I have a B35 Barenia Faunourg and after tax I believe the bag was over $14,000. I have a long established relationship and have purchased a ton of other items regularly. If this is your perfect dream bag and you’re comfortable with the price, I say get it. You may find a better deal in 6 months or a year, or maybe not. I say go for it if it’s EXACTLY what you want.
Thanks for this color! I'm definitely mulling it over still (I asked for some more information on the B35 from the seller and am waiting to hear back), but truly appreciate your response!

Smooth Barenia is a push offer and very few are made. If you don't know, push offer means a store cannot order this bag and Hermes sends them to stores randomly. It is VERY difficult to come by, I've been asking for 5 years and have favorable standing with my store. GHW is more sought after than PHW (although I favor PHW). Therefore, this combo will ask for a high resale price, especially brand new. Retail is about $14k+ just for the bag (not including taxes). You would need to be an established client and spend much more than the 8K differential to be offered such in a store, should they get one.

If this is your holy grail bag and your financial situation allows, then you may want to consider this a fair price....you might have to wait for a similar one to come through again. With that said, if you didn't love the bag after some wear and tear, the bag likely will not command such a high resale used. Higher than most used Birkins, yes, but not $22k worth....just something to keep in mind.

I personally would not pay $22k for it and would wait it out with my store...thrill of the hunt kinda thing and I look at it as "if it were meant to be" situation. I just purchased a Barenia Faubourg Birkin from my store and love it. only time will tell if I still covet smooth Barenia.

HTH...keep us posted and good luck deciding!
I'm not in the market right now (well I would be, except I haven't seen a barenia anything come for sale in my neck of the woods in forever) but I find this so useful - thank you!!

Thanks so much for all this useful information and for your thoughts! I definitely didn't know all this information, and appreciate the time you took to give me context I was missing. I've asked for more details on the exact bag (since its resale) and haven't yet committed, but will definitely post if I get it!
As an update, it turns out it was BF and not smooth Barenia, so the search continues!

Hi all!

I'd posted the below in the H shopping subforum, and was directed here instead. This is a re/cross-post, but please let me know if this isn't the correct place in which case I'll delete it (I'm new here and am trying to follow the rules!).

I have been looking for a 35 Fauve Barenia (smooth) Leather B GHW and heard from Prive Porter for $22k (incl. taxes/fees/shipping) for a brand new/full set (super excited about the smell and patina-ing). I’ve done some searching on the forum and it seems that there aren’t many recent prices noted for this specific spec (BF leather and PHW seems more common in this forum), though a 2019 thread noted that someone felt like $18k for a PHW was worth it and that retail might be around $13-14k for those specs (https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/what-is-a-fair-price-for-resale-barenia-birkin-35.1017408/).

Is $22k sky high and I should consider other options? I know a part of $ considerations strongly depend on how much it’s worth to me (which I'm evaluating with my financial situation), but given that no Barenia seems to have passed the $20k threshold (on the information in this forum) I’m a bit hesitant and would appreciate advice.
Hi, JMO, but if you are comfortable on the reseller market (making sure it’s authenticated by either authentication thread or other), I personally think 22K is quite high for smooth traditional barenia. Another TPFer pointed out and I agree that the prices for 35s are coming down quickly and @docride can always give you and opinion on how to resurrect barenia yourself or she will recondition it for you (she develops the patina which is what I personally prefer). I have also used H spa Extensively in the past , but it’s pricy and takes much longer. it seems like currently TPF members want their barenia to remain relatively pristine which is quite difficult to maintain. Barenia was one of the original saddle leathers and the marks eventually resolve into a prized, aged patina. This is one reason why buying vintage barenia is appealing in the first place.
