Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

The Coach brand cannot be transformed magically by a new CA to a Chanel level brand. It is just not possible for a company of this size to do that as it would mean abandoning their core market. It is a public company with shareholders so that is very unlikely in my opinion.

That said, perhaps it is possible to fully integrate it into a lifestyle brand like Ralph Lauren where there are multiple levels of the core brand. RL has a luxury label plus a mainstream label with clothing and accessories at every price point. Even then, though, RL is not on par with Chanel or even Gucci or Fendi in terms of brand cache.

I think a more likely scenario is a model similar to Michael Kors.

My 2 cents... :p

 Exactly!

Definitely. Coach bags are not worth 1K. I've had my first bag for 3 years and the "C" on the edges has worn out. Still love the bag.. I always get compliments!

The one I bought December of last year, the stitching has come off of the zipper tag after 6 months. Coach wants $20 to fix that. Wow! I would def not pay 1K for this.

Maybe it's just me, but the bag I bought 3 years ago is sturdier than the one I bought last year!
I always get compliments, but I wish I didn't have to baby it so much!

I do love the new feel of the outlet. The styles IMO are much nicer than they used to be!

Quality has become such an issue with a LOT of designers, sadly that I don't think we purse lovers will ever get away from it. I have bags from a variety of brands and the older ones are definitely more sturdy (older as in purchased around 2006 lol).

Very true.. I'm heard horror stories all around. It's sad to see that happen! :(

My mom has a LV that she bought 25 years ago and that purse is much studier than anything I have! It still looks absolutely gorgeous!

Apparently some of the outlets are selling FP bags (not deletes) at FP prices. I guess for those closer to outlets than boutiques who don't want to purchase sight unseen, it makes sense?

I think that makes sense. I never understood why the outlet would accept a FP return, refund the customer the full amount, then automatically cut the price by 50%. Just because they were an outlet location. Although, I can see quite a few people arguing about paying full retail for a bag at the outlet. Will probably be a headache for the SA's who have to explain why this bag is so much more than that bag.

Yeah, and people could have worked in teams to scam that system. Buy FP, return to outlet, friend immediately buys FP return at outlet price.

Sounds like new and additional selling locations are part of the new strategy. Coach can stock current FP items in their existing outlets without having to lease additional square footage as if opening another store; Zappos is a website so no storefront real estate expenses there. This puts bags in more real and virtual doors (thereby increasing sales) with minimal increased costs of servicing these new locations. Plus if they slow down the delete cycle and send fewer deletes to outlets, they'll need something to fill in those shelves where deletes used to be. Icing on the cupcake: Zappos doesn't offer discounts IIRC, and the outlets don't honor PCE (PCE is excluded in the fine print on the PCE itself). That means more units being sold at full price and full profit, and higher profit per square foot in outlets. Well played, Coach. Let's see what's next!

Zappos does put older items on sale, much like Macy's or Dillard's. Plus the free usually 1-day shipping is a plus. And the returns are free & easy.

Sale, yes; but they don't do coupon codes like the ones posted on RetailMeNot etc. Sales and discount codes of this type are different IMHO. Apologies if my original statement was unclear.
