Hi all!

I'd posted the below in the H shopping subforum, and was directed here instead. This is a re/cross-post, but please let me know if this isn't the correct place in which case I'll delete it (I'm new here and am trying to follow the rules!).

I have been looking for a 35 Fauve Barenia (smooth) Leather B GHW and heard from Prive Porter for $22k (incl. taxes/fees/shipping) for a brand new/full set (super excited about the smell and patina-ing). I’ve done some searching on the forum and it seems that there aren’t many recent prices noted for this specific spec (BF leather and PHW seems more common in this forum), though a 2019 thread noted that someone felt like $18k for a PHW was worth it and that retail might be around $13-14k for those specs (https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/what-is-a-fair-price-for-resale-barenia-birkin-35.1017408/).

Is $22k sky high and I should consider other options? I know a part of $ considerations strongly depend on how much it’s worth to me (which I'm evaluating with my financial situation), but given that no Barenia seems to have passed the $20k threshold (on the information in this forum) I’m a bit hesitant and would appreciate advice.
I purchased my Barenia B35 (PHW) in 2017 and it was $13,100 plus tax, so almost $14,400, and the price has gone up I believe twice since then. You'll be well over $15K at retail.
So the question is really...are you open to resale? At resale the price will be a LOT less especially for a 35, but the bag won't be perfect.
Now as a Barenia owner I'm going to tell you that your bag won't be perfect more than a few minutes anyway :) It will get marks.
So that's your call.

Barenia being push offer only, it's HARD to find this bag. Even so, personally I think $22K is pushing it. I would negotiate. I would also do a search in the forum on this particular reseller, who has been quite vocal and active here and has made some strong statements. But, again, it's how much you want a brand new bag, and whether you are willing to wait.
Also keep in mind that there are Barenia superfakes out there, using real Barenia. So at this price at resale you need to have a guarantee that if H spa finds your bag inauthentic one day, you have recourse.

This is a wonderful bag and one of my absolute favorites, so good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate the thoughts and am definitely open to resale but have been struggling to find a resale of smooth Barenia... the particular reseller ended up having BF rather than smooth Barenia anyways, but I'll do some searching on them.

Hi, JMO, but if you are comfortable on the reseller market (making sure it’s authenticated by either authentication thread or other), I personally think 22K is quite high for smooth traditional barenia. Another TPFer pointed out and I agree that the prices for 35s are coming down quickly and docride can always give you and opinion on how to resurrect barenia yourself or she will recondition it for you (she develops the patina which is what I personally prefer). I have also used H spa Extensively in the past , but it’s pricy and takes much longer. it seems like currently TPF members want their barenia to remain relatively pristine which is quite difficult to maintain. Barenia was one of the original saddle leathers and the marks eventually resolve into a prized, aged patina. This is one reason why buying vintage barenia is appealing in the first place.
Thanks for the information, definitely more to consider here!

My Hermes plan got derailed this week when I came across this Ebene Barenia and I needed to have her join her sisters. My noir and natural are my most used bags and I'm so excited to have this in the rotation. My noir has brushed PHW and reads dark gray at times too. I love the natural in the fall in particular. And the Ebene color is just awesome. Perfect brown IMO though my photo taking skills probably don't capture it well. Someday Indigo I hope, but so happy now. View attachment 4620342
I think this is my holy trinity! they are perfection!
