I know and agree Lady-Penelope, they are out-sourced help .. but cute that they tried to 'educate'.

LOL! Yeah, that was cute! I found them so sweet, how they'd give the hesitant shoppers advice on which bags were classics and which colours best suited people. :)

Btw, I will post a more detailed report once I get home, I'm writing on my phone and it's a pain!

I was in line at 10 am got in at 11 am...

Whatever, its not the end of the world, but I know how long it took me to get the invite to the 10am part of the sale that I thought was exclusive

If you had a 10 am invite, you would not have had to wait in line. The security guy kept asking if anyone had a 10 am invite and all those who did just went in.

Wow ladies you got some amazing deals! I decided to go the sale impulsively today. If I had planned in advance I would have gotten there earlier. I arrived about 2pm -- 2 hour wait:cry:, made it in about 4 and left after 6 pm. There was tons of stuff! I was disappointed that I didn't see any click clacks but there were many other enamels. Lots of leather bags but no Bolides and only a few Constances left when I was there. ... and there was a long line to pay, but still a lot of fun!

I got a scarf La Danse du Cheval Marwari in yellow (same as Restricter) price $225 vs. $375 retail, a red box leather bracelet price $324 vs $550 retail and a small toile and leather garden party tote price $457.50 vs retail $1,525.

I can tell you the sales people were not usual Hermes staff, they certainly didn't know much beyond the basics on the merchandise. The ladies at the bag counter were Russian and Greek and super friendly, but I wouldn't have relied on them for Hermes expertise. ;)

I noticed this soon as I got to the bags. I asked if there were more Constance and the guy went :confused1:, lol. I pointed to the one that was directly behind him (it was a suede one, hence my reason of asking for more) and only then he knew what I meant.

Anyhoo, I'm finally back from my first experience of H sale at Met Pav. I ended up waiting a bit over 2 hrs to get in, looked & grabbed stuffs for 20 minutes and then stood on the line again for an hour to pay. I was so worried what if there's nothing I'd like, while waiting to get in but once I was in, I was glad I went. They had lots of bags, both leather & canvas and I thought pretty fair selection of SLGs, although I did not see a single Bearn. If you like ostrich, they had good amount of planners in various colors as well.

I guess most of the "good" silks must have been gone by the time I got in because they had basically nothing the other ladies got earlier. Not a single cashmere shawl either.

However, for those who were planning to go tomorrow and so on, they said the stock would be replenished, so don't give up your hope! One of the security guys told us they are getting new shipment tomorrow and they have to keep replenishing the stock or there would be nothing left to sell for those who come later.

I kinda planned to go again tomorrow, when I heard about new shipment while waiting on the line. But not only I'm totally beat from all the standing done today, I pretty much got everything (and more!) than I wanted, so that's it for me. I wish good luck to all tPFers who are going later in the week!:woohoo:

Baglady1973, what exactly does this mean?

"It was a bunch of middle aged looking housewives in khaki pants and "comfortable shoes" and not the usual Hermes looking customer."

The most wealthy people that I know are typically the most understated. Judging a book by its cover seems foolish in my opinion. These women had the right to be there as much as you - they were invited - and it's a SALE. If you want a guarantee that you'll get a shawl, you should visit a boutique.

I am happy to see that I was not the only person totally annoyed by the HOARDING that was going on.

I was in line at 10 am got in at 11 am and there was a troop of women who were circling the event like hawks and then they would convene in the center of the sale by shoes and trade around. One of them had a huge list of scarves and items that she was looking for for clients - she was a reseller (hello if anyone from H corporate is reading this) = and the rest of the troop members kept looking to her for approval for the items that they were thinking of buying. It was a bunch of middle aged looking housewives in khaki pants and "comfortable shoes" and not the usual Hermes looking customer. She is also a taste arbiter for a lot of women, including some of the others you mention, some of whom have been collecting scarves for longer than I have been alive. (I am 42 lol)

Whatever, its not the end of the world, but I know how long it took me to get the invite to the 10am part of the sale that I thought was exclusive and to see this sort of activity at a sale - especially a reseller there (there were more than one - the woman who owns the consignment store down the block was there too and she is another HOARDER) its just annoying.

I got what I wanted though - sans a shawl. At somepoint I will just go to the store and buy the one that i really want to stop aggravating myself with this sale.

Hi Baglady1973,

I know the woman in Khaki and some of the other women that you refer to in your post above. She is a well known customer at H boutique and she is friendly with H corporate; a respected tpfer whom other tpfers go to for questions on scarves; she is also a collector; and I know that the list that you refer to is basically for the sole benefit of other clients and friends (whom I also know) who are not fortunate enough to make it into the private sale. I am aware from both sides, namely those who give her their "wish lists" and her that there is no surcharge for her efforts on their behalf.

To be clear, I was not one of the ladies (these ladies are also clients and boutique shoppers) helping her because I had my own smaller list of items to search for others here over in leather bags. Had I been fortunate enough to find the items on the lists of my friends - namely a Paris bombay 40 and a good news bag and some recent scarves - I too would have picked these items up and sent them off without making any money on the transaction. (And since there was a limit per person on bags, I would have made arrangements with one or more other friends to help me fulfill their wishes.

I do not mean to butt into a situation that does not directly concern me and
I am truly sorry that you were not able to get the GM c/s you wanted. I do understand the aggravation of missing a fabulous piece and I wish you the best of luck next sale.

Mods, please feel free to delete this post and/or PM me if anything is improper. Apologies for being OT

P.S. The women that I refer to in my post are not affiliated with the woman who owns the consignment store down the block that you also mention. (I have no idea who the consignment shop woman is)

Full disclosure: i am not affiliated with any of the people that I refer to in my post other than through love of Hermes.

baglady1973, I think perhaps you are making assumptions - for example a friend of mine was there and very kindly picked up a scarf for me because I could not make it to the sale - and she is NOT a reseller.
Plus, I dont know what you think the typical Hermes customer wears, but if I had been able to make it to the sale, I would definitely have chosen the comfy option!

Perhaps, we should all be pleased that we had the opportunity to shop the sale. We all know that power shopping can be exhausting and that sometimes in the anticipation and frenzy of the sale, the lines and the crowds make us all a tad cranky. I am sure no one meant to insult anyone personally. There were many international, cultural, societal, and religious groups represented at the sale, thus proving that there is no Typical Hermes Customer.
I am fairly new and don't want to offend the other members, but I would like to continue to view TPF as a wonderfully informative and friendly community.

Restricter -- love that violet plume!
Capulet -- love your pink scarfs so pretty!

Also perfumes, gift sets are a great deal 75% off! I got a small bottle of 24, Faubourg eau de parfum for $21.25 vs retail of $85!

I had so much fun with Capulet today! She's the one who scored the big haul. I kept putting things in my bag I thought I might like, but decided there was nothing I really had to have - no H for me today!!

Capulet - Thanks for joining me today. I'm very happy you found the beautiful things and please enjoy them all in good health!!

Thank you, dear HNN! It takes a lot of restraint to get up before dawn, wait in line for two hours, go through all those goodies, and not buy anything. But it's good to hold out for things you really love. Thank you for going into town with me and sharing my joy in my haul!

Congrats to everyone on your sale goodies!!! :yahoo:

And cheers to those who were sweet enough to take the time to shop for those who couldn't make it.

If I was lucky enough to ever go to the NY sale I would just enjoy the excitement and fun! You cannot imagine how much I would have loved to be there and gotten one of those Garden Parties. How awesome!
