortly!

I have a question or two for those of you lucky enough to own a barenia Kelly: Do any of you use it as an everyday bag? And, do you ever feel like a Kelly in this leather, wonderful as it is, isn't quite dressy enough? I'm in the market for a casual Kelly, but I wonder if the look of barenia is too casual for the "pretty" look of the Kelly, if barenia might be better suited to the Birkin. (The Birkin doesn't work for me, so it's either go Kelly or go home on this one.)

I love the Kelly, and I love the look of Barenia, just trying to work out how I feel about the two together, KWIM?

Also, how dark will a barenia bag get over time? My one and only Barenia item is a watch strap, and it is DARK brown at this point. Will a bag darken this much?

Thanks for indulging my questions!

Hello, catsinthebag, I too only have a Barenia watch strap, so I can't offer much practical advice. But I love the idea of a Kelly in Barenia! I wonder if one has to choose either Sellier or Retourne, or if both options would be available. I look forward to reading the replies, of those more well versed in Barenia!

I think a barenia Kelly is a more casual bag. It makes me think of horses and the country:smile1: I think barenia Kelly is a luxe chic sporty look. Love it! My barenia bags have not darkened too much. Perhaps the contact with your skin oils has darkened it?

Barenia is a beautiful leather, and looks gorgeous in a K or a B, but it will darken, get spots, scratches, etc. Just the nature of the leather, as they say. I think it is a great, super cool-casual, look. It will take on a somewhat distressed appearance, at least more than some other leathers.
If you want something that will transition to dressy, barenia is probably not the leather. I have a Ebene barenia and toile kelly and it is one of my favorite bags, but the barenia definitely has that lived-in look. If you are looking at fauve barenia, it will show spots and darkening more than ebene, and the darkening does not all happen evenly. Again, this is normal and part of the cool and casual feel of the leather.

I'm not sure I would use a barenia bag everyday. I leave box and barenia home on rainy days and grab togo, clemence or buffle skipper, which is super impervious to bad weather.

Perhaps some additional thoughts. I need a "new" (pre-loved is fine) everyday bag. Birkin 35 is great for me. I was thinking Barenia, love the color, the casual vibe, and thought that if I bought preloved than I would not get upset when she received an injury. But now, am not so sure.........I do not change my bags on a weekly basis, and my entire family is always going in and out of my stuff......not limited to handbags............ GRRRRRRRR....any thoughts? I need easy access 'cause I never find my phone, or my keys, etc.........but yet I usually keep "her" in the back seat of the car so that if I come to a sudden stop everything still manages to be contained............. help! Noted, this is not one of life's major events here..............but Valentine's Day is approaching, and I believe a holiday should not go to waste........

Well, if I get one, it will be pre-loved, and I prefer retourne, especially in this very casual leather. I'm not even going to try to get a new one -- somehow with box and barenia, I think I'll be more comfortable with some patina already in place!

Yes, I think my watch strap got so dark because I was touching it all the time (and it did take a couple of years for that darkness to fully set in). Can you tell me, do you wear your barenia bags as everyday bags? Do you worry about water drops and scratches, or just use it, figuring the patina will even it out over time?

Hi Monceau, thanks for chiming in! I am indeed thinking of fauve barenia. I don't wear my box bag in the rain either, but was hoping that barenia was casual and tough enough to help me get past that particular hang-up! I can handle patina, and rain drops if they dry and go away, but the unevenness may bother me. Trying to suss this out before spending a bunch of money. I like Togo and Clemence just fine on my GPs and Evelyne, but was hoping to find a smooth but durable leather for my next Kelly. Not sure if barenia is that leather or not... thanks for your input, it is helpful!

Sounds like you and I are in a similar dilemna here -- I'm thinking, pre-loved barenia could be very cool and worry-free since it's already patina'd so some dings wouldn't bother me. I think. But I'm not sure. And not sure how to know without trying it out. I do know I couldn't do new barenia -- it scratches and marks every time you practically breathe on it!

This doesn't help with your question of whether to go with barenia or not, but if the back seat of the car with a sudden stop causes things to go flying, how about a Victoria? Easy access but you can zip it shut when you need to. Just thinking' ...
